Israel brushes aside God's grace for God's Law. (Exodus 19:1-4) notices verses (Ex. 19:3-4) as He reminds Israel of His grace. God, by His grace rescues Israel through their cries (Ex. 2:23-25; 3:9-10). If you are a born again believer or Bible scholar you know the history of the Exodus of Israel, out of their oppression under Egypt. All one had to do was believe or have faith in God (Exodus 11:1-13:16).

But when God tells Israel in the wilderness of what He expects out of His chosen (Exodus 19:5-7) (after reminding them of His power and Grace (Exodus 19:3-4), instead, Israel tells God, they will, (or can) do what ever He wants! (Exodus 19:7-8) (Romans 9:30-32). It is God's Law.....for God is the Law manifested. It is the eternal law of God's kingdom. For He has set His throne in the Heavens and His Kingdom ruleith over all. Moses was the administrator of the Law of God. (Starting with Exodus Chapter 20). It is God's law, Moses was the administrator of the Law (The law of Moses). It is an eternal law. The real purpose of the Law was to show Israel that they needed God, thus the Law of Feast days and Sacrifices. The Law stands today as it did when God established the Law before man. But because the Law condemns man, we are no longer under it's penalty of death, but under the grace of God in Jesus Christ by faith, to those who believe in God's mercy. The Law condemns / God saves.

Hi Doug

Hope you had a great new year.

I think this topic deserves our attention as we see the commandments being a vital part of the New Testament Christian lifestyle.

i believe this is a much misunderstood subject and clarity is needed to convey the clear but vital balance between grace and the commandments.

There is language in the New Testament that, from what I have seen, has been largely misunderstood and ignored in favor of more popular beliefs that the 10 Commandments have been abolished.

The Commandments of God are eternal.

The way the commandments were kept, and how the sacrifices for atonement as ascertained and made as well as food laws, Priesthood requirements, tabernacle and temple furnishings, feast days, ceremonial washings, and clothing requirements as well as pilgrimage to Jerusalem during the year, were all part of the law of Moses.

The law of Moses, with its commandments contained in ordinances, was added to the existing Abrahamic Covenant until the Seed should come.

What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.
Galatians 3:19

The law was added til the Seed should come.

The law of Moses, as the way we go about serving the Lord and keeping His commandments and being forgiving if we transgress them has been abolished in His flesh, having been nailed to the cross, it has vanished away, because it was obsolete and has given way to the New Covenant whose Mediator is Christ.

This does not mean the 10 commandments has somehow gone away.

Now through the power of His life within us, we can walk according to the Spirit in which we fulfill the righteous requirement of the law.

that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:4

There is only one righteous requirement of God.

Obedience.

If we walk according to the desires of the Spirit of God within us, we will be practicing righteousness, expressing out faith through love.

The way we demonstrate our love for God is by obeying Him to love our neighbor.

I hope we can discuss this all important subject in the balance of taking hold of the eternal law of the Lord as well as the grace of God, so that we come forth with the balanced understanding of both of them.

It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them. Ecclesiastes 7:18 NASB

Good post JLB. You are right. Most of Christendom is divided in to two camps. Those who base their salvation by Law keeping and those who discard the Law and claim their salvation by faith. But, without the Law, there would be no grace. Before the law was given, men died. Part of what the law did was God showing why men die. The law did not change mans fate, it explained it. And the sacrificial ordinance's was in type, showing man, God's grace to come. But man tried to establish their own righteousness by the law...even to this day (Rom. 10:2-4). So yes, lets share what God has revealed to us about Law.

The law brought us to God's grace through that of the final sacrificial Lamb without blemish whom is Christ Jesus and His finished work on the cross. Grace pardons us as mercy loves us and forgives us.
