We've had other threads on the Trinity I know. The last one fizzled (sadly). Since this is an important topic, I'll start another one. It's intended to be a study and intended to only examine the positive case for the Trinity. The purpose of keeping it as a positive case is to show those with questions how the Scriptures support the Trinitarian concept.

With that in mind, please show in your posts those Biblical ideas that demonstrate a positive case for the Trinity. Questions are fine as are challenges. But I don't want this to turn into a debate (as in a back and forth) because that would be counter productive. Other threads can deal with that sort of thing.

The OP: The big question before us is: What are the Biblical arguments that make a positive case for the Trinity (and why?) -

First it should be acknowledged that nowhere in the Bible is the word "Trinity" used. But what we will see in posts to come, the Father is called God; the Son is called God; and the Holy Spirit is called God. The case for the Trinity isn't explicity stated in a single verse as it is stated throughout the Bible, making a cumulative case for a Trinitarian God.

First, the Bible is pretty clear that there is but One God:
Deut. 4:35 - The Lord is God; besides him there is no other.
Deut. 6:4 - The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
Deut. 32:39 - There is no God besides me. 2 Sam 7:22 - There is no God but you.
1Chr. 17:20 - There is no God but you.
Psa. 86:10 - You alone are God.
Isa. 43:10 - Before me no God was formed, nor will there be one after me.
Isa. 44:6 - Apart from me there is no God.
Isa. 45:18 - I am the LORD and there is no other.
Gal. 3:20 - God is one.
Eph. 4:6 - There is … one God and Father of all.

So here the first point to be made is to clearly state that the Trinitarian view in no way suggests multiple Gods. The Trinitarian view is clear: There is but ONE God.

but....the Bible has much more to say about this God we worship.

Such an important study- much needed.

1 Corinthians 8:4 NKJV

Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in this world, and that there is no other God but one.

1Timothy 2:5 NKJV

For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, The man of Christ Jesus

Regarding Jesus:
Could just consider the entire gospel of John but....

John 10:25-30 NKJV
Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.

John 8:58-59 NKJV
Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John 1:1-5 NKJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 1:14 NKJV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

These texts speak for themselves and I don't think further explanation is necessary.

1. God is Spirit, John 4:24, not flesh bone or blood and in the OT either spoke directly to the prophets or by angels and also various objects like a burning bush or an ass for example. Between the OT and NT God was silent towards Israel as when they returned to Israel from the Babylonian captivity they came back as merchants and not shepards as they were disobedient to God going after other gods, Book of Malachi.

2. Jesus being the very Spirit of God before the foundation of the world as He and the Father are one was prophesied by the Prophets in the OT and spoken of by John the baptist in the NT as John being the forerunner of Christ calling all to repent. As foretold Christ did come as the word of God made flesh (skin, bone, blood) to be that light that shines in darkness. He came as redeemer Savior through Gods grace as Christ is our faith that all can repent of their sins and have eternal life with the Father to all who will believe in Him as Lord and Savior. John 1:1-4; 1 Peter 1:13-21

3. After the sacrifice of Christ God raised Him from the grave and as He had to ascend back up to heaven the promise was that He would never leave us or forsake us as when He ascended He sent down the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God) to indwell all who will believe in Christ and His finished works on the cross. In the OT Gods Spirit fell on them for a time and purpose under heaven. Now we are indwelled with that power and authority through Gods grace that the Holy Spirit now works in us and through us teaching all things God wants us to learn. All three are Spiritual and Spiritual awakings in us to know the will of God and walk in His statures. John 16:7-15

Ephesians 4: 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

1 John 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit as all three coequal Gods Spirit.

Jesus being the right arm of God. Isaiah 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Jesus is the word of God. John 12: 49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Jesus is word, light and life that is God come in the flesh. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Gods Holy Spirit come to indwell us and teach us. John 14: 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

There is only one God and God is the only Savior.

Isaiah 43:10-11 NKJV
“You are My witnesses,” says the Lord,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.

I, even I, am the Lord,
And besides Me there is no savior.

Isaiah 45:21 NKJV
And there is no other God besides Me,
A just God and a Savior;
There is none besides Me
.

Luke 2:10-11 NKJV
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

1 John 4:14 NKJV
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.

John 3:16-17 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

I have no problem embracing the concept of Trinity. I just resign it to the fact that is God and not a human person. God, who can do all things and is all things. It is not beyond my reasoning to understand that God can be Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. After all, He is God. The only God.

Three Scriptures, one doctrine:

1.
Isaiah 43:10-11 NKJV
“You are My witnesses,” says the Lord,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.

I, even I, am the Lord,
And besides Me there is no savior.
2.
Luke 2:10-11 NKJV
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
3.

If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. And I will request the Father, and He will give you another Helper to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth, Whom the world is not able to receive because it does not see nor know Him. You know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you.

[Matthew 3:16-17 NKJV] 16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice [came] from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

All three persons of the Trinity making an appearance at the same time!
