Waiting for direction is one of the greatest tests of our faith. We see a perfect example when Samuel gave Saul a timeframe of seven days before Samuel would return and give Saul the direction he needed. When Samuel didn’t come in seven days Saul took upon himself to sinfully act as a priest and offer a sacrifice before God: “And he (Saul) tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering”
(I Samuel 13:8-9).

Little did he know that Samuel was just around the bend. When the prophet arrived, he smelled the sacrifice that Saul had offered and became infuriated at the king’s sinful impatience. Samuel was delayed because God clearly told him exactly when to arrive. You see, this was a test to see whether or not Saul would trust God in difficult times. God orchestrated it all because he wanted to give Saul a testimony of humble dependence on Him in all things, especially in a dark crisis. But Saul failed the test. He looked at the worsening conditions and decided that something had to be done.

This is where we fail at times in our walk with the Lord. We wait, wait, and wait some more. We hear the whispers—from Satan, ourselves, or other people—saying, “You’re wasting time. You’ve been waiting forever (the enemy always exaggerates). Do something, now!”

When we don’t see, feel, or hear God moving on our behalf, we tend to take matters into our own hands. But the Lord is looking for total dependency. That means trusting Him fully to do the right thing, in the right way, and at the right time. Like Saul, when we don’t wait on God, we lose the blessing intended for us. We have to become convinced that God always has our best interest in mind.

Why? Because He is our Father who truly loves us. Some believers might think, Well, I’ll just take a step of faith now, do something, and then ask God to bless my decision. Believer, the Lord doesn’t work that way. Don’t take the lead; let the Holy Spirit take the lead. The worst decisions in life are the ones that we make quickly, without first having clear direction from God.

Isaiah 40:31 states, “But they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.”

God promises us a renewed strength to keep on trusting Him when we wait on His direction. Whatever it is that you’re seeking God’s wisdom, guidance, and direction for, know this today: the answer is on the way.

David said in Psalm 27:13 “I had fainted (I would have lost hope), unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” His answer may not be what you want, but it is what you need. His answer is always what’s best for you.

When will we know that we’re receiving God’s direction? The answer is His Word and His peace. When you consistently have heard from God and you consistently have His peace about a certain direction, whatever it may be, then you’re receiving guidance from God. The Holy Spirit will bear witness with your spirit that you’re hearing from Him.

Isaiah 55:12 promises, “For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace.”

The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace (Exodus 14:14). "In Justification, the Lord fights 'for' us, and in Sanctification, He fights 'in' us."

Waiting on the Lord.

This can be a double edged sword.
There is such a thing as waiting too long, and this is typically based on making a decision to sin, that becomes a huge problem, and then a believer is waiting on the Lord to solve your mess, that you should not be in, to begin with..........and in this case, the longer you wait, the worse your issue is going to become, generally.
So, be discerning, and realize that it could be that you'll have to make a move out of that situation by no longer waiting and instead just dealing with the consequences of action, that are going to come, because this is the fruit of the choice you made in the beginning to engage in the situation that is now become the life storm.

Then you have the "Waiting on the Lord", that is based on Him getting you ready for whatever it is He has in mind for your future life.
This is the "enabling" period, where you are groomed and grown and strengthened and prepared.
This can take years, and many a preacher or teacher or minister jumped the gun, and left this time of maturing before it was completed, and ended up in a broken ministry because they undertook their call before they call was ready for them to do it.

Some of you who are waiting on the Lord, are waiting for an inner voice to give you a push.
I would advise you to pay less attention to inner voices, when dealing with a big big issue, a life change for example, and instead pay much more attention to the timing of circumstances that line up as confirmations.
As, its a lot more certain that if a window from heaven appears for you to go through, that is supernatural, then that is the answer, or the relief, or the release, as this is obviously the answer you are waiting for...., vs, some voice you might hear, that might not be the Holy Spirit.

What you have said is called eating from the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil," that brings death. Isaiah 55:12 promises, “For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace.”

God's timing is perfect in all situations as patience is a virtue in our time of need as we trust God who knows what is best for us.

Romans 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Transition times are when the Lord redefines and makes adjustments necessary for us to move forward. He gives us new focus and direction. He teaches us about Himself in a new way.

If we are in a time of major transition it is easy to feel stressed or uncertain (as we are impatient and don't want to wait for direction.) This is a time to trust that God has your best interest at hand.

We are bombarded daily with conflicting messages.

If you are experiencing a "narrow place of confinement," or you sense you are in transition, be assured, He is about to visit you with a fresh demonstration of His Spirit. May your resources increase and your trials become stepping stones to renewed power and revelation.

"The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field." Matthew 13:44 NIV

This parable has something to say about your DESTINY. Maybe God has spoken to you in the past about something and then it seems to not happen? Over the next few months, you can expect God to speak to you about your situation. As this happens, it will REQUIRE YOU TO TAKE ACTION to activate it.

There are things that God has called you to do that will indeed change the world. So, in a sense, the people that you are going to help are waiting for you to take a step to activate your life CALLING IN CHRIST.
