has any ever tried to search any thing on these men ? last year i was just doing a internet search on Christmas and come across this Micah 4:8 (ESV) And you, O tower of the flock, hill of the daughter of Zion, to you it shall come, the former dominion shall come, kingship for the daughter of Jerusalem
Migdal Edar the tower of the flock... while this claim /source is not found in the Bible . many feel these shepherds were Levitical priest tending the sacrificial lambs. after finding this reading scripture imo there a very great possibility . that this could be true,
please note i am not necessarily making a theological thus saith the Lord claim.
luke 2:
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Hi Ezra, I also had read somewhere that the shepherds were caring for the sacrifical lambs.
I don't remember that they were levitical priests.

I did want to say that I also read that Jesus might actually have been born in the home of a friend of Mary and Joseph.

Also, the Magi didn't show up the night of the birth, but at least two years later.
Mathew 2:10 they showed up at a house, not a cave.
And this is why Herod had children killed who were two and under.

some scholars feel he was born at The tower of the flock (Hebrew ‘Migdal Edar’) was a watch tower located on the road at Bethlehem. One of the main roads in Israel at that time was often called ‘the kings’ highway’. It was a road that followed the top of the mountains, and for good reason. If you were traveling that road, you would have the advantage of knowing where an enemy was located, because they would be below you. It was a much more advantageous position than being in the valley, trying to see above. Watch towers were located along that road…at times used for the safety of country, but also used to watch over large flocks of sheep. i had thought it being close to christmas something positive might be nice. appreciate the reply .honestly if i was allowed i would delete this post.

Why?
It's interesting.
I also heard of the Kings Highway.
And about what it means to "prepare the way of the Lord".
Roads were prepared for Kings and other VIP's because they were so rough and harsh.
This helps us to understand how life was back then...

Huh? You talking about the sheep in the OP?

Never heard of this tower and in looking it up I found this site that might shed some light as it seems plausible that this could be the place of Christ birth as there would defiantly be a manger there being close to Bethlehem. Kinda interesting as scripture does not give an exact place, but does say in the city of David as who knows how big Bethlehem was at that time as a town can include parts of the rural.

Not giving us an exact date or time.. was done with intent.. IMO
My mind kinda goes to the early fall dating...

I believe it was Sept-Oct Jesus was born as I found this online many years ago, but never thought to add the website so this is not my work, but do agree with it.

According to Luke Chapter One Jesus was conceived six months after the conception of John the Baptist and was born nine months later in the months of September/October according to the Lunar Jewish Calendar.

King David on God's instructions (1 Chr 28:11-13) had divided the sons of Aaron into 24 groups (1 Chr 24:1-4), to setup a schedule by which the Temple of the Lord could be staffed with priests all year round in an orderly manner. After the 24 groups of priests were established, lots were drawn to determine the sequence in which each group would serve in the Temple. (1 Chr 24: 7-19).

1 Chr 24:19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.

Now each one of the 24 "courses" of priests would begin and end their service in the Temple on the Sabbath, a tour of duty being for one week (2 Chr 23:8, 1 Chr 9:25). On three occasions during the year, all the men of Israel were required to travel to Jerusalem for festivals of the Lord, so on those occasions all the priests would be needed in the Temple to accommodate the crowds. Those three festivals were Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, and Tabernacles (Deut 16:16).

The Yearly Cycle of Service in the Temple.

The Jewish calendar begins in the spring, during the month of Nisan, so the first "course" of priests, would be that of the family of Jehoiarib, who would serve for one week, Sabbath to Sabbath. The second week would then be the responsibility of the family of Jedaiah. The third week would be the feast of Unleavened Bread, and all priests would be present for service. Then the schedule would resume with the third course of priests, the family of Harim. By this plan, when the 24th course was completed, the general cycle of courses would repeat. This schedule would cover 51 weeks or 357 days, enough for the lunar Jewish calendar (about 354 days). So, in a period of a year, each group of priests would serve in the Temple twice on their scheduled course, in addition to the 3 major festivals, for a total of about five weeks of duty.

The Conception of John the Baptist.

Back to Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, which is important to understand that Jesus was born September/October according to the Lunar Jewish Calendar being conceived six months after John the Baptist.

Luke 1:23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.

Luke 1:24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived

Beginning with the first month, Nisan, in the spring (March-April), the schedule of the priest's courses would result with Zacharias serving during the 10th week of the year. This is because he was a member of the course of Abia (Abijah), the 8th course, and both the Feast of Unleavened Bread (15-21 Nisan) and Pentecost (6 Sivan) would have occurred before his scheduled duty. This places Zacharias' administration in the Temple as beginning on the second Sabbath of the third month, Sivan (May-June).

Having completed his Temple service on the third Sabbath of Sivan, Zacharias returned home and soon conceived his son John. So John the Baptist was probably conceived shortly after the third Sabbath of the month of Sivan.
