The Kingdom: Where
What
Where
When
Why
Who
How
Previously: Why? Jesus wanted us to make a better world for ourselves and
live a happier more fulfilled life.
Where?
John the Baptist came announcing the coming of Jesus.
He was preparing the way, as was done when Kings were moving from one town to another--- some would go ahead and make the road as smooth as possible.
John was preparing persons for the idea of repentance which is necessary to be born again.
John said: “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.”
This meant that the Messiah was coming. Perhaps not the Messiah the Jews were waiting for, but the Messiah nonetheless.
Jesus brought the Kingdom of God to earth.
But WHERE is that Kingdom?
Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee and called Simon Peter and Andrew, his brother, to follow Him. Jesus told them they would be fisher’s of men. But why fish men? So that more and more persons could belong to the Kingdom of God.
So that the Kingdom could be established on earth. And, in fact, great multitudes did follow Jesus, from Galilee and from beyond the Jordon.
In John 3:3 Jesus tells Nicodemus that unless one is born again, or born from above, he cannot see the Kingdom of God. Not only could he not see the Kingdom, he could not Enter Into it. So it must be a real “place”.
We live here and see everything around us. All is visible. But there’s a world all around us that is not visible. It’s the world of the spirit of all born-again believers, it’s the world of God, which is on a higher plane than the world we could see.
Just as the physical world is real, so the spiritual world is real also. In Luke 17:21 Jesus tells the Pharisees that the Kingdom was in their midst. This meant that the Kingdom is within us. It’s that part of us that communes with God.
Jesus instructed the Apostles to preach the Kingdom. If a house accepted the Kingdom, they were to greet those of the house with peace, but if they did not accept the Kingdom message, they were to shake the dust from their feet and continue on. This is because if someone cannot see the Kingdom, he also cannot be a part of it.
Luke 9:60-62
Jesus tells a follower who wanted to bury his father first, to let the dead bury the dead. He, instead, was to go and preach the Kingdom so that those who belong to it could have life. In Acts Phillip preached the Kingdom, Acts 8:12
Paul preached the Kingdom, Acts 19:8, Acts 28:23.
All the Apostles preached the Kingdom of God and how to be a part of it.
Jesus taught His followers to preach about the Kingdom also.
Not only is the Kingdom internal, it becomes an outward expression of an internal feeling and reality. God has delivered us from the domain of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of His Son, where surely we could experience a better life. Colossians 1:13.
In the Kingdom we will experience a child-like humility. Mathew 18:3
In the Kingdom we find peace and joy and righteousness. Romans 14:17
So we could say that the Kingdom is really a different dimension where all born-again believers live in the spirit.
But this inward Kingdom must be released into the outer world. When we are peaceful, we can spread that peace to others. If we’re happy within our spirit, we could spread that happiness to others. If we pick up our cross and Jesus’ yoke, we can help others with their life, thus making it better for them.
A simple smile could be enough to brighten someone’s day. That smile takes place in the Kingdom and is transferred to the visible world.
The Kingdom is within us, but it is also a real dimension where we could experience a bit of heaven right here on earth.
