My understanding of the parable is:
First,
I do not believe in a so called pretrib rapture.
Satan will come in pretending to be Christ.
If possible fool the very elect.
The oil represents anointing.
The 5 foolish are those that will be deceived by him.
They go to where they buy and sell.
To be able to buy or sell, you must receive the mark of the beast.
While they were at Satan's feet, the real Christ came.
The 5 wise remained virgins, spiritually.
The 5 foolish became part of the Great Harlot, no longer a virgin, spiritually.
The hour they think not, because they think He is already here.
Deception is Satan's game from the beginning.

One of us might be correct but until He makes the truth known we can agree to disagree and sit down at the table to sup together. May God bless, youngster.

Scripture does command us to...be ye perfect, even as I am perfect. So we do have to try. Just because we can not achieve perfection on our own is no reason to not try. Of course we will fail.

Edward, be ye perfect is often taken in context with being perfect before the law. Is that what you are indicating when you talk about achieving perfection?

Be be perfect, even as I am perfect.... Perfect in forgiveness, perfect in mercy.

Nosiree, Brother. I'm not of a lawful mind, but more towards the freedom and liberty of the Holy Spirit.
Achieving perfection to me, is to be perfected in love.

The pastor preached on the 10 virgins a couple weeks ago, and a thought hit me about the Foolish Virgins that I had never had before...

Their lamps are out of oil -- yet THEY CAN SEE TO TRAVEL TO GO BUY MORE??!!??

If they can see to go to the "oil merchant" -- can't they see to just go meet the Bridegroom even with their empty lamps?

Years ago before electricity was in our district, homes used oil lamps. The lamp in this video looked just like the one my mother used.

How to Use an Oil Lamp
I was trying to get a photo of an oil lamp but this will suffice.

This is a wick which was placed in the lamp this soaked up the oil. I remember as a child the bottom of the wick would be damp with the oil but there would be no oil in the lamp but it would still be burning. Once it burned out there would be no light. Perhaps the virgins saw the light burning but never check to see if there was oil in the lamp. Readiness and being alert is what Christians need to be.

There is no possible way to know how much oil we need. "No man knows the hour"

But, we know who gives us the oil and if we abide in Him then we have an unending source of oil.
agreed that is why we have to refuel we only have enough for ours self. clearly the 5 foolish was not as read as they though they was.

Take King David for instance. We all know that the man sinned here and there, some pretty big sins too. But I don't think that David was what we could call, a practicing sinner. He was a practicing servant of the Lord...and occasionally stumbled. So therein is why David is a man after God's own heart. And that my friend, is not hypocrisy.
David was a man after God own heart . he knew what it took to fix the problem.. Repent ..same thing with us

Yep. Repent. Get back up and turn back to God. Not run and hide like Adam & Eve did. Like I have done. But it does get easier. When I sin, or feel unworthy somehow, I just remind myself that, I am unworthy and so is everyone else. My sins and temptations are such as is common to man. So there's no reason to hide or deny. Own up to it and get on my knees and pray. God didn't change, I did.
and that is what helps me a lot.

well we are not worthy But Grace makes us worthy .we make the walk harder than it is just follow the instructions .but just like when we think we can assemble something with out reading the instructions . we know more than the instructions james said be doers of the word not hearers only . we can talk the talk but fail the in the walk
