{27} "For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS. {28} "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." Matthew 16:27-28 (NASB)

There were some standing there that would not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom. However it was not the disciples He was talking about. He did not say that there were some standing among them or you that would not taste death until He come, but there are some standing here, in Him. That is He was in Union with His whole Body at that time, to include all futre believers in Him, and it was some of those, of His Body, Mystical Body, that would not taste of Death until He comes. Paul states it like this 1 Cor 15:

51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Jesus was stating this the same thing that Paul was stating here..

Nonsense. It was all written for us. It was not all written to us! There's a difference!

You are welcome to make an argument over 'to' and 'for.'

The Words are for us all, that is, in our behalf.

Unless, of course, you believe eating meat offered to idols continues to be a problem in the church today! :screwloose
The Law is spiritual. If you don't understand it that way you'll only see a piece of meat and miss the entire meal.

enjoy!

This one gets todays WHOPPER award, for unrestrained textual torture.

Christian by the measure of whom? I accept the Nicene Creed as a basic measure and agree with every point of same. I also had a 'personal experience' some 30+ years ago that changed my heart on these matters to faith in Christ.
Your username contradicts itself. I was asking which do you choose?
And you obviously don't know your scriptures very well. God did cause confusion at the tower of Babel.
Sad try. Babel's context & purpose was different than what Paul says to Christians. Fresh off the net: If God is not the author of confusion, what about the Tower of Babel? | Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry

Everything that the Apostles wrote is applicable to all believers, inclusive of Peter and James. And if you think Satan has been removed from the equations of sin starting with temptation you would be sorely deceived by same.
I'm so happy I don't know what you're talking about. Sin does not reign over believers. Free will to sin has nothing to do with a real fallen angel called Satan to a Christian. Even the "world" is only impacted by the darkness, which we attribute to an influence theoretically of a demonic being called "Satan"
And you are wrong about the Apostles "generation" & future generations to them. The Apostles didn't even write "the Apostles Creed!"

And again you missed the point of the post entirely and remain looking back on the outside of the cup. Any casual glance at our present world shows the continuing effects of sin, which same is 'of the devil' and the powers briefed in the last post.
Wow, what cup? My cup? Or some half or all empty cup?! My cup runneth over.....!
The devil "influence" only remains anyway. Demons of the mind are mental illnesses. Hearing voices, etc, & attributing them to "evil spirits"
I guess you just like satan enough to keep him alive in the lake of fire probably. Good luck with that! No. I wouldn't enjoy that entertainment!

Oh? Evil disappeared then? No longer exists? lol
lol back. Like whoever said "evil" doesn't exist!
Paul surely said the spiritually mature Christian is trained in discerning good from evil. It has nothing to do with "satan" either!

Your theory is quite impossible, scripturally speaking. All the people of Israel are taught in the O.T. to be Gods children (see Deut. 14:1 and Psalm 82:6 (which Jesus cited to Jews as well.) Paul echoed this same fact in Acts 17:23-29 for all mankind. Many orthodox sects accept these facts. Simple logic dictates that Satan can not be their father.
Scriptually speaking? You need to look from a Biblical perspective, & not a Judaistic one.
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
(John 8:44)

Satan is however the father of other devils who inhabited the minds of those Pharisees and to whom Jesus often addressed, interacted with and cast OUT of people. People and devils are not the same entities nor are/were Jews satan or devils, unless of course you are a raging anti-semite.

enjoy!

s
Uh, see the above passage (& chapter)
And whatever you're saying about inhabiting people's minds- Satan is in the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone,

Deceived who? Right, the Jews after the flesh that came against Jerusalem of the Spirit.
End of story.
Christ won. So did we Christians!

What Hitch said. :clap

By the way, Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin were not "in Him", yet He told them the same thing He told the disciples. How does that fit into your view??? :chin

Sad try. Babel's context & purpose was different than what Paul says to Christians. Fresh off the net: If God is not the author of confusion, what about the Tower of Babel? | Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry

You are certainly welcome to say God is not The Author of confusion, but obviously that broad based scatter does not compute with actual events that transpired in the scriptures. Context never eliminates fact.

The fact is that God DID confuse/confound the languages of the people at the Tower of Babel and scattered them.

Now, you can recognize and acknowledge the facts or ignore them. But to take one side over another in essence pits Gods Words and Actions against each others and is not good methodology for serious studies, imho.

I'm so happy I don't know what you're talking about. Sin does not reign over believers.

Never said it does. That does not mean however that believers are 'sin free' or that activity of sin does not transpire in thought, word or deed. And that activity remains linked to the DEVIL(s.)

The fact also is that many believers blinded to the above will outright deny that working in them, and by doing so they merely show their slaveship to the facts by not being able to be truthful about the matters.

Free will to sin has nothing to do with a real fallen angel called Satan to a Christian. Even the "world" is only impacted by the darkness, which we attribute to an influence theoretically of a demonic being called "Satan"

And again, you are certainly welcome to isolate your mind from the actions of the tempter that is not you as Gods child. I don't find that a credible methodology.

The instant you associate temptation in mind or theft of Word from heart, you are acknowledging simple fact of scripture. If you discount the operations of the tempter within the mind you of course have no one to look to but yourself. I just don't find that credible.

And as it relates to this thread, it is the operations of the dark side of the ledgers that concern judgments. Looking on the outside will remain futile.
And you are wrong about the Apostles "generation" & future generations to them. The Apostles didn't even write "the Apostles Creed!"

Whatever. Many try to raise various standards to determine general agreements. Nothing more than that.

Wow, what cup? My cup? Or some half or all empty cup?! My cup runneth over.....!
The devil "influence" only remains anyway. Demons of the mind are mental illnesses. Hearing voices, etc, & attributing them to "evil spirits"

If your presentation is that no such entities exist other than man you are off base.

I guess you just like satan enough to keep him alive in the lake of fire probably. Good luck with that! No. I wouldn't enjoy that entertainment!

I would suppose that would depend on your views of such entities existing wouldn't it? How would you propose to deal with anti-Christ spirits? Do you even have definitions of same?
lol back. Like whoever said "evil" doesn't exist!

Again you are not following the lines of logic presented.

John the Apostle said we cannot say 'we have no sin.' And if we do the Truth is not in us.

John also connects that sin to the devil.

Do the math or throw away the writer. Your pick.
Paul surely said the spiritually mature Christian is trained in discerning good from evil. It has nothing to do with "satan" either!

Oh really? Paul openly admitted that he had a DEVIL. Go read about it in 2 Cor. 12:7.

Paul also said that the presence of evil was always with him, and that was because of the presence of sin which he termed 'no longer I.' You again are welcome to disassociate sin with the devil. I have not found a credible way to do that and remain loyal to text presentations.
Scriptually speaking? You need to look from a Biblical perspective, & not a Judaistic one.

How we view the Word will obviously vary depending on how much of same you seek to eliminate or eradicate based on your personal assumptions.

I don't discount a single Word or seek to eliminate any Word of God. It's not credible in my opinion to do so. Nor do I try to make a rift between the God of the Old Testament and God in Jesus Christ. They are the same and haven't changed a bit.
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
(John 8:44)

Uh, see the above passage (& chapter)
And whatever you're saying about inhabiting people's minds- Satan is in the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone,

You again are free to eliminate the tempter from temptation. To me that will remain a 'cover up' being produced within you by that same power.
Deceived who? Right, the Jews after the flesh that came against Jerusalem of the Spirit.
End of story.
Christ won. So did we Christians!

Counting sins against mankind is finished. The devil and his messengers have not yet received final judgments.

Bask in your perceived glory all you please. I and most will maintain that the finality of these events for the anti-Christ spirits remain on the event horizon.

enjoy!

It will be the Day of the LORD !

Yes, contrary to many who are deceived, the Second Coming for the Church, That Glorious Appearing will also be the much anticipated " The Day of the LORD". Joel 2:11

And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

It will be a Day of Wrath for His adversaries and a Day of Reward for His Elect, the Saints !

Rev 11:18

18And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

This is the Day of the LORD. That this is Jesus Christ, lets look from 1 Thess 4:13-1 Thess 5:11 which is one context without a break, He [ Jesus Christ] is spoken of as the Lord seven times, a Perfect number.

13But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5
1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

So why is this not the Day of the Lord ?

So why is this not the Day of the Lord ?

See, if you don't see this as a spiritual reality then explain if the Lord will descend from heaven with a shout or will He come as a thief in the night?

It's not both, that's why it was not meant to be literal.

The day of the Lord in Israel's "end times" was fulfilled.

It is a spiritual reality.

And for smaller: See Matt.16:23 (get behind me satan) & tell us if He meant Peter to be satan too! And Paul's "thorn" was from the adversary which were the Judaizers. Satan is used figuratively in Scripture to represent an adversary to the things of God. Christ destroyed Satan incarnate.

Now is the time to repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand! Make your peace calling and election assured! There is no excuse to reject Christ!

REPENT!

THESE ARE THE LAST DAYS! CHRIST IS COMING! BE PREPARED! BE PREPARED!

OH YE VILE SINNERS, REPENT OR PERISH!

CHRIST DIED FOR THE UNGODLY, HE BORE YOUR SINS ON CALVARY'S CROSS!

REPENT! OR BE CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE FOR ETERNITY!

BELIEVE ON CHRIST AND LIVE! DENY HIM AND FACE ETERNAL TORMENT!

Greetings!

Yep! That's probably going to be a sad and a glorious day, though.

That's what Peter said to the Christians almost 2k years ago. The scoffers (Judaizers) were saying that since the fathers fell asleep (ie:Abraham, Isaac, Jacob) all things were still the same (no resurrection of the dead promise ) so they scoffed at Peter saying it still was DECADES since the promise of His coming- but Peter tells Christians, that they willfully forget that with God a thousand years is like a day & a day a thousand years.....So REPENT bc He was not slack as SOME count slackness.

Jesus kept His promise & the apostles knew what signs to look for. For the Holy Spirit lead them to what would happen, for Peter said, "the end of all things is at hand." (1Pet.4:7) This was the end of the old covenant age.
The new heaven & earth, where righteousness dwells, was about to come.
This is the "age to come" that we today are in.

Just as Jesus promised. Just as Jesus said that world or age to come would come.

According to the Holy Writ, futurism is untrue. Christ & the apostles prove it wrong.

Back to the General Resurrection !

When Christ returns there will be a General Resurrection of all Dead, both of the Elect and Non Elect. The scenario will probably be first, all who died in Faith, Believers in Christ, both OT and NT, these first shall be raised from their graves, and the believers that are alive and remain shall be changed and meet the Lord in the Air with the rest of the previous raised Saints. At this Time all the Saints shall receive Glorified Bodies, another fruit and effect of Christ Work of the Cross. I would like to suggest that after the Righteous are raised and the living Righteous are caught up, then the wicked also shall be raised, to prepare for Judgment, they will not be caught up to meet the Lord in the Air.

After all the Saints have been gathered together and have met the Lord in the Air, then they all Shall continue the descent to the Earth to Establish His Kingdom and Glory and to begin Judgment 2 Tim 4:1

1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

This corresponds with Matt 25:31-34

31When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Then we all [ Elect and Non Elect] shall be according to what was done in the Body.

2 Cor 5:10

10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Rev 20:12-13

12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Rev 11:18

18And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Judgment Day, the Third Woe for Mankind !

The Apostle John through the Spirit of Christ tells us about a Third Woe coming upon Mankind, it is Judgment Day Rev 11:14-19

14The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.

15And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

16And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,

17Saying, We give thee thanks, O LORD God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

18And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

19And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

The Day is swiftly coming, an appointed day by God's own counsel whereby He is going to Judge the World by that Man Christ Jesus Acts 17:31

31Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

This word appointed is the greek word histēmi:

fixed, set ,establish

He has fixed a day to do this, and this will be the Last day of this present age, when Christ shall return.

The Last Day John 12:48

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Everyone is going to be Judged by the rule of exact Righteousness and Justice, God's Holy Law will be the Perfect Standard and His Gospel, all of men's deeds, words, and thoughts will be Judged in that Day !

1 Cor 4:5

Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

In this Day all will receive of the Lord what is due them according to what is recorded in the books ! Rev 20:11-12

11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

12And I saw the dead[Rev 11:18], small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

This is called the Third Woe, following the First and Second Woe !

Who was Jesus speaking to in Matt 24 ?

In Matt 24 when the Lord Jesus Christ was speaking to His disciples regarding His Second Coming, who was He speaking to ? Was it ethnic jews or was it His Church ? It was His Church whom at that present time happened to be ethnic jews, but they were His Church, at least a portion of it, they belonged to that which Jesus said He was going to build Matt 16:18

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

When the Lord spoke to them in Matt 24 regarding their inquiry Matt 24:3

3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Jesus responded to His Church corporately when He responded to them. He did not respond to men as ethnic jews, though they were, but as the blood bought and redeemed Church.

It was corporately He spoke to them as the Church here Jn 14:2-3

2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

I believe this is speaking to them of His Second Coming when He will come and receive to Himself all of the Corporate Church 1 Thess 4:15-17

This describes the receiving to Himself of Jn 14:3.Now who is being written to in 1 Thess 4, ethnic jews or the Church ? Its the Church and Paul identifies himself [a saved ethnic jew] with the Church He was writing to when He says " The WE which are alive and remain at the Coming of the Lord" !

The WE here is not ethnic jews, but the Church, comprised of both ethnic jewish believers and gentile believers.

The disciples of Matt 24 were part of an whole Corporate entity as is seen from Jesus words from Jn 17:20-21

20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

That all who may be One ? Why all those whom those ethnic jews [The Disciples whom He was speaking in front of] and the ones that should believe on Him through their word up until the consummation of the age Matt 28:20

20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

But notice, Jesus said that they may be ONE ! That is One Church, One corporate entity, One Body !

So who was Jesus speaking to in Matt 24 beginning with verse 4ff ? It was His Church, which just happened to be ethnic jews at the time. There is no race divisions in Christ corporately, that was done away with by His Cross, making One New Man Eph 2:14-16

14For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

15Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

16And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

To teach any different and make race or ethnicity a factor is to become an enemy of the Cross.. Phil 3:18

(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

SBG,
I have to say that I disagree with you on John 14. So does Matthew Henry.

And note Wesley's notes on Jhn 14 even skips vs.3 (see the sidebar) Oh yes, I already know what "Darby's" interpretation will probably be, so I say DON'T note that!! :biggrin

Notice how M.H. doesn't say anything about Jesus coming again, literally?

That is bc the Spirit is the guarantee that He will receive us.
