What is the cure for diarrhea? I have been having problems with it lately. :sad

If you don't want to go down the medication route. Then build up your intake of fiber.

I know people have come out of the doctors not understanding why doctors suggested this as it seems to be the opposite advice - as surely (my friends say) that eating fiber helps in constipation so how could it help with diarrhea.

Fiber helps 'bulk' up your stool giving it substance and helps 'bind' stools. So eat a couple of bananas and bran flakes etc first of all.

Then if the natural way doesn't help you can take an 'imodium' (Loperamide). But if you really don't need it, imodium can make you easily go the other way to constipation so only take 1!

.

A word of caution: Please do not use all recommendation at one time. Pick on type of cure and stick with it. Mixing too many medication and or spices can cause problems. Never overdose on any type of spice. And, do not take imodium with a mound of other things that interfere or overprocess in your system. That can cause severe dehydration. So please be careful.

That being said, Here is what I do when I have problems.

Spice up some rice with turmeric (the main ingredient for this type of problem) and cumin and some garlic. These spices help destroy harmful bacteria that may be causing the problem and the rice will help with getting back to normal. It may take a few of days. Don't overdo the spice, they are diuretics. I would think no more than one teaspoon of turmeric or cumin injested per day would do well. Can be mixed in with about 4 to 6 cups of rice. Or with one serving if you don't mind the strong taste. Eat as much rice as you want, but don't over do the turmeric and cumin. Don't eliminate drinking water at least 3 glasses a day, no less. You don't want to dehydrate so much that you find you have another problem on your hands.

When I had the stomach flu I ate nothing but the rice mixed with vegetables for each meal. I felt much better the first day. but it took about 3 days for the symptoms to clear. Again, don’t allow yourself to get dehydrated when eating turmeric and cumin. drink at least 3 glasses of water a day. And stay away from beer and sugar. Sugars increase bacteria in your system and bloat the stomach.

Aslo, a banana will not interfere with any thing. Just don't overdo anything. It's the spices and the medications you must not overdo.

Hope this helps.

All right, you two. Is it enough that I have to get onto you for jumping on beds? Now I gotta get onto you for sticking things where they don't belong?! :naughty

I had a bout with it about a year ago, but to this day I still have episodes once in awhile. It can be caused by a lot of things. And in my case, I really am not sure to this day what it was. The doctor thought IBS and a colonoscopy turned up nothing specific. But they found GERD and it seems when my ulcer healed it abated. In addition, despite my praise of vitamins which I take lots of (and I feel out of necessity) I have a bad habit of a few too many rums and cokes at times coupled with eggs the next morning will do it for me later in the day.

So, in my case, it could have been from a hernia (causing the GERD) and then the ulcer (probably disease related exacerbated by the GERD). My own Rx, I basically fluished the Aciphex pills down the toilet and took even MORE vitamins and minerals as I was slacking off. I eat more vegetables, surprisingly onions seem to help me in spite of the warnings to the contrary (making me think this was viral or bacterial related). Also, I avoid in excess certain snack foods found in vending machines (like my work). At my old workplace before I was laid off, I had a large and healthy cafeteria. In the last few years working for this cheap employer they do not have such luxuries for us peons, so the weight and GERD and similar episodes went up.

So, in all this rambling, there are some things to watch for:

1) disease (maybe an ulcer somewhere)
2) GERD
3) diet (stay away from agitation foods and eat healthier foods)
4) Supplements may help

At least with me that seems to be the factors involved, and I would suspect with a lot of people.

As for IBS, that's just a "diagnosis" that basically says one has the runs (or constipation) but the reason remains unknown. The list above may be a good place to start looking.

Every once in a while diarrhea is good for you, because your colon needs to get rid of a lot of stuff. Stuff gets pasted to the colon wall and does not go anywhere, causing cancer. Sometimes it is your bodies way of cleaning itself, and it can be caused by other factors as well as sickness or to many sodas, candy, sweets, to much cake and so and so on. Most people never clean their colon, and if you eat meat, it stays in the colon and can cause cancer, so your body needs to get rid of this stuff. Apple juice and water is a good colon cleanser, drink it to you get diarrhea like 3 glasses plus water, this will clean your colon out. Or you can got to the health store and get colon cleanser, many deceases start because of a dirty colon.
