Many people claim that books have changed their lives. For you, what was the book that you fully read and understood and noticed that it had an effect on your life? What book made you want to change for the better? What book made you realize the meaning of life? What book changed you as a whole?

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

The Gospel According to John. Written by a chap named John... with help from a "Ghost" writer! ;)

Amazing how it changed my life forever! For all eternity in fact.

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

Radical by David Platt and The Whole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns. They both caused me to try to read the Bible without preconceptions and as a result many of my fundamental beliefs changed.

Good Question!

Two books immediately come to mind.

1. The School of Christ by T.Austin Sparks
2. The Cost of Commitment by John White

I highly recommend both.

Both may be out of print but I believe T.Austin Sparks books can now be downloaded without cost. (WARNING: His writings cannot be absorbed in one sitting; a paragraph perhaps! HAHA)

I'm with handy on the Book of John. I do like to read, but even books about the Bible seem to lack the power of the Bible itself. I did enjoy a small out-of-print number, The Kingdom of Self, a good bit though. It pointed me to (you guessed it) the Bible for my emotional/psychological/spiritual needs.

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

I read a book called "Where the Rubber Meets the Road with God" by Jack Alan Levine a few weeks ago and it really encouraged me to start living my life to God's full potential. It definitely changed me for the better.:study

Obviously the Bible changed me the most but outside of that is another story. I'd say probably Darwin's Racist the absolute BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. Or maybe Origin of Species it's more of a Christian book now I feel Christians should and have the right to read on these things.

Definetly the Bible after that thought, The Exemplary Husband: A Biblical Perspective by Stuart Scott This a great book and sets the bar high for any man married or single as part of mirrage counceling I think this and the excelant wife by Martha Peirce are must reads.

Biblical Eldership: An Urgent Call to Restore Biblical Church Leadership by Alexander Strauch is also a good read for a biblical model of church elders and deacons!

Two other good reads are Why Christians Cant Trust Psychology & Only God Can Heal The Wounded Heart by Ed Bulkley

Bible Prophecy 101: A Guide to the End Times in Plain Language (Christianity 101®) Bruce Bickel

This book is one of the first Christian books I have read, which got me very interested into Bible prophecy. It helped me to understand the prophetic books of the Bible and got me even more interested and excited about learning.

Where the Rubber Meets the Road is a good book! It reminds me of the Book of Motorcycle Maintenance, which is basically a book of giant metaphors, its really nice

I would also have to say The Bible. Or as I call it, The Holy Book. Every time I read it, I have a sense of overwhelming peace and comfort. :)

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

Definitely The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis. The description of the process of "becoming real" applies, I think, to life after conversion as well (possibly...) to life in Heaven.

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

I'd say 'The Christian Testimony Through the Ages' by T.W. Carron had a sizeable effect on me. It gave me a distinct impression of the power and sovereignty of God, how He has preserved the testimony, how He used all sorts of people in all kinds of ways. One of the best church histories I've ever read, if not the best. :)

Amen! What a wonderful sense it is!

Madonna:

Good post! We must not slacken on our prayerful, daily Bible reading!

(PS: I wonder, does your screen name refer to Mary, the mother of the Lord Jesus, or to the accomplished singer who has that name?)

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

I read a few books that did that to me. They're all part of a bigger book called the Bible. I have no idea how many books of the Bible I have read fully but I'm still reading.

Other than the Bible there have been a few books that have really spoken to me like the Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis and The Circle Series by Tedd Dekker. Those are my other favorites.

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

The book of Romans. That was the book that truly shaped my theology and worldview. Other religious books that effected me deeply were Augustine's Confessions and Bonhoeffer's The Cost of Discipleship.

More secular books were To Kill A Mockingbird, The Brothers Karamazov, and Darkness At Noon. Each had significant moral themes.

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

I have read " Summer Snow" by Nicole Baart . I was dealing with a heavy heart before i stumbled at the bookstore and bought the book. It is about a young woman who face circumstances in life that needs her to show humilty and forgivess to her mother and to her self. It touches me in many ways , like It made me realize and understand that life should keep going even when we face trials and persecution, and also to be humble and release forgiveness coz it's the only way to live life fully. To learn from the mistakes .I also realize by this book how important our family and also to love more my mom. ...

Re: What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and

Probably the book of Romans. It really helped me to understand and realize that salvation is by faith alone, not of ourselves (so that no one can boast), and is the free gift of God. This was the most important.

On a more mundane and worldly level, it was a novel that I read as a child that had a profound impact on me. I read the novel Jurassic Park when I was 11 or 12, and it sparked my intense interest and passion for science, leading me to pursue an education path in the biological sciences.

Other than the Bible...
Though None Go With Me
, by Jerry B. Jenkins

It inspired me to live for God, no matter what I may face along the way.
