Great Subject for a thread. :salute

18 Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.”19 Then His mother and brothers came to Him, and could not approach Him because of the crowd. 20 And it was told Him by some, who said, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see You.”

21 But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”
Luke 8:18-21

i like james be a doer of the word not a hearer only if we fail to do what we hear then we see how we really are like our natural man in a mirror

There seems to be more kinds of hearing then this thought. But it still boils down to the same difference. Hearing what God says or looking for something else.

-Critical thinkers: Taking anything and everything into account except what is written in the bible. And interpting the bible that way.

Verses

-Bibical thinkers: Taking what is actually in the bible and compare it to other bible scriptures for more understanding.
________________________

-Spiritual foundations: taking into account spiritual experiences or spiritual theories, like NDEs, answered prayers, supernatural experiences (both Christian and non Christian), and other things like horiscopes and dream interptations. (I'm guilty of looking for many of these throughout my life).

Verses

-Christian church and/or bible foundations. Whether alone or in fellowship taking the bible and the body of the church as your foundation.
____________________________

I'm sure there's other kinds of groupings, but our need of a solid biblical foundation to test anything else is very true.

I think building a Christian Worldview is important, and it takes time and effort. Plus, these efforts occur in the context of a media saturated, fast paced society pushing all kinds of anti-Christian material one's way, 24/7.

2nd Tim 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,
My experience in almost 34 years and many churches and denominations, is that churches tend to feed their desires rather than learn to serve God according to his word.
My church is no different.

every church denomination started out with a God sent vision .they all started out good .but in the end man started shaping it with his
by laws rules etc .a church i will be preaching at last 2 weeks of the month .the denom was spirit filled followed God leading . but soon turn united . ceremony takes preference on allowing the spirit to move . every denom has failed in one way or the other

Amen as sound doctrine has been trampled to the ground as many want their ears tickled with a feel good sermon, but yet lets one empty and void of Gods word.

We need to keep in mind the messages and warnings God gave to the seven Churches in Asia that we need to be the Church of Philadelphia having an ear to hear what the Spirit is speaking to the Church. Rev Chapters 2, 3

Look at the population in broadcast mega-churches. One pastor's church in Texas is a converted sports arena and it is filled to the rafters.
And that pastor is known for never ministering the points of the Gospel, and never mentioning Hell in his sermons. Nor sin.

Feel good doctrine. Be good, love God, and he'll be like Santa all year round and return the faith with material wealth to the faithful.

And these pastors live their talk because they all live enormously rich lifestyles. I looked them up.
Imagine what kind of good they could do instead for the less fortunate that surround their church locations.

I agree.

Pastors are able to accumulate large crowds by teaching what people want to hear.

Teaching you can live in sin as a homosexual or adulterer or a liar, and die in an unrepentant state and still be saved.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 2 Timothy 4:3
