The Night My Laptop Upgraded to Windows 10 Without My Knowledge

Like many PC owners, I've been receiving a lot of notifications from Microsoft lately suggesting, advising, and even strongly recommending that I upgrade to Windows 10, the company’s latest operating system. Well, when the company unveiled Windows 10 in 2015, it boldy promised app developers the operating system would be running on 1 billion devices within two to three years.

Don’t blink, or your PC might upgrade itself to Windows 10

Yes, it's true. Microsoft made windows 10 a recommended upgrade, which most computers apply automatically.

I write on two tech forums, and you ought to see the enraged posts we get from people who turn on their computer and discover that Windows 10 is now theirs.

Please don't throw rocks at me, but why not try it? It's free, and you have thirty days to revert to your original system.

LOL! I have a duel boot Ubuntu over trashy windoze 10. If people have any sense what so ever they will make the small but always free transition to one of the versions of Ubuntu. I recommend Mint with the Cinnamon Desk top or the Ubuntu Mate that I am presently running on my lap top and my desk top. If you must use your MS Office, install the free Wine package and run it as native in Ubuntu. And there are now over 40,000 free packages to load onto your free Ubuntu Linux system and the change is less of a stress than changing from XP to 10.

I went and looked... I am painting the inside of the house .. i need to think clearly to do computer stuff.. if i can have XP ...

I have a couple older towers ... I should be able to buy memory 'bars' that you pop in ... right... I wish i was younger when computers hit us..

Sheesh Bill i dont remember .. When my computer acts up i get angry and angry = goofy.. ...
If you download it I will write out the directions for you to burn it to a CD so it will boot your computer and install the very latest version with every update through the end of Service Pac 3 and it come with a pot full of drivers, Explorer 8 and the windoze media player. It's worth the trouble for somebody like yourself.

I must caution you on downgrading to an older OS if you have a computer with a 64bit processor. Reason being is that you will only be able to use half of the resources available in your computer, which may cause performance issues.

I have experienced this first hand with my work computer where they originally installed a 32bit version of Windows 7 on a machine that has a 64bit processor and 6 gigs of ram. With the 32bit version of the OS I only had access to half of the ram that was onboard. Recently I had our IT department upgrade it to 64bit and immediately noticed an improvement in performance.

That is a valid statement but Reba wants nothing but her XP. I run the Ubuntu because I love what I get with 12 gig of RAM.

Humorous addition here. My 64 bit rig has three partitions. A legal copy of 8, a legal copy of 10, and a legal copy of 32 bit XP for old games. All three run well. My machine was designed for Windows 7 (which I upgraded to 10).

As a humorous sidenote: My 64 bit rig has three partitions. I have a legal copy of 8, a legal copy of 10, and a legal copy of 32 bit XP for old games. All three systems run fine.

If you have any problem picking up memory for your older units I probably have what you need in my parts supply that you can have for the postage cost.

Oh, and yes, this fresh copy of XP PRO is a great idea for you. And if you have a unit that is to old to run XP, I have RAM Memory for them also, free, and Puppy Linux will make it operate like a modern day computer. And Puppy has a windoze like User Interface... point and click.

Hi Vince,
I you ever get adventurous you can download a free copy, not a demo, of Virtual Box to run in your windoze without, even, another partition and you can test any other Operating System without any issues.

Rigid arent we?

I thought I was bad.my wife refuses to move into last decade of the 20th century. If I went your route, any new car would be beyond me .I would have to retrain of course on some models but if it's a big enough need ,I will.

If we stop LearNing we grow old.
