We are warned in 1 Timothy 4:1 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;” Also in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”

The falling away from the faith above mentioned by Paul has to do with the saints of God being overcome by all the lies and deception of the Devil by way of his spirit, which is the spirit of a lie. This spirit of a lie is also shown as the false prophet spirit which works in many deceivers. As many false prophets and teachers were foretold to come into the world like a swarm of locusts from hell and darken the Light of the Truth in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I believe Paul was playing off the words of Jesus when he referred to “that man” and “son of perdition” in the above verse. But this is not to be misunderstood as a being single individual man yet to come in the future like Judas, but rather it speaks of the sin nature of man (mystery of iniquity) being raised back up again in the world and embraced. These seducing spirits and doctrines of devils would enter into the man-made church system, thereby causing many to play the Harlot with the ways of the world, and thereby making them desolate of good works and naked by sin.

Notice how Jesus refers to a whole wicked generation as “a man” and “ that man” (like Paul said) here in Matthew 12:43-45 “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”

Now notice the wording Jesus used showing the “last state of that man” referring to a whole wicked generation compared to Peters concerning this same falling away in 2 Peter 2:20-22 “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.”

Many of the saints being overcome is also shown here in Revelation 13:7 “And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.” So this spirit of deception and lies would also overcome many of the saints as is also confirmed here in Daniel 7:21 “I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;” That horn is the tail of the red Dragon, which speaks of the spirit of a lie working in all the false prophets of the world. This spirit of a lie was foretold to practice and prosper in the world and also cast the truth and also some of the host of heaven to the ground.

True saints can not be overcome with lies and deception. For one thing they would not want to be deceived and choose to do everything according to the will of God.
1Samuel 2:9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
Psalms 37:28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
Psalms 97:10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

There is a need for every believer to overcome our adversary.

Scripture can be very murky to some on this subject. For examples, we are not to love our own lives:

Revelation 12:11
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Luke 14:26
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

There are Spiritual reasons for the above that apply personally to us.

For example, in order to be "in Truth" we can not say we have no sin. 1 John 1:8. We also know that sin is of the devil. 1 John 3:8. We know that sin dwells in our own flesh, and that evil is present with us. Romans 7:17-21. We know that our own flesh is contrary to and against the Spirit and the Spirit is likewise against the flesh and contrary to OUR flesh. Gal. 5:17.

These are simple facts of the N.T. openly exposed to us. But the flesh will not and can not take on these facts of scripture. It will instead LIE to us. And lies of these sorts are from our "internal adversary" the devil.

No believer locked up in the deception of their own flesh can even speak of these truths and apply them personally. They simply can not do it. And in that they have not overcome "in honesty" but are in a form of what I might call a "temporary deception" of the flesh. I would not say any such who can not own up and fess up to scriptural reality are lost.

But we should perceive that the battle ground between the Spirit and our adversary, the devil, does take place right where we are standing, in our own flesh. That's WHY it's contrary and why we have the need to overcome our adversary and hate our flesh life. We are not born instantly in our entirety into Gods Kingdom. We still have the flesh. We still have the battles. But the flesh WILL deceive us in these matters-> because it is under the influences of our adversary, the devil.

The son of perdition was not Judas, but Satan who had entered into Judas. This is why Paul brings this 'son of perdition' again into view in the N.T.

The revealing of this son of perdition is happening right now, before your eyes in this post. Yet the flesh will not and can not see it, regardless.

Some however will see and are meant to see. It is God Alone that makes us see all things. And He also proposes MANY to remain blind to the obvious. Romans 11:8.

There is no faster form of humble pie and self abasement than to realize that in our own flesh our adversary is fighting us.

2 Corinthians 12:7
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

IF we think God in Christ is the ally of the WHOLE PACKAGE above, we are sadly sadly mistaken. We know and understand the very real TERROR and FEAR of the Lord, precisely because of our circumstances of our own flesh and the presence of temptation/the tempter. God does not see "just us" in this equation. God also sees the enemy that He Himself created. This sight is meant to bring us into HONESTY and HUMBLENESS, Divine Traits.

I happen to know this terror and fear intimately. It's not something I would wish on anyone, but it is exceptionally REAL.

Yes I believe the "elect" or the "chosen" of God will not be deceived, but remember many are called but few are chosen=elect.

Matthew 24:24
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

That is why we must be born again of the Spirit and put to death the old man of sin and the deeds of the flesh=sin

Romans 8:9
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
But like I said yesterday, this is a topic for another day. This thread is about the falling away from the faith and the man of sin being revealed.

I think we can put aside any qualms if we are honest about our present planting conditions, that God Himself has planted us into.

We know for example that we are sown in weakness, corruption and dishonor in a natural body. This Is Gods Own Work with us in our current state. 1 Cor. 15:42-47.

Yes, there will come a time for each of us, as we depart from this "vile body" (Phil. 3:21) when these conditions will be put off.

But there is little use in claiming that we do that in this present life in the present plantings.

I think your sights are spot on, that is, until it comes to the reality that our Maker has planted us in. I prefer to see the reality of the now. And anticipate in HOPE of what is to come. Nothing personal. I still think you're saved and have, seriously, a fantastic view of the other side of the coin, except when it hits home upon our own flesh.

I don't care much for delusions about my flesh.

So was Paul talking about a single man in 2 Thess. or a single evil spirit and also other seducing spirits working in a whole wicked generation like Jesus said? Well if you read the whole chapter in 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12 you will see this truth shown…“And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

Clearly Paul was talking about more than one single individual man in the above verses using words like them , they, and they all.

But what about the term “son of perdition?” It speaks of the same thing, as was first shown in Judas (one who broke bread at the Lords table) who also sold out the Truth for a pocket full of silver, just as the firstborn Esau sold his birth right for some red pottage.(sin) Look at what Peter had to say about the “son of perdition.”

Peter goes on to quote scripture concerning Judas, (son of perdition) in the Psalms Acts 1:20 “For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.” Now, in order to confirm my point about there being more than one “son of perdition” or son who goes into destruction, let’s look at the Psalms from where Peter was drawing this from.

In Psalm 69 we see this same language used in verse Psalm 69:25 “Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.” Notice the Psalm says “their” as in more than one. As a matter of fact, if you read the whole Psalm the Lord is speaking of many, like in verse 4 the Lord says “they that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head”. The Lord repeatedly uses the words “they their, and them”, in the Psalm just as Paul also used the same language in 2 Thess 2:10-12 describing the man of sin, (lawlessness) and son of perdition.

Now let’s confirm the same message in another Psalm which speaks of what Peter quoted also in Psalm 109:8 “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” Now that sounds more like what Peter was quoting from when he said in Acts 1:20 “Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take” Which this does speak specifically about the single man Judas. (Which has already been fulfilled as Jesus noted in John 17:12.)

But let’s now look at that Psalm in the greater context of what is being said.

Psalm 109:1-13
Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.”

So though him was referring to the single man Judas in this Psalm, as both Jesus and Peter confirmed, I believe it is very clear that Paul was not talking about a single man yet to come, but rather a whole wicked generation who would fall away from following after the Truth in Christ, and also go into destruction.

The generation, singular tense, speaks to the generation of the devil and his messengers. They have been on earth, his family growing in seed numbers, unseen, from the start of Gods Exercises upon the earth.

In the end it is "that" generation that will taste Gods Final Wrath and Divine Destruction.

Scripture refers to their generation as "time." The "time" singular.

With men, we have generations plural and times, plural.

When we see the phrase, time, times and the 1/2 or dividing of time, it is speaking of what will happen in Matt. 25's parable, where DEVILS and their unseen nations are "separated" "halved" or "divided" from the flesh of MAN.

In the meantime the goats and the sheep are in the same fold of the flesh, individually and collectively.

Matthew 23:33
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers
, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

It's not the body of man that is evil, even though this fleshy body has a death sentence and is determined to die and be put off. But it is rather the heart of man that is evil by the spirit that entered into mankind and into the world by sin. Jesus came to set us free from this evil spirit and to also set us free from the bondage of sin and death.

All these things I can prove by scripture, but I am not going to do so in this particular thread. So please try to stay on topic.

There are 2 separate seeds, the serpents seed and the womans seed by promise...the first is flesh=corrutable seed. The second is Spirit=incorruptable.

It's not the body of man that is evil,

Never said it was. It is however a temporal image, flawed as that image is. But the flesh itself is not evil. Evil has to be an adverse spiritual agent/working. It is NOT forensically proven or empirically defined by science. Not possible. But it is real, nevertheless, as both scripture and reality shows us.

We do not wrestle flesh and blood, but we DO wrestle with our unseen adversary, the devil. Eph. 6:11-12

Christians have a real easy time painting all the "other people" as the bad guys or can even talk about the devil. But when it comes to pinpoint the battle, the wrestling match being in our own flesh, the flesh will BUCKLE and REVOLT at that disclosure every single time. And that is because it IS the location of our adversary. The adversary can not TELL THE TRUTH. It is forbidden territory for the adversary to speak this fact.

Eventually, yes. But we are not in that state currently in our entirety. We DO HAVE a vile body. And this body is against the Spirit and contrary to the Spirit. And it IS so because of indwelling sin (which SIN is of the devil) and evil present IN IT, which is also of the devil, our adversary.

God placed us in this condition in order for HONESTY to spring up from this condition. Not to lie about it and in the process, be defeated by a lie or hypocrisy or what have you.
All these things I can prove by scripture, but I am not going to do so in this particular thread. So please try to stay on topic.

Being a sinner, saved by Grace is not some new discovery in the world of theology. But some seem to have a hard time swallowing the reality of it, their sin, being of the devil.

The man of Luke 18, justified by God by Gods granting that man honesty whereby God Justified him, was this statement of fact:

God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

God justifies such, and condemns the adversary, simultaneously.

It's never just a one sided transaction. Just as Paul was saved, justified, and the messenger of Satan in his flesh, condemned. Both eternal life and eternal damnation walked in the same shoes.

Again, a discussion for another day. :)

We are shown in scripture when this flood of lies and persecution against the saints began.

Here is some confirmation of when the war on the saints started, who have the testimony of Jesus Christ. This started right after the man child Jesus was caught up to heaven, and the woman (spiritual Israel/Jerusalem) fled into the wilderness.

Revelation 12:15 “And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.”

Revelation 12:17 “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 13:7“And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.”

Again same war with the 2 witnesses…

Revelation 11:7 “And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.”

So you a host given to the Prince of this world to make war against the saints by reason of transgression, and there is also a war against the Truth, as God’s Word is Truth…

Daniel 8:12 “And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.” =lies would prosper for a time.”

The "it" in the above is the spirit of a lie aka "little horn" and "tail" of the Red Dragon.

And again, this spiritual flood and war is not fought with carnal weapons....

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

James 4:1 “From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?”

1 Peter 2:11 “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

Romans 7:23 “But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.”

Fight the good fight! :)

This spiritual flood of lies by way of many deceivers was first shown in a natural way by the flood in the days of Noah, which was meant to destroy "all flesh." Or in a spiritual sense, it would be all those who are of the flesh and serve the lusts of the flesh, and those who are not sealed with God's Spirit in the forehead.

The spiritual flood was prophesied here in Daniel 9:26 “And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.”

The flood waters in the days of Noah prevailed upon the earth for 5 months, Genesis 7:24 "And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days." Which is also spiritually signified in the flood of seducing spirits coming up out of the bottomless pit, with their flood of false doctrine prevailing on the earth for the same amount of time as shown here in Revelation 9:5 "And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man."

This is like waves of death being ministered by a flood of ungodly men...
2 Samuel 22:5 "When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;"

But the Lord has a solution to counter the flood from the enemy..

Isaiah 59:19 “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”

2 Thessalonians 2:8 "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Matthew 24:27 “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

And just as the flood in the days of Noah was sent as judgment upon a wicked world as part of God's wrath...

Isaiah 54:7-9; “
For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.”

Notice who Jesus says will endure the flood and winds (winds of doctrine) and times of trouble, and why they do not fall verses why those whose houses fell.

Matthew 7:22-27 "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

So those who were just hearers only, and not doers would suffer the fall. Just as those who have root in times of temptation are also shown as falling away.

Luke 8:13
They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

We read in 2 Thessalonians 2:4 “Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”

Paul here is talking about the man of sin being revealed, the son who will go into destruction, who has “that Wicked spirit working in him. Many believe this to be a single evil man figure is yet to come, but Paul clearly mentions this spirit working in many, and it “the mystery of iniquity already working”

2 Thessalonians 2:1-12
“ Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness"

Again note, in them, they, them, they all is speaking about more than one man. (but many)

But what about sitting in the Temple of God? I believe Paul was speaking in a mystery when he said this, as he was also playing off of other parts of scripture in order to do this. In Ezekiel 28:2 “Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord God; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:”

The Lord later goes on to say to this man in verse 13 “ Thou hast been in the garden of God;” Now we know the Prince of Tyrus was not in the garden of God, but man (Adam) was. But the Lord later goes on to call this man the “covering cherub.” So the message here is twofold.

The Lord is not just speaking to the prince of Tyrus alone, but to the spirit of “that Wicked” which entered into man (Adam) when sin entered into man. (man of sin)

So when you understand the spirit and the sin nature of the devil is working in the heart of man, then we can begin to see what Paul was saying about this “man of sinsitting in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God”.

Paul also gave us clue to confirm this message in 1 Corinthians 6:19 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

So our bodies are that temple God
created for Himself to dwell in by His Spirit, but “that Wicked” spirit entered in, when sin entered in man= “man of sin

And Paul goes on to say in 1 Corinthians 3:17 “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”

So whosoever has “that Wicked” spirit dwelling in them, (the temple of God) him shall God also destroy. = son of perdition, or son who goes into destruction.

Many think that because one is saved they are of the elect, which is not true...

That is very true my friend. The Elect, according to....
Ephesians 1:3 "Blessed be the Elohim and Father of our Master Yahshua the Messiah, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in the Messiah:
1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Yahshua the Messiah to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,"

Certainly, anyone who calls themselves Christian, should have a lifestyle that is without blame before the Christ of YHWH who has redeemed them.
