My parents were both atheist /agnosticish individuals. My dad more the atheist.
When I was 10 they agreed to take me to any church temple etc I wanted to go to. Of course I picked the synagog because it looked really cool. Then like ar really fancy church...
It all just never clicked with me, I found it boring and unbelievable (not in teh good way) I really liked science at the time, and I was liek "dinosaurs are cool, and they lived hundreds of millions of years ago, so.. they can't be right"

I also stopped believing in santa and the easter bunny around the same time...

My parents let me choose what I wanted, and said they would respect me 100% as long as it wasnt like a suicide cult.
When are you going to get out of that suicide cult you are in. Your choosing of death over eternal life is suicide.

Wow! That is quite a judgement call for anyone to make on that post :sad !
Or is it the person that is being 'attacked' & told that they are in a suicide cult? And what is said above to rate such a failing grade, and what is the name of this 'fold' that is a 'cult' requiring that all of its membership is are all going to receive eternal death?????? Romans 8:1???

Is thinking that the world is millions of years old the sin against the Holy Ghost? Verification please!

It is interesting how these threads ask for information about your being a Christian at its start, and then get set up for the 'suicidal' kill? Whatever?

And me? My 'seed sowing' came when I was taken at a very young age to the Federated church with a bible in my hand by a mother who taught sun school.

Do atheists have eternal life in the SDA church John or do they get death instead. :-? If they get death, then they are knowingly believing in a doctrine that is a choice of death over life. A little tongue in cheek response to Peace4all. I didn't mean to get your Fruit Loops on your Saturday go to meeting clothes! :biggrin Have a great day.

I would like to add that I married American soldier and he and his family is all churchgoers. I became Christian over 7 years ago; then I started to read the Bible and found out how noble Jesus' teachings are. That's why I believe He is son of God and Savior of the world confidently. Because He is such noble Person I believe everything He says is true. I respect greately what He teaches and strive to obey them all. Thank you Jesus!!!!

Thank you Soma Sight for your question.

Just curious...what were your beliefs prior to conversion?

Just curious...what were your beliefs prior to conversion

Thank you D, for your curiosity. :biggrin

I believed all we have to do is just do our best be good and do the right things.

The problem in this mentality is that I got stuck in my problems and could not find the right things to do. Christianity was my last result. That's how Jesus got my attention. Jesus was my last result and I am grateful for that!

I will not let Him go until end!!!! Thank you Jesus!!!!

i guess I've been lucky. I grew up in a Christian home where the "blessing" was said over every meal and I was taken to church Wednesday night, Thursday night (Ladies Prayer service), Saturday evening, Sunday morning and Sunday night! Church was our life and quite convenient at only three miles away. No A/C in that church so, the windows were opened in the summer time but, fans and Hymnals were available in the back of the pew in front of you. Everyone would stand and sing the praises of God from those old Hymnals. Occassionally, you could see people peeking in through the window at what was going on and try to listen to what the Pastor was preaching. Hedge bushes were provided outside for Mom's who needed to go outside and "correct" unruly children! They cut out Saturday evening service years later. Lots of precious memories there although it's gone today, taken over by "progress" and the city.

It seems that your church was being a good witnesses all around you!

Praise the Lord!

Thank you for sharing D. :biggrin

Good question. I was born into a nominal church family. My mother took me to church as a child. All I remember were colouring pictures and Bible "stories." My father, since he worked 6 days a week, strongly felt that Sunday was his day off to do what he wanted to do, and never set foot in church. My paternal grandmother, who lived with us, went to church just about every Sunday, and I remember her in her late 70's walking 1 1/4 miles to the bus line that would drop her off in front of the church. I don't remember my father/mother ever driving her!!!!!!!!!!!! She read her Bible every day and prayed daily. My mother is quite elderly now and just will not go to church, and has absolutely NO interest in the things of God. Her mother was like that---once a year to church on Good Friday, and that's it. My brother, nieces, nephews, cousins, on both sides---NONE of them have the least interest in the Lord or His ways.
Everybody always asks what planet I landed from!

Geez, I'm quoting myself! But, i did this almost 3 years ago. As an update, my mother accepted the Lord flat on her back in the hospital almost 3 months to the day before she died on January 13, 2006. I made VERY SURE that she understood that Our Dear Lord died on the cross in her place. Sooooooo...I believe that at the least, I will see my mother and my paternal grandmother when it is my time to go.

No, I wasn't brought up per se in the church, but I had an angel watching over me

Childhood was spent bounced between foster homes, Mom and Step Dad and a Catholic orphanage (St. Josephs Childrens Home, Spokane Wa. I recall when I was 12 at Dad's having the momons over and one day I'm gettin dunked in a tank of water in front of a bunch of people I didn't know... but boy were the box car races fun!

Later, in Juvenile the word was preached to me through some pretty fantastic people and I was baptised at a small church across from juvenile. Nice thing about doing time, it leaves lots of time to read and think.

There ya go, my childhood and teen years in two very small paragraphs :bday:

John here: Did I miss something between those lines in his (or her) post?

And your question?? Why do you not ask a SDA church member friend? Or are you reading something in my remark, that I am not??

And about another remark from [another post of yours] about 'me' not liking your old self? I am not to sure that I like the 'new you' (:sad??) posting either I suspect?

I got you dislike of me the last time. That is something that you'll have to deal with. I love you, John! :biggrin

I was brought up to obey the commandments. It was impossible. At age 30 the seed of the Spirit bought forth new life and I was born again. And now, what was once impossible to keep is written on my heart.

I got you dislike of me the last time. That is something that you'll have to deal with. I love you, John!

I was brought up in a sun believing church that it was a sin to not tell the truth, by my parents. Even to the verse of 2 Corinthians 4:2 of the K.J. 'hidden things of dishonesty' and 'not walking in craftiness' or 'handling the Word of God deceitfully'.

Such as saying, 'John, I love you' and then had just a couple post ago told the heavenly record books by a posted up insinuation at least, that I am a Seventh-day Adventist?? Some love?

Love?? Christ said it best: IF YE LOVE ME KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS". And this never voids out the 2 Corinthians 4:2 Truth! :sad
