Actually when I visited Israel I never worried a lick about security or crime. Too many soldiers and police.
The taxicab drivers might rob you with exhorbitant fees...and the tourist shops might charge outrageous prices...but other than that it was really secure.

Did the locals who deny Jesus show you where Jesus raised from the dead, and his tomb, and where John baptised?.

See this cave?, Jeusus raised from the dead here, that's a G flat.

Where Jesus and John the Baptist got together is run by a kibbutz. Various denominations of pastors are available to baptize (for various fees) and changing rooms and robes (again for fees) . Functional nudity isn't out of the norm in Israel...so changing in public isn't a real problem. People were doing just that.

The tomb where they put Jesus' body has a cathedral around it...so old it's falling apart. They were in the middle of restoring it.

The line to look in the Tomb was really long. We didn't bother...we knew Jesus wasn't there. We just wanted to look at the church of the sepluchar. It was facinating to see all the ornate casework from rare woods and stone.

Sometimes I get referred to as a racist because I like boarder security and national security, especially bio security, you see im not a fan of spreading pest and disease. So I decided I would investigate to see if I am a racist and see who my friends are who I acturally talk to as friends and where they are from.

I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to all that stuff. My opinion is I doubt anyone knows the spot where John and Jesus met together, or where Jesus tomb is. And some other things. Jerusalem was completely levelled in 70ad so anything there is underground.

These sites both have biblical direction as to locations. As well as when Constantine came through the sites were still recognized by the locals as to what and why.
The biggest discrepancy is in the crucifixion site. It currently is a bus station. The rock formations and natural crossroads make it unmistakable as to why it was called "the place of the skull." But bus stations are needed. And the bus station was considered more important than a "Christian archeological" site by a mostly Jewish population. There's nothing at the other locations that agree with scriptures either.

The "secondary" site for Jesus' baptism just doesn't match scriptures. But of course there's a tourist trap there too. (Palestinian run)

The tomb has had no rival.

The rock surrounding the hill has been chipped away as souvenirs for centuries now. Constantine built a church over the top of the tomb to preserve the site. (As many locations have had a church built over them to preserve them)

I stayed out of Bethlehem...it's in the Palestinian territories. Where it's fine to visit. I simply didn't want to go and fight with overpriced taxis, crowds, and heat to do so.

What is the point of restoring it when no one is there.
The cathedral is beautiful. Very artistic and attractive woodworking, metal, and stone. It's also historical.
The cathedral also protects the site from fighting and munitions. Neither side will target churches. And that is how they have preserved the different historical sites. The train station...not at all. It may be a mall now but there are bullet holes and posters detailing the battles.

I think there is alot of idolatry in general. I mean, everyone to there own but for me Jesus tomb doesn't mean anything significant. Like you said the line was long so you didn't bother waiting because you knew he wasn't there. Exactly.

The word of God is not material places. Even the Bible says a new heaven and earth and a new Jerusalem and the kingdom of God is within you and you are the temple, yet many love the world.

But,
Unlike the book of Mormon there is archeological evidence that the Bible is factual. (As well as geological and other evidence)

And the preservation of these places is good.
