How about obeying what Jesus said to do?

I think that would be swell.

So you think Peter is a false Apostle because he commanded everyone to be baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus, and he disobeyed Jesus by not commanding they all be baptised in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit as Jesus told them to go out and teach what he commanded?

No.
I think that when the people were baptized that Peter did what Jesus told him to do and the people were baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Otherwise, Peter disobeyed and perverted the command of Jesus and taught others to do the same.
The term "baptize in Jesus name" must be understood to follow the exact pattern which Jesus personally commanded His disciples to follow.
And historically, it is what the church has always done from the time of the apostles until today.
Yes, there are groups that want to do it differently and find some scripture to use as their excuse for departing from what Jesus said to do. They are no different than the "party of the Pharisees" who wanted Gentile believers to be circumcised and keep the Law of Moses. Paul had to deal with those yokels just like the ones who told the Thessalonians that the resurrection already happened.

We need to take it in the right context and what Jesus said. This is the only verse thats causing the issue. We know the scriptures say all the baptise was in the name of Jesus.

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost:"

There are three references all in one name.

It does not say go out and baptise in the name of the Father and in the name of the Son and in the name of the Spirit. Thats 3 names and 3 seperate entitys . That would be more seperating them not Uniting them under one name as some believe I have been trying to separate them. It also doesn't say "name's". Name singlular.

Jesus come in his Father's name and his Father was in him he speak everything what his Father says, he is the Son, and he had the Holy Spirit. All was United in that one name Jesus right?

The trinity is three who are in one name.

So what is the name?. If i am to be baptised in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, then what is the name im baptised?. Or has name changed to names and im being baptised in 3 names?

Mat 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying,
All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;..
."

(1) Jesus has all authority in Heaven and Earth.
(2) Jesus said to baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Not only in the name of Jesus)
(3) Teach them to do everything I commanded you to do. (The last thing Jesus commanded them to do was to baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit)

Ok, So what is the name?. The Apostles seemed to think it was Jesus.

If i am to be baptised in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, then what is the name?. Or has name now changed to names and im being baptised in 3 names, one baptism 3 names?

What name must I be baptised into?

So its now changed and its go baptise in the names of the Father and the Son and the Spirit. Or the name of the Father and the name of the Son and the name of the Spirit.?

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost:"

Not "name", "nameS."
Did Jesus say "Baptize in my name. "JEsus"?
No, he did not.
He said baptize "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is in that formula. He's the "Son" part.
So its now changed and its go baptise in the names of the Father and the Son and the Spirit.
:wall
It is NOT changed.
It is what Jesus said to do.
I've posted the scripture at least 3 times.
You don't have to understand it.
Just do what Jesus said to do.

Jesus did not tell me to do anything. He told his diciples to go out and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, and they went out and told the world as Peter stood up to be baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus as he had been commanded and God added to there numbers.

The Father, Son, and Spirit are all in the name Jesus. One name 3 entitys. The name above all names.

The Father gave the Spirit in who's name?.

I give up.

The good thing is we all still do the will of God. We believe in the one he sent who loved us, and we love one another, who also believe in the one he sent. Thats the will of God.

I have to forget doctrine and just stick to the will of God.
I see what you're asking kiwidan. What is the one name that encompasses Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Maybe, "YHWH" or "I AM?"

Hi kiwidan

I believe what Jim Parker is talking about IS the will of God...If Jesus is God.
It is not doctrine.

I think I know what you're saying, but it's two totally different ideas...

OK guys,
Because this thread has become somewhat of a debated subject it has been moved to the Theology forum.

So let's follow the rules of the theology forum and post scripture supporting your points of view.

Yes it is.

To say that someone who has stood up and confessed their faith in Jesus in front of many people (as normaly happens) and because the wrong words have been said then they have not been baptised is foolish and shows a total lack of understanding of what baptism is about.

It's not conditional for salvation, this is

Romans 10:9-13
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

I had the privilege on Easter Sunday to baptise 3 people.

I asked each of them "Do you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead?

When each of them said yes it was an honour and privilege to say "I now baptise you into the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit"

One man was in tears when he rose out of the water and was thanking Jesus.

To say to this man at some point "Sorry mate your baptism is false and you need to be re-baptised only in the name of Jesus" is truly shocking

To me the mode of baptism is not relevant (open to correction) but the reason why which is

''I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in my heart that God raised him from the dead"

They are being baptised because Jesus asked them to be. To me baptism doesn't save, God does.
Baptism is a spiritual marker on ones life.
I really liked your post my friend. It's unfortunate that the name or Names used in Baptism is so taking away from the intent of what Baptism is all about. It about identifying with Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.

This is also my thinking. If I Baptize in Jesus' Name, in reality I'm saying that Jesus is Baptizing because you can't take the Name away from the individual. They are the same. The Name is Jesus, Jesus is the Name....
John 4:1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
4:2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

Therefore if Jesus did not Baptize, don't use His Name.qawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww12222222
Maybe I made a mistake and either baptism is ok. So i cannot change what i have said but i will change my thinking and people know i now change what i said. Maybe I went off path a bit so i change what i said about it being false to now either or baptism is ok. In Jesus or the Father the Son and the Spirit.

Belief and a good conscience towards God.

Ok Dan. I'm proud of you. What you have just said is blessing my heart. I'm sure that the Holy Spirit is helping you see what Jesus wants you to believe. He so wants you, Dan, to center on His death, burial, and resurrection that Baptism represents. I think the most important part of the three is our new life! Hey, when you and I came out of the Baptismal waters after going down completely under the water, that in Jesus' Name we are buried with Him, and hey!! When the man of God brings us up out of that water grave, we are NEW Dan, brand new!! Jesus is blessed that we identified with Him and the Father is blessed that we obeyed because of conscience, and the Holy Spirit is ready to work for Jesus thru you and I because of obedience. Praise the Name of Jesus.
