What is the best way to get rid of extra blubber? I have a little gut forming in my chest. It's not too big yet, but I want to keep it from getting any bigger. But I would like to lose some of the extra fat and turn it into muscle. I would rather have a six pack than a keg. :biggrin

The most important thing when it come to dieting is NOT to starve yourself. If you do your body will hold on to the fat and not want to let it go. Eat a lot of salads, as much as you can in fact, in this way you will not gain any extra fat and the fat you have will be burned off by the salad, be sure to eat a lot of cabbage, cabbage burns fat the best. Oh and drink a lot of water, at least a gallon a day, it washes fat away. Of course exercise is very helpful. There are two different ways you must exercise to loose weight and to gain mussel. To lose weight is described above, to gain mussel you have to eat a lot of meat, I mean a whole lot. And take protean power up to 40 gram a day. And work out hard with heavy weights. When building mussel protean is the key, when loosing weight, eating no carbohydrates and plenty of salads are the key.

Good advice! But make sure that when you eat heaps of meat that you burn it off, becasue it could easily turn into fat. But starving yourself is definately not the way to go about it. That's as unhealthy as being obese.

Have a good diet- lots of fruits and vegetables, don't eat foods with lots of trans and saturated fats, but do eat those with polyunsaturaed unsaturated fats- ie omega 3 and omega 6 fats (nuts, eggs, fish, poultry, etc), stay away from foods with lots of sugar, don't drink anything except water (except maybe gatorade if you're working out :) ).

Switching to a better diet helped me lose ten pounds or so without really exercising. Exercise is still good thing though. Even just taking an hour long walk a couple times a week goes a long way. There's a lot more you can do than that, but changing habits is easier if you start out with small changes first.

Watch what you eat 85% of the time, don't stress and obsess over it. Get good cardiocascular excercise 3-4 times a week. This could include biking, running, canoeing, playing sports, or my fav..hitting the heavy bag or wrestling/sparring.
Strength train 3-4 times a week as well. Work your upper body (arms, chest, back) on seperate days than your lower(abs, legs).
Start out sowly and work from there. Have fun with it! :)

A good way to keep track would be to start a log. This forum would be a good place to start.
