Just imho. I thought about this because my mother and I are watching Dumbo tonight. I would go to the circus if it were (wild) animal free and clown free as well. Although it's true that I can't stand clowns, I also can't stand the way that they treat their animals! :mad

How do you know how they treat their animals. We must be careful not to stereotype all based on a few examples. That is what is called prejudice.

These days I have heard of circuses that vow to treat their animals with a lot of love and care amidst all the stories of such cruel treatment to animals within this business. It is sad when animals suffer needlessly.

I'm not saying that all circuses are like this, so please don't misquote me on this, but a great majority of them are. Besides, at least zoos tend to have enclosures for their animals. How would you like to be in a cage, basically it's like being sent to jail for animals that are supposed to run wild and free.

And not to mention the fact that wild animals have been killed simply because they are acting out of pure instinct when it comes to attacking humans, but instead of blaming man's stupidity, guess who winds up getting shot for it in the end? Don't get me wrong, I am not some PETA nutcase, I just wish that people would learn to open their eyes on the real issue here.

I see the issues. There have been many extensive petitions out there telling about how many of these animals are treated and fighting for them to be at least placed in a sanctuary where they will receive better care and veterinary care as well.

Zoo's are a problem in their own..at least a majority. No, it is not right for an animal to be caged their entire life, set apart from their natural habitat. Although, some of them are rescued and rehabilitated, but often cannot safely be placed back in their natural home. There are times it may be better for them to be in a zoo habitat than put back, be too trusting, and then die.

It is one of those sad issues in this world, and God's creatures deserve to be treated with care.

I agree with almost everything you said here but a lot of zoos don't use cages anymore they use enclosures. (natural habitats) My state zoo (The Cleveland Zoo) is the prime example of it. I've been to the National Zoo as well and I really enjoyed it there as well.

I am glad that zoo's are getting better abour these enclosure spaces =)

How do you know that a "great majority" of circuses treat their animals with cruelty?
What is the problem with the majority of zoos?

Enclosures are not necessarily "natural habitats." Many of the animals are not natural in the US at any time. How large are these enclosures? Do they have to hunt for their food as their wild counterparts do? Feeding them is not natural. Caring for them when they are sick is not natural. Protecting the prey animals from becoming dinner to the predators is not natural. There is nothing natural about any zoo.

It's a lot more natural than spending the rest of their lives in a cage or being forced to perform circus stunts.

I'm sorry, but the better question is does it still make it right even if they don't?
Animals born in captivity know no other life and have not learned how to feed and protect themselves from the elements as well as other animals like predators and such. Therefore, releasing them into the wild is in all likelihood a more dangerous and inhumane thing to do than keeping them in captivity.

I won't argue with you on that part, but sadly,.. I'm afraid you have failed to see the point. *sigh* :shame
