I love this one:

““I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.†- John 10:14-15

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;†- John 11:25

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;†- John 11:25

N:

Amen! a great comfort when a believer's body is laid to rest.

PS:

This verse of the day section is great.

It's good for ppl to be encouraged to meditate in the Word, day by day.

:)

Think this is great too! :) ...

"Whoever did not have their names written in the book of the living were thrown into the lake of fire". Revelation 20:15

Not really :gah. I mean, sure, they get what they deserve (and we don't) but it's a shame that they never lived in the Light.

No I was agreeing wth farouk - that this thread is great lol

I agree it's not great for those who's name are not written down, but I put up the verse mainly for believers; that they will know that what they do is right ...

*incidentally how strict is this verse thread? - finding one verse only that explains everything I want to convey is hard; sentences in the bible tend to run into a few verses even when they're on the same subject!

Oh ok, no worries then.

It's not too strict. When I started it up I thought it would be nice to post a verse or a few every day or os that I liked, or that appeared on BibleGateway.com. You can post an entire parable if you want to, but it's more meant for a few verses.

OK then.:)

"It is better to trust in the Lord than it is to depend on human beings. It is better to trust in the Lord then to depend on human leaders." Psalms 118: 8-9

'... many of Jesus' followers turned back and would not go with him anymore. So he asked the twelve disciples "And you - would you also like to leave?" Simon Peter answered him, "Lord to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. And now we believe and know that you are the holy one who has come from God."' John 6: 66-69

Yes, a humbling and wholesome consideration.

““I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.†- John 15:5,8

You know, where the Lord Jesus says, 'Without me ye can do nothing', here, it's both a simple rule for the Christian to live by and a profound theological statement.

May we live in daily, prayerful dependence on Him!

I will always thank the Lord; I will never stop praising him. ... Proclaim with me the Lord's greatness; let us praise his name together! I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me; he freed me from all my fears. The oppressed look to him and are glad; they will never be disappointed. The helpless call to him, and he answers; he saves them from all their troubles. His angel guards those who honour the Lord and rescues them from danger. ... Happy are those who find safety with him. Honour the Lord, all his people; those who obey him have all they need. ... those who obey the Lord lack nothing good. Psalms 34:1-10

That is such a good Psalm! I'm really getting into the Psalms at the moment. I think I'll go through the book over part of next year.

Pslam 71 is one of my favourites:
1 In you, LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me;
turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge,
to which I can always go;
give the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.

5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign LORD,
my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
I will ever praise you.
7 I have become a sign to many;
you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.

9 Do not cast me away when I am old;
do not forsake me when my strength is gone.
10 For my enemies speak against me;
those who wait to kill me conspire together.
11 They say, “God has forsaken him;
pursue him and seize him,
for no one will rescue him.â€
12 Do not be far from me, my God;
come quickly, God, to help me.
13 May my accusers perish in shame;
may those who want to harm me
be covered with scorn and disgrace.

14 As for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.

15 My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds,
of your saving acts all day long—
though I know not how to relate them all.
16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign LORD;
I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
17 Since my youth, God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
18 Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come.

19 Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,
you who have done great things.
Who is like you, God?
20 Though you have made me see troubles,
many and bitter,
you will restore my life again;
from the depths of the earth
you will again bring me up.
21 You will increase my honor
and comfort me once more.

22 I will praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, my God;
I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you—
I whom you have delivered.
24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
all day long,
for those who wanted to harm me
have been put to shame and confusion.

Yep I think everyone likes the Psalms. :) ...

1. Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of inquinity. 2. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. 3. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. 7. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. 8. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. 9. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.
Psalms 37: 1-9 KJV

1. Don't be worried on the account of the wicked; don't be jealous of those who do wrong. 2. They will soon disappear like grass that dries up; they will die like plants that wither. 3. Trust in the Lord and do good; live in the land and be safe. 4. Seek your happiness in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desire. 5. Give yourself to the Lord; trust in him, and he will help you; 6. he will make your righteousness shine like the noonday sun. 7. Be patient and wait for the Lord to act; don't be worried about those who proper or those who succeed in their evil plans. 8. Don't give in to worry or anger; it only lead to trouble. 9. Those who trust in the Lord will possess the land, but the wicked will be driven out.
Psalms 37: 1-9 GNB

Yes, in the Psalms there is such a range of human experience.

Although the Psalms do not strictly relate to the church at all, yet there is a huge amount that is relevant and apt for our daily lives and challenges.

“The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.†- Deuteronomy 18:15
