I wrote the following article to shed light on an issue that is little discussed and less cared about in our society, but as humans we all have an invested interested in the dignity and protection of the human person from conception to natural death, which is what gives any society the high moral ground in the world.

The Truth behind the birth control pill

It is a fact that the birth control pill kills newly conceived babies. When then are so many Christians and non-Christians, both married and unmarried, adopting such a course of behaviour, that is in direct opposition to Christian morality and the natural law?
According to the highly esteemed Physicians Desk Reference and the Guttmacher Institute (Planned Parenthood’s research branch) attest that the birth control pill works in three ways: 1. To inhibit ovulation 2. To inhibit conception 3. To Inhibit implantation (via altering the endometrium). One Dr. John Bruchalski explains in an article pertaining to this subject this scientific reality:

“While the predominant mechanism of action for the pill is the inhibition of ovulation, it also thickens the cervical mucus and can interrupt implantation of the early conceptus by altering the lining of the uterus. Such interruption is an abortion.â€Â

At conception we are fully human. We possess from that first instant of our existence twenty-three pairs of human chromosomes, or our entire genetic makeup, and we are developing. Christian theology would add that at this momentous spark which signals the beginning of our existence, Almighty God personally creates and infuses into our being an immortal soul. The great ancient philosophers believed in the reality of the existence of the soul, and of an afterlife that was affected by one’s actions. This qualifies us from that exact moment as being fully human.
Many “common†contraceptive methods actually function on occasion as chemical abortafacients. These include: the pill, the intrauterine device, Norplant, Depo Provera, and the Morning after pill, or Plan B, (Which is just a more potent version of the birth control pill).
Christians and non-Christians alike must spread the truths about these abortafacient devices that are extinguishing millions of children annually. It is an interesting truth that in Nazi Germany abortion was permitted for Jews but not for native Germans. We have as varying cultures, with or without sufficient knowledge, efficiently liquidated a vast number of babies by using these contraceptive methods.
The pill kills-it is the hard truth. But it will remain a silent truth unless those who truly
Care about the children within the womb, as fellow humans and our brothers, listen, learn, speak, and act to save lives. One might ask who has faith in some form of afterlife…what happens to all these little human beings whose lives are extinguished prematurely in the womb. I for one believe they are in heaven, and people of all faiths, or those with none but who believe in the intrinsic dignity of the human person, can save so very many by just spreading the truths about the various abortafacients.

(Note: other side effects of the pill include weight gain, an increased chance of breast, cervical and liver cancer, blood clots and strokes).

Good information, thanks for sharing. Although my daughter is only 11, we've already been having a lot of discussion about these things. I would have liked to have waited longer, but in today's society, 11 is in no way "too soon".

At any rate, we've talked about why abstinence is so important before marriage and how couples have choices on when and how to have children. But, one of the things I've been stressing with her is the fact that many birth control methods that are deemed "safe and effective" can indeed abort a conceived human being. As we have already gone on-line and have looked at some of the truly remarkable pictures of babys in the womb, she in no way wants to participate in anything that would kill a baby. I wish that they had had such pictures when I was younger. I used to be OK with the idea of abortion until I took Child Developement in college and, for the first time, saw what a fetus actually looked like and how they can respond to stimulus, hear sounds, suck their thumbs, etc. Until then, I truly believed the lie that it was all just "tissue".

Years ago I was in conversation with some men at work and the subject of abortion came up. One man asked why someone would kill a baby unless they didn't know it was a real living being. Before I could say anything a friend of mine (a Catholic veteran of the abortion protests) told the man in a weary tone that the people who go in for abortions already know that it is a living being. They just say that it isn't to excuse what they are doing.

Because those who would kill babies and see it as a freedom, convenience, personal, or private issue, they have no qualms about lying. The result is that the issue is clouded with all sorts deception, delusion, and misinformation.

One of the biggest deceptions is that the subject of abortion is an educational issue, because if people just had information, they would take the right action. Many people try valiantly to "get the word out". God can use these efforts to reach a few who would tolerate the truth. However, for most people, truth is unpleasant and unwanted.

You have to understand just how much of our society has already been taken over by the religion of secularism (the worship of man in general and self in particular). Secularism is our national religion. One of the tenants of this religion is that pregnancy is slavery for women. The hatred the followers of secularism have for the role God gave women is difficult for the rational mind to fully grasp.

If you narrow your focus to trying to raise awareness among "Christians" that oral contraceptives are killing babies, you may not meet with much more of a welcome than you would find at any temple of secularism such as a university. This is just a measure of the extent to which true Christianity has already dissappeared from our nation.

Many people don't want to know the truth so that the can continue doing what they want to do, but some do hear and their lives are changed by it.
