see you over looked the seriousness of my post . while you think its is funny there are people nutty enuf try something like that

By the way, it would be extremely awful then if somebody did but it's not going to be me so there's no need for any concern there.

While I have enjoyed watching some other Tim Burton films, his Charlie pales drastically in comparison with Mel Stuart's classic Willy Wonka.

Actually, although I like both films I sort of prefer the new one. Just my opinion though. I thought that Freddie Highmore did an excellent job as Charlie. :thumbsup

True, but all movies have sinful things in them and as long as I don't do them myself it just doesn't bother my conscience, but if bothers yours or anyone else's, just don't watch it. It's as simple as that. Like Harry Potter. Some Christians like myself love it, some hate it. As long as I am left in peace to enjoy it then I really don't care who hates it. It doesn't faze me a bit.

Perhaps not all movies, but most today do have some form if sin because it must accurately describe the condition of the human flesh. That's okay for storytelling, but I suppose to what lengths it is taken to as well and if it was necessary or not. I have heard of directors purposely adding more bad things to increase the rating so children are not able to simply go in the theater and watch it. Kind of sad, and I have been finding how inaccurate movie ratings can be.

I presented both sides of the argument. I don't want you to feel I was directly poking at your movie choice. If I figured someone would make people pies after watching Sweeney Todd then there is something totally wrong. I understand most can distinguish between fantasy and reality, but there are some who cannot. There are also some that don't have a fear/consequence factor. You are right at what may be okay for one person may not be for someone else as we are all different. It is important as well that we make sure our eyes don't allow us to sin.

If I feel inside myself that I should not watch something, I usually don't. There are some things I feel I cannot watch at all so of course I avoid those. With kids, I must be vigilant even more than before because of how impressionable children are by what they see and hear. It gets me to thinking at what degree our entertainment choices affect us as adults whether we know it or not.

Freddie Highmore made a great Charlie! I totally agree. Definitely was not disappointed. I like how Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is more accurate to the books as well.

I know, if you saw anymore of my posts, you'll realize that I never meant it to sound the wrong way. :sorry2x

I know, you are more passionate about some things. It is okay. Not to mention emotion is not always easy to show online. I can be the same way, my husband calls it my "passionate about certain issues soap box" lol.

He did.

However, I feel that Gene Wilder did a better job in the classic than Johnny Depp did in the newer one.

I note that Willy Wonka gets a 91% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes while Charlie gets an 82%.

I honestly don't see that it is more accurate. Somehow I missed reading in the books the whole part about Charlie's father being a cruel-hearted dentist. Imho, the only thing better in the new version is the sfx.

Sweeny Todd is just a really good horror movie to me. I didn't even realize that was Tim Burton though. You still get a like from me for the other things that you said though. :)
This is why America's moral fabric is coming undone... tolerance and an outright fascination with evil. I'm Jewish... I'll never understand the whole fascination with Halloween and vampire movies. Its all a front and very dirty. You should read about Aleister Crowley and elite's plans for Hollywood and Western Culture.

Willy Wonka's father was put in the script for the film. In the book his father is assumed to be dead since he menyions he doesn't have any family to speak of. Also, the parental/family issues were invented for the movie as well.

Similarities to the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp version:

-They both use squirrels (not golden laying geese)

-Charlie's father works in a cap-screw factory

-Oompa Loompa songs use some of Dahl's original lyrics

-Loompaland, Prince Pondicherry, the Russian forged golden ticket, Arthur Slugworth, the cream vaults, hair toffee, the nutroom, Ficklegruber, Prodnose, and chocolate birds are all mentioned.

I suppose the squirrels and the Oompa Loompas were a huge factor for me. I love the mention of some more things that the first did not mention. Although, I know in 2005 we had a lot more technology for movies than we did in 1971 so things were not mentioned like the chocolate birds.

I never actually read the book so I'm just taking your word on this one. :yes

I actually had never heard of this man. I can say he dabbled in a lot of extremely dangerous things. This "elite" has also taken things too far.

I notice over the years that there have been a whole lot of scandals coming out of Hollywood about all types of abuse. It is so devastatingly sad. I am also seeing more actors getting saved and describing how hard it is to be in Hollywood as a Christian/Catholic/etc. without being harrassed. I am thankful to also see many more Christian films coming about. There is a Christian movement in Hollywood no doubt. Praying for these occult elitists to turn their life to Christ.

Could I please just point out here for the record that even though I love Halloween and monster movies and movies that have to do with witches and wizards and stuff doesn't mean I plan on joining the occult? I just like using the imagination that God gave me. :wink

Halloween is one of those topics that is a whole new can of worms...lots of different view points! Both sides of the argument make perfect sense, too.

So what about you then, do you like it?

I am stuck in the middle to be honest.

I do not like certain costume choices like witches, representations of the devil, vampires, something totally explicit, etc. (Not sure if I exactly care for the Jesus costumes, either since that may be more like a mockery to some) especially when there are much more light hearted choices like cowboys, princesses, butterflies, etc.

Halloween has been made a traditonally dark holiday mostly because of the belief of thinning spiritual barriers that allow "things" to come through into our plane more easily. There are probably higher instances of dangerous things like ouija board use, magic and spell usage, human and animal sacrifices, etc. Really, there is a lot of occult stuff going on. It is no joke!

However, Halloween is more of what the pagans celebrated. However, the trick or treating thing became more of an American tradition. Same with jack o lanterns from pumpkins. I think it was something else before like turnips. However they served a similar purpose to keep evil spirits away.

Before, it was actually All Saint's Day often celebrated November 1st. This was to feast and honor the saints whom are no longer with us.

I see churches using their space for a "light night" to provide a more safe and controlled environment in a well lit church. Although, the idea in itself isn't bad, sometimes these churches do not even mention Jesus.

For a few years my husband and I use it as outreach. We usually buy a bulk order of fun tracts that appeal to kids and are also good for adults that do not know Jesus. We get small ziploc bags, put a tract in each one, and then some candy. We figure if kids come to our door, we might as well use it to spread the gospel some how. Plus, parents with little ones usually love the ziploc bag idea so their toddler can't automaticaly put the candy in their mouth.

I agree with you somewhat on that but to me, Halloween witches and wizards along with Harry Potter witches and wizards are just pretend and fun. Not to mention it is a holiday all about receiving candy. Lol! What can be better than that? By the way, expect this topic and question to come back up in October. :lol However, I agree with you one hundred percent on the Jesus costume thing because I do see it as a mockery in this situation unlike in movies and plays etc. Just because of what Halloween represents.

You should read about Aleister Crowley and elite's plans for Hollywood and Western Culture.

I'd be curious to see what you came across

And Ozzy Osbourne's song Mr Crowley deserves a mention, for those that have obviously never heard it. Randy Rhodes on guitar, a true pioneer (and a creative genius)

Crowley is also tucked away on the album cover for Hotel California, the Eagle's top seller

I have an opposition to Harry Potter, but perhaps it was because every kid was reading it in school but me...or at least that is what it felt like. My parents were not fans of the witches, wizards, and magic. I can't blame them since some of the spells in those books are a few words off from real ones. I never really had the desire to go read the books or watch the movies.

I think most in the Christian community concerned about the darker roots surrounding Halloween of divination, evil spirits, and many unproven theories about where the candy tradition came from, etc.

You know, I hardly saw the Jesus costumes until I was older. I guess it bothers me that it is often difficult for women to buy a decent premade costume as most of them are mini skirts, low cut tops, etc. There are some costumes I cannot stand because of how inappropriate they are.
