Right now I am reading a book I have tried to read several times before but this time I think I am ready to actually understand this book its called
"Waking the Dead - The glory of a heart fully alive" By John Eldredge

So far so good I am learning things & making connections :chin
How about you?
 
Love that book, I've re-read it several times and always feel inspired by it. So much in this life works to kill our hearts, make us live half-lives. John hits it out of the park in this book, showing that God wants us to be fully alive, not half dead drones going through the motions. I fully believe that God is much better pleased by an exuberant, passionate believer that sometimes gets it wrong, than a frozen chosen saint that seldom sins, but never lives.
 
I have just finished Washington's Crossing by David Hackett Fischer about the darkest days of the Revolution and the desperate victories and Trenton and Princeton that saved the American war for independence.

There is great significance to the Christian in this book where the author points out how important the Christian faith was, not simply to the great men we all read about, but also to the rank and file of the army and the civilian populace. Of course, we all know America wasn't really a Christian nation... :nono2
 
Luke's Gospel. It's notable to read the apt responses of the Lord Jesus to the criticisms of the religious leaders.

Also, a novel by W J Griffin.
 
right now i'm on chapter 10 " Thicker than BLOOD" by C. J. Darlington, actually it's a novel about modern day sisterhood that triumphs over the raw challenges of life to find real endurance of both family ties and God's amazing grace. The writer is an award winner ; christian writers guild

Sounds interesting...I cant find myself to want to read anything about this country makes me sick to know Ive been lied to just about my whole life...hard for me to even celebrate any holidays lies, lies ,lies! But Happy you enjoyed it & got something meaningful out of it!:thumbsup

Sounds interesting! Maybe I will look that up after I finish this book & then another Ive been trying to read for some times! :thumbsup
 
Just finished Inspiration and Incarnation by Peter Enns. Some interesting views expressed but its helped me look at the pre-conceptions that I bring when reading the Bible.

I love books that help you figure things out especially when it comes to the bible I get so confused listening to people opinions & then trying to read the bible good we have those help guides to bring things into perspective!! Definitely helps!
 
Just got done reading Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. It is a fantastic book for men looking for spiritual guidance in becoming a MAN. I also recommend the book Captivating by the same author and his wife. It is the female version of Wild at Heart. I have not read it myself, but have only heard good things.

Cool! I wasnt aware there was a male & female version but Im reading the male version now i guess ill check out the female version next round

But seriously I'm (re)reading a book called "The Cure." Absolutely incredible book that shows how we, The Church, have a lot of things completely backwards as relates to grace and trusting and pleasing God.

Sounds Interesting!! Why are you rereading? trying to get more out of it or was it just that good? Who was the author? I find a lot of religious people do things more out of tradition then really understand the true reasons if any as to why they practice their religion. Makes me wonder as to why we aren't as effective as they were back in the bible days.

Authors are John Lynch, Bruce McNicol and Bill Thrall

Re-reading because it is that good, and because there's so many layers to what's there, a re-read will always result is seeing something new. Sort of like Scripture. Not that I'm elevating this book to the level of Scripture, just saying that like with Scripture, new meaning and new application can be found each time through, depending on where your brain and heart is when you read it.
