Is Superchick reckoned to be overtly Christian?
They are. Been a while since I listened to many of their songs, but the song "Crawl (Carry Me Through)" specifically mentions God in one of the verses. Also, the song "Beauty from Pain".

What I've Overcome, by Fireflight

"I'm not what I have done,
I'm what I've overcome
I know I stumble
I know I still face defeat
This second chance is what will define me
I'm moving forward
I'm standing on my two feet
I've got momentum
I've got Someone saving me"

Good lyrics, and I think Dawn Michele has a very winsome manner to her; a veteran practioner of hard rock but with an appealing, slight reserve and clear desire to communicate Biblical truth that she feels. I think she reads from the Bible at some of Fireflight's concerts.

Blessings.

Praise You with the Dance, by Casting Crowns

I will sing to the Lord
And I will lift my voice
For You have heard my cry

I will sing to the Lord
And I will lift my hands
For You have brought me out of the pit
For You have brought me out of the pit

And I'll sing glory, hallelujah
I lift Your name on high
And I'll sing holy, 'cause You're worthy
I'll praise You with the dance
Listening to this again.

I'm actually learning to play it on the piano.

So have you played the piano for long? I used to a lot, years ago, but my wife and I should maybe practise more than we do.

Blessings.

Listening to the Metallica "Black Album" that is in its entirety available on youtube.

There's a reason Metallica are so hugely famous, there music is epic and unique.
(I'm glad it's on youtube, because I lost the CD somewhere long ago, no idea where and when. Not sure they'd like their albums uploaded on youtube for everyone to listen to, remembering how Metallica were one of those bands that sued Napster back in in the early days of file sharing. I remember I was rather disappointed with them when they did.)

Claudya:

So Metallica = heavy metal, right?

Yeah, well it's difficult to tell all the metal sub genres apart, but in case of Metallica it's rather easy. They were one of the founding bands of the Thrash Metal style, along with Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth.
Although the album I listened to earlier doesn't sound very thrash-y to me.

Claudya:

You seem to have quite a knowledge and appreciation of heavy metal / hard rock, anyway.

From other of your posts you obviously know and appreciate a lot of classical music. Just goes to show that appreciation of classical and heavy metal / hard rock is not incompatible, right?

I've been a metal fan only for like half a year. So my knowledge is still rather limited. But appreciation I do have. :yes

Every year in autumn I go through a few weeks of Irish Folk obsession. :lol
Many music genres have good music, so if one keeps somewhat of an open mind one can enjoy the diversity of music without feeling any contradiction.
It's just that some music genres have some sort of life style stereotypes attached to them (e.g.: metal = rough leather wearing heavily tattooed biker; or classical music = educated white middle class grandpa; gothic music = emo kid; folk music = pot smoking leftist daydreaming hippie; reggae = black guy who grows his own mj; and so on) that seem incompatible, but you gotta keep in mind that those life style and personality stereotypes that are attributed to fans of various kinds of music are just mere stereotypes. So the incompatibility barely exists.

Claudya:

Well, you're obviously learning to like metal.

But as far as what you (or others) may perceive: "metal = rough leather wearing heavily tattooed biker", do you really find this problematic?

I thought that was very arrogant of them to do that so I wont buy any more metallica now. I don't like them much anymore anyway. When they sued Napster I made sure to go pirate all of their music just because they did. I've since deleted it all, lol. I liked their very early stuff rather than the later stuff.

Well back then, it was like in 2000? the file sharing and digital music downloading business was in it's very early stages and the music industry was hit by it unprepared, so they totally lost control over what happened to their music. So I understand that in those days artists and record companies just felt very threatened by those new media.
However, what I found disturbing was that those musicians and companies that sued Napster where the ones that should have felt least threatened. Artists like Metallica or Madonna were millionaires already and only from the fees they get for their songs to be played in public they'd keep earning huge sums until the end of their lives. So their reaction seemed totally over the top and out of touch with their fans.
Other artists embraced the filesharing system (I remember a popular German band explicitly asking fans to share their music online) because they either hoped to gain publicity or because free access (instead of becoming rich) was their ethical understanding of an artist's work. But Metallica and Madonna suing Napster just made them look selfish and greedy.

Ahhh I miss those old Napster days.

But as far as what you (or others) may perceive: "metal = rough leather wearing heavily tattooed biker", do you really find this problematic?

It's a stereotype. I honestly never met a person that fits the stereotype. So I don't "perceive" it, I just know that the cliché exists in popular culture and in people's minds.
And even if I met someone of that kind I wouldn't find it problematic.

I miss those days too, but now youtube has everything so is ok! :)

Hehe, true. :biggrin
But back in 2000 it was all new and exciting. And with the terrible internet connection I had the download of a 4 min song could easily take 2 hours.
Now we can take it all for granted, and mp3 music is all commerzialised and normal. But in 2000 it was an adventure. :lol
And I was a teenager, many things were new and exciting in those days.

Looking for Angels, by Skillet

"What will you do to make a difference, to make a change?
What will you do to help someone along the way?
Just a touch, a smile as you turn the other cheek
Pray for your enemies, humble yourself, love's staring back at me
In the midst of the most painful faces
Angels show up in the strangest of places
"
