The Lord said, these words are Spirit and they are life. There's definitely more to taking communion than meets the eye. It's a spiritual thing and something happens to the bread & wine in the spiritual realm that we dont get to see. It has to happen though and is very likely part of the sanctification process, as well as a reverant rememberance of what exactly He did for us.

I think it sounds weird to some because it sounds cannibalistic but we have to remember that everything on earth is a cheap imitation of something spiritual (on a fallen earth) so we just dont understand the entire ramifications of its purpose and full meaning...we just do it because He said to.
:agreed:amen

I stated ok to Jim then explained why I don't take John 6 literally to mean eating and drinking. To me the last supper was Jesus with His disciples having what we call communion. He drank of the fruit of the vine.
The actual literal Hebrew for wine is "blood of the grape" .

And I understand that you don't take it literally... because you ate matza and drank grape juice...you know you did. But you internalize the life and sacrifice of Jesus...

So do Jim and Ezra...but just in a slightly different manner with a bit different faith. I can't say that either side is right or wrong here...both sides of the theology are very dedicated to the Messiah (in case you couldn't tell)

Your position isn't uncommon...
Ordinances are important...I think I hear you saying that as well...
Like group prayers...lesson out of the first word of The Lord's Prayer. We shouldn't do it alone all the time.

These guys are ones that believe Jesus is God and whatever He says (no matter what) is true. Even if it's what you perceive as a metaphor. But their dedication is the same as yours at a minimum... maybe more.

Hermeneutics is a blend of Art and Science... Theirs is just a tad different.

I find it oddly unique that something which was instituted to unite us, is actually something that has been used to divide us.

In Corinthians, within community we are told to examine ourselves and we are warned that anyone who takes it in the wrong manner are subject to judgment.

Paul also talks about eating meat offered to idols... it's a matter of concience.

In short, who are we to judge another who partakes in communion with a clean concience?

I don’t see John 6 as communion. It’s Jesus telling that people He came down from heaven and those that come to him shall never be hungry and those that believe in Him shall never be thirsty. Or unless they ate of his flesh or drank his blood they have no life.
I do see the last supper Jesus had with His disciples as communion. And that service did not have a salvific purpose. Do this in remeberence of me or as Paul stated proclaims the lords death.
We will have to agree to disagree on actual blood and flesh. I have had communion.

Ever been to a Jewish Seder?
They have them for us Goyem.

The relevance to what Jesus was saying is more profound.

I have the Spirit of Christ in me. He and I are one. that’s what I know.
And Randy, John, Ezra and Jim also have that same spirit in them. United, we make up the Body of Christ. Each of us are as unique as the various churches of Christ in Paul's ministry, as well as those in Jerusalem.

One thing we can take away from John 6 is simply this. Jesus is going to say some things that befuddle us, and that's ok. We dont need to understand all of it right away and other things we will understand differently than others. What we need to know, is that Jesus holds eternal life, and what it comes down to in those times is we have nowhere else to go, except stand on his promise that he will never leave or forsake us.

I did answer your questions.
No. You did not.
And you answered mine "you didn't notice it".
I didn't say that I "didn't notice it."
That's not compelling to me.
I wouldn't expect it to be.
If you drank actual blood and ate actual flesh how can you not notice it?

OK Randy. You don't want to accept anything that doesn't support your personal opinion. You do not appear to be considering anything that any says.
Trying to have a conversation with you if you are going to ignore anything I post.

You have a nice day.

When He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.

“But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

this is religion at its best

Old habits;

Jesus responded and said to them, “Do not be grumbling with one another.

Some people need a sign in order to believe what Jesus said;

So they said to Him, “What then do You do as a sign, in order that we may see it and believe You? What thing do you work? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it has been written [in Ps 78:24]: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat’”.
John 6:30-31 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John 6:30-31&version=DLNT

Some people just take Him at His word:

For the bread of God is the One coming down from heaven and giving life to the world”.
John 6:33 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John 6:33&version=DLNT

Bread of God = the One coming down from heaven and giving life to the world.
