I would like to begin a Bible study on the Glory of the Lord. How is the glory of the Lord described in the scriptures, both in the old testament and the new? Let’s look at and examine what the scriptures have to say about the Glory of the Lord and discuss.

In Corinthians the Paul talks of the glory of the celestial and the glory of the terrestrial. In the old testament we find examples of when the Glory of the Lord appeared. In the new testament it is written that Christ shall return in the Glory of the Father. What shall that look like?

Matthew 16:27
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

Please join me in a study of the scriptures to find out what is revealed concerning the Glory of the Lord.

And the Glory of the Lord appeared…………

Before we begin I would like to remind everyone what the scripture says to those who would listen for the Lord’s instruction, for his voice is not found in the strong rain, nor is it heard in the mighty wind. But the Lord is heard in the still small voice, as the dew upon the tender herb.

1 Kings 19:9-12
And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Deuteronomy 32:1-3
Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak;
and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
My doctrine shall drop as the rain,
my speech shall distil as the dew,
as the small rain upon the tender herb,
and as the showers upon the grass:
Because I will publish the name of the Lord:
ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

Like Adam in the garden before his fall, when he used to talk with the Lord in the cool of the morning (Gen 3:8), when the dew lays upon the tender herb.

But what of those who labor in the field, what of the servants? How shall they understand doctrine? For those who labor in the field do not do so until the morning dew has been burned off by the heat of the day.

Exodus 16:4
Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

Exodus 16:7
And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the Lord; for that he heareth your murmurings against the Lord: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

Exodus 16:11-15
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God. And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat.

FIRE………

Exodus 24:17
And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.

Deuteronomy 4:24
For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

Hebrews 12:29
For our God is a consuming fire.

The sight of the Glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire. The scripture also says that our Lord is a consuming fire. The Lord appeared to Moses in a burning bush. If we are patient as we move through the scriptures, then it should become clear how the scripture describe the Glory of the Lord as a consuming fire, as a cloud and a tempest, and as a lake.

can we just use one word that describes his Glory . when i think of his glory terms like greatness his presence in the anointing .his Holiness something that an not be contained

this is what john piper had to say : Defining the glory of God is impossible, I say, because it is more like the word beauty than the word basketball. So if somebody says they have never heard of a basketball, they don’t know what a basketball is and they say: Define a basketball. That would not be hard for you to do. i dont agree with much a of piper doctrine on salvation ..but i have read some good things he has wrote.. so just doing a google search i found it.. kind of agree with it (the paragraph }might i add imo its much more to be experienced

Isiah 6
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

5 how Isiah felt after he experienced his Glory Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. the entire chapter is good.. yes we should feel we are undone of unclean lips.. we are selves can not even begin to be worthy of us his Glory ..but its only by His Grace we are:amen

Thank you for those scripture references. They are tagged so we can read the referenced text. But if anyone wanted to discuss any of them in more detail, they are more than welcome to post the entire scripture reference and discuss. You certainly provided a lot of reference material.

While they all tie in with this topic, what interests me most at this moment are they ones you listed under the heading "Shekinah glory of the Lord As indicative of Gods presence." In the OP I cited Matthew 16:27 where the Son of Man shall appear in the Glory of His Father. This passage also indicates that we shall be judged according to our works.

If we are to be judged according to our works, could our works then be seen as an offering to the Lord? With your knowledge of the old testament writings, when the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle, how was that offering to the Lord received?

The Glory of the adon (Master Lord). What a great thread you have posted Mr. Rider. One of the great displays of Yahweh's Glory is found in the Tora (YHWH's loving instructions to keep us from the snares of the devil)....

Exodus 34:29 "And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.
34:30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.
34:31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
34:32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that Yahweh had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
34:33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.
34:34 But when Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
34:35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him."

The Glory of YHWH must always be hidden from man in this age before the Kingdom, with a vail. (vial)

Thank you Chopper. This is something I wanted to touch on. Moses saw the burning bush on the mountainside, and said I must turn aside and see this thing for himself. When Moses was on the mountain for 40 days in the presence of the Glory of the Lord, his face shown with the glory, and he had to put a vail (veil) over his face. I would point out though that the glory that Moses bore at the time was a reflective glory; it was the Glory of the Lord burned into his skin. But there is something to keep in mind, When he appears in His Glory, and we are changed into the same, then how shall the Glory of the son's appear in that day. (In son's, I am thinking of the Romans 8:19 and the manifestation of the sons of God).

Chopper, being that you are a student of the old testament, would you kindly share how the Glory of the Lord showed Himself at the dedication of Solomon's temple?

I've mentioned two of the dreams I've had .. I don't think and wonder if I could have survived the second one if I hadn't had this first one the night before .. I was on my hands and knees face down on the floor in what seemed a huge palace or temple .. I never looked up,never tried or thought to, but the presence of the Lord was in that place possibly seated on his throne, he was close .. There was a radiance filled the place and waves of radiance penetrating through my whole being and I was so satisfied and content I remember thinking ''I could stay right here for 10,000 yrs without moving a muscle'' just basking in his presence, his radiance, his power, his glory and I ain't even joking. I woke up the next morning and the Holy Spirit was all over me and fresh throughout the day ..

Our works are an offering unto God as they are not our works, but the continued works of the Lord that brings glory and honor to His name. Matthew 25:34-40.

I would say the offering would have been Moses building the tabernacle unto the Lord as the Lord came and filled it with His glory as He was well pleased with Moses. In a sense it's the same with all our works as we build the tabernacle of the Lord, which are those who will turn back to His grace as they see the glory of the Lord shine through us as we are His glory here on earth in whom He is well pleased.

The Glory of YHWH must always be hidden from man in this age before the Kingdom, with a vail. (vial)

I would agree to an extent, in this age the Glory of the Lord is hidden from man. But while His Glory is hidden from the world, it is not hidden from His Son's. Moses put a vail over his face, but Jesus revealed the Glory of the Lord hidden behind the vail of His flesh.

2 Corinthians 3:7-11
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

The flesh is now the veil that hides the glory of the Lord.

Hebrews 10:20
By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

but yet in all this scripture what his Glory is has yet to be revealed .

2 Corinthians 3:12-18
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Romans 1:16-23
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

but yet in all this scripture what his Glory is has yet to be revealed .

Gods glory is revealed in His grace that even though it repented God that He created man there was only one who found grace in the eyes of God, Genesis 6:6-8. Gods glory (grace) has been revealed in all generations that will turn back to Him, 2 Chronicles 7:14.

It is this same glory (grace) revealed through His Son Christ Jesus that He would lay down His own life that others will have eternal life by that grace of God by faith in Christ as it is by Gods grace we are saved. Ephesians 2:8.

see this is what Bible study is about divine Revelation of scripture .proverbs 29:18 where there is no vision "revelation " the people perish .yes i have experienced his Glory

Lotta great verses in there, 371 by one count, mentioning " glory "

I like Proverbs 25:2

" It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter "

since this is Bible study when we say we have experienced his Glory and i still like what john piper had to say : Defining the glory of God is impossible, I say, because it is more like the word beauty than the word basketball. So if somebody says they have never heard of a basketball, they don’t know what a basketball is and they say: Define a basketball. That would not be hard for you to do . for me his glory would be the presence the anointing of HIS spirit . in our association they held a church service and several of the men of OLD seen a like fog in the room.. Glory is such a Big word much like his Holiness got questions defines it The glory of God is the beauty of His spirit.
Psalm 19:1–4 (ESV)
1 The heavens declare the glory of God,

and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

2 Day to day pours out speech,

and night to night reveals knowledge.

3 There is no speech, nor are there words,

whose voice is not heard.

4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,

and …

then we have
The Shekinah God's presence in the pillar of cloud and fire,
it has no real ending of definition :amen lol probably not

agreed this is just a partial

I too have had that experience of Gods glory and it is a place one never wants to leave and I actually begged to stay there, but God told me He had works for me to do as it was not yet my time.

My experience wasn't a dream, but came to me while being in the Spirit as I cried out to God that day, but yet even the beauty of the light that engulfed me and the warmth of the comfort I was receiving at that time, it still could not explain the total glory of the Lord as in His Shekinah glory as none will know that until the day we are before Him in the New Jerusalem. We can compare or liken it, but could never fathom it.
