This is the Meaning of Easter! (In One Paragraph)

It states in the bible that Jesus Christ is the word made flesh. Since Jesus Christ is God become man then the 'word' is God's word and as such man's flesh is now bound to the word of God. This binding of God's word to man's flesh means that our flesh, through Christ, is now subject to imminent judgment for any transgression. But instead of Jesus casting judgment against any one man or woman for any transgression against God he instead cast that judgment against himself on the cross.

That is the meaning of Easter!

Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ who is God became man, and as God's word made flesh, Jesus took upon himself all of man's transgressions against God and then died on the cross to pay for all of our sins.

God Bless

Christ was crucified on a tree, not on a cross.

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Acts 5:30

And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree. Acts 10:39

And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. Acts 13:29

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree. Galatians 3:13

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. Peter 2:24

Not funny but where does wood come from? The Roman Army hanged our LORD and it was their custom to use some form of a cross made from wood, a tree.

I find it curious that you use these verses to show that Jesus was crucified on a tree, but not hung from a tree, as the verses state. There is a difference between hanging and crucifixion.

We know from history that the Romans used crosses made of wood to crucify the worst of the worst.

In the Old Testament times, those who were hanged on a tree are accursed of God. Deuteronomy 21:22 and 21:23 makes these references. As the coming of Jesus to the world was prophesied, so was his death. There is significance of the tree. Jesus was a Jew and was living in the time of the Mosaic Law.

Moreover, the Romans who crucified Christ believed he had died on a cross and they did not believe he was the Son of God. It is the apostles of Christ, who had witnessed his crucifixion confirmed that he was slewed and hung on a tree as explained in Acts 10:39 and Acts 5:30

The cross was very symbolic in the time of Jesus. That’s why he had said to take up his cross and follow him if we are to be his disciples. Matthew 16:24

The verse in Acts 10:39, stated that Christ was slewed and hanged on a tree. Slewing a person is the same as crucifying to induce a death. Where in the Scriptures does it say that Christ was hung from a tree as opposed to on a tree? The verses I quoted are KJV and they state he had been hung on a tree.

I’d rather speak the truth in love. I have always believed that Jesus was crucified and hung on a tree. I also rather believe that he died on a living tree as opposed to a dead piece of wood.

You are free to believe what you like, but we know from history and the Bible that Jesus was crucified on a Roman cross of wood.

Mat 27:32 As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross.
...
Mat 27:38 Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.
Mat 27:39 And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads
Mat 27:40 and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross." (ESV)

Joh 19:31 Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. (ESV)

Tree is just a metaphor for the cross.

That is well known by this commentator and your answer is not, period, it is an answer but it is one lame attempt to change the subject,

Jesus was crucified on a Roman cross of wood

Do you mean that Jesus was crucified on a tree in form of a cross? What is a 'Roman cross of wood'?

The verses you have quoted from Matthew were written as how he witnessed the Romans believed and did.

Tree is just a metaphor for the cross.

It's the first time I've heard of this. Is this Biblical? Where in the Scriptures does it say that the tree is a metaphor for the cross? Did the Holy Spirit who guides us to all truth tell you this?

In the KJV Bible, there are over 475 verses where the word 'tree' was quoted. For 'wood', there are 150 verses, which contains this word and as for the word 'cross', there are just over 20 verses. The tree has a lot of significance in the Biblical times and there is the 'tree of life'.

Hi th1b.taylor, It wasn't my lame attempt to change the subject. Far from it. Over and over again, I read online, in books and in articles that says Jesus died on a cross. There is no harm in standing back and challenging what we read. We need to question ourselves - 'Is it Biblical?', 'Did Jesus actually died on a cross and not in a form of a cross?', 'Why did some Scriptures say Jesus was slewed and hung on a tree', ' Are there any verses to support this truth?' and so on. We need to look to the Bible as the truth and ask the Holy Spirit to counsel us and direct us to the truth. Not everything we read is true and people like to believe what they read as the truth without doing the digging around and research to find out the truth ourselves.

I concede the point that few they are that study to be approved and that being what your angling to do I say Forward with God's blessings! Far, far to many have accused me of being a Bible scholar and is surely because they have not taken the fifteen to twenty minutes a day to read what God has for them.

I think Free gave us the best, and most obvious, answer that it was not a living tree with roots in the ground.

It would have been impossible for someone to have carried a live tree with roots in the ground for Jesus.

Matthew 27:32 (ESV)
As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross.

Of course I don't mean "Jesus was crucified on a tree in the form of a cross." I very clearly stated he was crucified on a Roman cross made from wood. You made the argument in your first post that Jesus "was crucified on a tree, not on a cross." If you don't know what a cross is, how can you say that Jesus was not crucified on a cross?

The verses you have quoted from Matthew were written as how he witnessed the Romans believed and did.
What are you saying here?

It's the first time I've heard of this. Is this Biblical?
Yes.

Where in the Scriptures does it say that the tree is a metaphor for the cross?
Crosses are made from trees but trees are not made from crosses. Since Jesus died on a cross and since crosses are made from wood, it is reasonable to conclude that when the apostles and other NT writers say that Jesus died on a tree, they are using that as a metaphor for the cross.

Did the Holy Spirit who guides us to all truth tell you this?
No. Does "guiding" mean "telling"?

In the KJV Bible, there are over 475 verses where the word 'tree' was quoted. For 'wood', there are 150 verses, which contains this word and as for the word 'cross', there are just over 20 verses. The tree has a lot of significance in the Biblical times and there is the 'tree of life'.
In the context of this discussion--the crucifixion of Jesus--and more importantly, in the context of the verse you quoted, "tree" is a metaphor for the cross on which Jesus was crucified.
