The one rope was not made of the same material as the other two. That one was not going to break no matter how long the fuel burned. He had all evening if he needed it. It is impressive to watch though. A little hokey but apparently scary in person.
 
Actually, none of the ropes are ropes. They are steel cables sheathed in a flammable soaked material. Pause when the first "rope" gives way- it clearly releases at the lower clevis, via remote control, at the most dramatic moment. Second rope, same thing. It did fool the judges, though.
