In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed the Father three time if it be possible, to let this cup pass.

Matthew 26:36-44
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

Jesus prayed the Father three times if it be possible, to let this cup pass. I think the commonly held belief is that Jesus drank from the cup, being the wrath of God. But I would like to show you that this is not so.

Jesus prayed to the Father three times if it be possible to let this cup pass. In this thread I would like to discuss this cup, what was in the cup, what did the cup represent. And did Jesus actually drink from the cup.

More importantly though, I would like to show you that after praying the Father three times to let this cup pass, that the Father answered his prayers upon the cross, and that Jesus was able to let this cup pass.

His prayer was answered, and Jesus did not drink from the cup.

Did Jesus drink from the cup? Did the Father answer His Prayers? Let's discuss.

John 19:28-30
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Jesus received the vinegar to His lips, but He would not drink. But here we find this cup, this vessel full of vinegar. This cup that He prayed three time to let it pass.

Matthew 27:34
They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They said to Him, "We are able."

I believe the cup was the sin of the whole world. Sin was/is detestable to His sinless humanity and His sinless deity. He was going to have the sin of the whole world(the cup) upon Him on the Cross.

I agree, especially since his prayers were so intense he bled from his pores. He knew what would happen and being separated from the Father by laying all sin upon Him was worse than any of the abuses placed upon him.

Exactly what do you think the cup was? Does Heb 2:9 have relevance? "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Jesus did not drink the cheap wine mixed with gall ( a narcotic) to prove to us that He was of clean mind through the whole process.

Jesus was resigned to drinking the cup. But He did not from from the cup. I have showed you a scripture that explicitly states that he did not drink from the cup.

Where did it say the cup contained cheap wine. Just so you understand, I am talking about Jesus Christ and the cup that was prepared for him. We are not discussing William Wallace and the movie Braveheart here.

The "CUP" was a metaphor for the horrible death that He was about to experience.
It did not pass.
He drank it down to the last drop.

No. You showed us that he did not drink the cheap wine mixed with gall at the beginning of His Cross. But he did drink of the cheap wine that was NOT mixed with gall that was rationed out to the Roman soldiers right before "It was finished."

Why would Jesus Christ sweat blood and intensely pray to have a cup of cheap wine pass by Him?

His Cup, was having the sins of the world laid upon Him and dying for ALL sins. He drank from that cup, and no one else was worthy to do so.

The cup was one that was prepared for Him. It is a cup the prophets foretold. As far as Hebrews 2:9, Jesus did taste of death for every man, but He did not drink the cup.

The cup I'm referring to that was prepared for him was the vessel filled with vinegar. He was prepared to drink the cup, and when He was ready, He said I Thirst. Can you think of another cup that Jesus was prepared to drink, where he said I Thirst. But as I stated in the OP, I am prepared to show you that the Father answered the prayer of Jesus, and he was allowed to let the cup pass.

You are trying to tell us that His cup.......was a cup of vinegar(cheap wine in His day).

So you believe that his cup was a cup of vinegar? And a cup of vinegar passed by The Lord Jesus Christ?

The cup to my knowledge as been seen as a metaphor for the wrath and indignation of God. He prayed that the cup might pass. Three times he prayed that the cup might pass. Are we to believe that the Father did not answer His Prayer. I believe he did.

But you were the one who just said he drank the cheap wine with the soldiers. Now you say he didn't. Could you make up your mind?
It was not in a cup. It was in a sponge.

29A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. 30Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
