So I was reading a bit of the book of John and I'm just a bit confused why Jesus talks about how nobody can come to the Father unless He allows them to in the first place. So what exactly does that mean?

To me Sister HeIsRisen2018, God’s word goes forth as a testimony to all men. Are all men drawn to Jesus as the result of it? No, if they were drawn they would have believed.
I like the following version of that scripture better.
Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Hi HR, you have misunderstood the Scripture (John 6:43-45), It says: "no one can come to me (Christ) unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day." The example of this is in Luke 24:13-32. Read it prayerfully and tell me how you think this answers your question. If you do not see it, say so, and I will tell you what the Lord revealed to me.

No, I'm sorry. I read it and I still don't understand it.

O boy Summer Rose, I'm not sure that you want to go there because it has everything to do with ELECTION. The proof text is John 17, Yahshua's High Priestly Prayer. Lets look at it....

John 17:1 "When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you,
17:2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.
17:3 And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
17:4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.
17:5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.
17:6 "I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
17:7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you.
17:8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.
17:9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.
17:10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.
17:11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.
17:12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
17:13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
17:14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world."

Now, I could write volumes on these jam packed verses of election instructions. So, I'll turn this over to your wonderful thirsty spiritual mind. Please look these verses over and ask me any question about them and I'll do my best to answer them, my dear Sister Friend.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that basically means just like brother Eugene had posted above.

I'm not really sure what you mean by election though. All I can think of for that is politics.

We will not go to those unresolved battles in Bible Study.. Not because it is not worthy of discussion . Because it turns into a yes not yes no battle that brings out the worst in us.
do not reply to this post in this thread..

Hi HR, On the road to Emmaus, Luke chapter 24 some of Christ's disciples were walking on the road to Emmaus. It was after Christ's crucifixion and resurrection and together they were discussing the events. (Luke 24:13-14). And while they were talking, The risen Christ appears near to them Luke 24:15 But The Scripture says that their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. Luke 24:16. (The Father did this) And as they walk along, Christ asked them what they were discussing Luke 24:17 and then Peter tells him of the events and said they thought Jesus was the savior of Israel Luke 24:18-24. Then Jesus tells them that they are slow to believe and Starting with the word of God of the book of Moses and through OT and the prophets and Psalms, He explains to them about how the Christ should have suffered Luke 24:25-27. As they reach their dwelling, notice what Christ does, He ACTS as if thou He would go on by Himself Luke 24:28........But look what the disciples do, "they constrain Him", "saying, Abide with us Luke 24:29. Christ acted as if He would go on without them, for He wanted them to do something, Just as we hear the word of God, the Father wants us to react to...the Father is drawing through His word, but we have to react to it. So they invite Him in, Just as those of us do when we are drawn by the word of God, we invite Christ into our heart. And as they sat and began to break bread, Christ blesses it Luke 24:30. Look what happened, They invited Christ in and their eyes were opened, just as we accept Christ, so are our eyes opened Luke 24:31-32. (The Father did this)
You see The Father gives us to Christ, He draws us to Him by His word, It is only when we accept Christ or invite Him in that our eyes (hearts) are opened, And Christ keeps us safe to give us to the Father. (John 6:37; 45) (Rom. 10:14-15)
I hope this helps HR...This is Spiritual...not carnal teaching, and can only be understood by the Spirit.
In Christ, who is our wisdom and our righteousness,

Yes thank you! That makes a lot more sense to me. :) The only thing I don't get is if we truly feel that we accept Christ in our hearts, then why does our mind sometimes deceive us with doubt?

the mind is a huge battle ground we have so many old ways stored in it.. plus the devil likes to whisper in our ear . if the devil can get us to doubt .then he can twist things around remember what he said to eve after she told him what God had told them they could and could not do..he said DID God say from there he twisted God words and deceived eve and Adam

since your reading and having some trouble understanding scripture . here is a link to some bible commentaries https://www.studylight.org/commentaries/ this one is good and pretty easy in comments Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible Albert Barnes' Notes on the Whole Bible Matthew Henry's Complete Commentary on the Bible Matthew is a lot of reading

Well,.. let's put it this way. I believe very strongly that God loves me and that Jesus died for me, but sometimes I have unorthodox beliefs and different interpretations of it. However, since this is the Bible Study Forum, I'm not going to go into that right here.

Then how does one know if they are truly saved or not if the mind doubts?
you struggle very heavy with doubt of being saved ..your pastor should walk you through scripturesnnni posted a link you need to read with scriptures the Holy Spirit will testify we are saved..

That's exactly why I doubt my salvation because I seem to doubt an awful lot although I really want to be saved.
