This is just another chapter in what has become my favorite franchise. I have been watching these movies since I was about 6 or 7, and have been a fan the whole time. I was glad when they dropped the new trailer for the next installment at the recently concluded Celebration Convention (even though I was hoping for a full length trailer to drop at the end), and my excitement has been further fueled by this little snippet.

Anyone else excited about the impending arrival of this movie?

Yes. Lots of speculation on Luke's cryptic utterance. Are the Jedi really ending? Or does Ray resurrect (so to speak) the whole thing?

December's such a long way away!

For some reason, even though I am also into mideval history, I was never really into the whole Jedi aspect of the story (which of course is a huge part). I have always been more drawn toward the space battles. Give me an x-wing over a lightsaber any day.

Fair enough. But isn't Jedi based more on Japanese feudal knights, i.e. the Samurai? George Lucas is a big fan of the Samurai, and Star Wars is largely inspired by a Kurosawa classic The Hidden Fortress.

True, which is why it is a big draw for many people. I just prefer other aspects of the franchise. I actually like Rogue One for the very reason there wasn't much going on in the way of Sith vs Jedi.

Do you like the Kylo Ren character? He seems to be a direct tangent to the whole Jedi mythos, as he is anti-Jedi yet not Sith. In fact, he gives me the impression of a European medievel knight, as you mentioned, right down to his broadswordish lightsaber.

Possibly. I have seen reference to "the knights of Ren", but have not looked more into it. That is most likely where he is getting his new name (since apparently he was originally Ben Solo). When I first saw his saber I thought it was rather poorly designed considering how it is to be wielded. It would be very dangerous for the bearer to swing that sword without injuring himself somehow.

I like the reveal of Darth Maul's saber more.
