Christians that believe they cant Fight Back are Deceived!

The commandment that says thou shall not kill is translated wrong it is really thou shall not murder.
But here is a very interesting article on the subject of self defense and if you have to kill someone. Not that you would want to, but to protect your wife and children, you might have to.

Not that it means anything, I just thought I'd point that out.

Can you explain in your own words why you believe the translation is wrong? And since opinions are like belly buttons, (everyone's got one) let's use scripture to work this out.

Thanks.

because if thou did and say, god commanded thee to murder. were the men in canaan murdered when isreal took the land or killed in combat by the command of god? there has to be a difference. god wouldn't break his own laws!

common sense. go and SLAY the women, children of those cities.

what does this context imply

And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword

So this is your proof that the commandment is translated wrong?

yes, the literal rendering is to devote them to the lord by the mouth of the sword. is that not killing? lewis is saying if its kill in all contexts then well they were commanded by god to sin.

Where does God give this command to kill under the New Covenant?

you are entiltled to believe in pacifism but reality happens at times on might have to take a life. in the case of defending ones family. if it was commanded to be there and we both knew centurions were under legets and command a hundred men. they took lives in war. yet jesus said nothing to the effect stop being them.

So then, you have nothing?

I can say the same with you. can you show me that its not a sin per your idea of killing by proxy. does god say. though mayest tempt men to sin. by saying come save me this time from dying? if I say its a sin to me neither should I tempt others.if I cant kill, neither should I tempt another to protect me. your argument.

That's fine.

he impleid that all murder is killing. when I read reba's post I realized that its also quoted in the nt. when paul quotes the word where does it come from? the torah. the context of the bible wasn't the whole bible but the tanach. so when paul said all scripture is inspired he was talking to those in his day. the tanach was written. the gospels were being spread by word of mouth and later on it was canonized.

.

if all killing is bad in the tanach then its all bad in the bible completely. if its not then we have to decide what is legally defined as murder that isn't in violation of god law . a state taking a life to prevent evil isn't that.

I don't read those.
.
really? the ot where is that name in the bible? it wasn't called that the ta in tanach is Hebrew for torah, the the letters n is the prophets and writtings the last is poetry. the Hebrew word bible is tanach or chumash(family bible)

or does your bible not have exodus 20? or the first five books of the bible?
