There is salvation in no other, for there is not another name under heaven having been given among men, by which it behooves us to be saved."

what if my wife wants to see me but I don't want to see her?
How does that work?

Why wouldn't you want to see her? If in heaven I'm sure God will help heal any of our wounds in life and remove every tear we have. If there was any reason for a husband and wife to not forgive eachother I think God will be able to mend that so we can forgive as He does.

(On that note, there's still a possibility that our relationships with eachother will be dwarfed by the love and Joy we have by being near God).

I could be wrong but I think he was joking. It's hard to tell sometimes though.

Well...I know that I don't know how Peter recognized the two patriarchs he never met or seen a picture of. But I assume that it has something to do with the "knowing" that will happen in Heaven.

Yes, John, that's one good observation of the future for believers after death.

What other clues do we have in Scripture that we will recognise godly people in the afterlife? What examples are there from OT and NT?
  • Take 1 Sam. 28:8-17 as an example. Here we have King Saul who recognised the prophet Samuel when the witch of Endor summoned him from the dead. When Saul knew it was Samuel, he bowed down to the ground. Saul recognised Samuel who came from the realm of the dead.

  • What happened with King David’s infant son who died? In 2 Sam 12:23 it states, ‘But now he’s dead. So why should I continue to go without food? Can I bring him back to life again? Someday I’ll go to him. But he won’t return to me’ (NIRV). David assumed he would be able to recognise his son in heaven, in spite of the fact that he died as an infant.

  • What about the story / parable of Abraham, Lazarus and the rich man in Luke 16:19-31? All three of these were recognisable to each other after death.

  • At Jesus’ transfiguration, according to Matt 17:3-4, Moses and Elijah were recognisable.
In these examples, the Bible does seem to indicate that we will be able to recognise believers in heaven after death.

Many people recognised Jesus after His resurrection (John 20:16, 20; 21:12; 1 Corinthians 15:4-7). If Jesus was recognisable in His glorified body, we also should be recognisable in our glorified bodies.

Being able to see our loved ones is a glorious prospect of heaven, but heaven is far more about God our Saviour, and far less about us. What a pleasure it will be to be reunited with our loved ones and worship God with them for all eternity.

BUT …

I want to see my Saviour first of all.

I think that it's a prerequisite for entering.

There are numerous indications in scripture that we will know one another. In fact, I get the idea we will know EVERYONE - even those we never met.

And I don't think that meeting an ex-spouse or anyone else will post a problem - for we will be changed, we will be spiritual beings in His presence. While we won't be gods or have His intellect, we WILL be in His presence - and all of this life will pale in comparison to the glory that will be.

There is no way our human minds can grasp what it will be like. I quit trying to understand it all long ago.

See...
This proves my point.
Marriage is temporary but ex-wives last forever and ever.

I've heard it both ways in different people's testimonies. Some say the went in spirit to heaven...and we're met by someone (not always Jesus) and they knee who they were...others were met by family and they did not know them until they introduced themselves...

Jesus has done it both ways in scripture. Mary thought He was the Gardner, and on the road to Emmaus they did not know Him.
But out on the beach when they had fished all night and Jesus cooked for them, they didnt recognize Him but they did realize who it was...

I pray for my ex wife. I hope she makes it.

Pizza,

In addition to the Scriptures I have given above, as hints believers will know each other in glory, would you mind sharing with us some more of 'numerous indications in scripture' that point to our knowing one another in heaven?

In Ezek.44:23-25 ( which is concerning the millennium temple)
The elect are the only ones allowed in the sanctuary.
All will be in the Spirit.
Ezek.44:23
And they shall teach my people the difference between the Holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
24, and in controversy they shall stand in judgment, and they shall judge it according to my judgments, and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all my assemblies...
25,And they shall come at no dead person (spiritual dead, those whom still have mortal souls) to defile themselves:
But for father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister that hath had no husband, they may defile themselves.

So, I would think we will recognize them imho.
