I ghosted the new school but I like the effect and believe me, Dad never forgot the Old School and it was ever in our minds in Vietnam and it was the standard we worked for.

What does the horse head symbol mean?

That depends on who you believe! If the you listen to a Cavalry Trooper, that is our steed but if you listen to the Screaming Chickens, the line stands for the line we never crossed, the horse for the horses we never rode, and the background for the reason why.

Im cav and didn't know the song or its use.the video shows General Custer.

Actually, I think those cavalrymen are re-enactors representing the 7th Michigan, commanded by George Custer at Gettysburg. Custer's men defeated Jeb Stuart's cavalry and prevented him from supporting Pickett's attack on the Union center. The plan was for Stuart to attack from the rear of the Union lines, but it came to nothing.

A number of those men later formed the Seventh Cavalry which was commanded by Custer in the west.

Angel,
Never, ever, believe anyone that is not a Cavalryman. The truth is that on my left shoulder is worn my Duty Patch of Service and when worn there my horse is looking to the future. On my right shoulder is a tat of that horse looking to the rear... the past. When my Cav Patch is sewed onto my uniform on the right shoulder, it looks back at what we've done.and where we have been.

FOOTNOTE: My Transcript, through the Eighth Grade is a matter of shame and when I had that Tat put on my shoulder I did not know the difference between Calvary and Cavalry, they both have the same letters and number of letters. Above that horse is exactly what I gave to the Artist because he, also, did not know and until I receive my Glorified Body it will read, "1st Air Calvary."

Now, whatever you do do not pay attention to whipper-snappers like Jason, every one of them are still learning to be REAL Soldiers.

And though I do not know the current status, the entire Army suffered the shame my Uncle Chester felt to his dying day. He was in the Cavalry when we were overrun in Korea and lost our Battle Flag. And as a result, every soldier tucked his tie into his shirt when dressed in Tropical Worsted or Khaki Uniform because not only did the Cavalry stand being overrun and the loss of our Battle Flag, the rest of the Army did not reinforce us.

Now you know the rest of the story... the shame Jason must live with!

After the loss of the colors there was a Tactical Withdrawal for regrouping but the only, forever, calvarymen are those of us like dad, Uncle Chester and I, we wear that patch unto death.

I was calvary from 1991 to 1994.I served with the 2nd cav regiment.the saying about 1st cav isn't new to me.I served with a man who wore it as a combat patch.
