I love U2. Its pretty old, but the music is caalming and soothing, sort of depressing too.

I don't have a CD player BAH! just kidding.

Gordon Peterson's "Hard Sun" and George Harrison's rendition of "It Don't Come Easy".

In my DVD player is the 4th season of Hogans Heroes - apparantly was on tv in 1968 to 1969. My CD player (MP3) player has abou 200 Hits from the 80's from Midge Ure to Rockwell. It also includes the songs from WOW 2001 until 2007.

Listening to Сделан в СССР Олега Газманова (Made in the USSR by Oleg Gazmanov). It is interesting how, no matter a countries history, people manage to take pride in it. I cannot help and pump my fist in the air to the refrain.

Я рожден Советском Союзе!
Сделан Я в СССР!

I was born in the Soviet Union!
I was made in the USSR!

I'm listening to a really nice version of 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen/Jeff Buckley.

The first line goes - I heard there was a secret chord, that David played to please the Lord............

And I once wrote on a blog commentary that if anyone wanted to know what that actually was, it's obedience.

But anyway. Re-think. I think love comes first. When you love, and you love love, you want to obey it. (Even though it's hard sometimes.) I think loving but not obeying (even though you want to) is more powerful then obeying without love.

A given, really. One can create a pharisee and the other mary magdalene. And who won in the end?

Love covers a multitude of sin. (Although faith without works is dead.)

But which is greater..............

1 Cor 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Just musing.

just listening to sons of korah

YouTube - sons of korah - blessed is the man

YouTube - Sons of Korah Psalms 148 0001

It got me thinking a bit more about praise. I've been posting this same thing for years, but it reminded me again, that if you can't say it (or sing it) to God face to face then don't assume the space between heaven and earth is a buffering zone to drown out your words so that they don't matter.

In otherwords we can't sing rubbish to God and expect him to smile. He's convicted me a few times over this. There's some very catchy worship songs out there, but if you can't mean them, it's a pretty big stretch to expect God to pat you on the head over your faithfulness in blatently lying to him with them.

It only hurts our own faith (and of course the overflow that affects others.)

God is God, who do we think we're fooling going along with junk like that? And you can always just sing the parts of the songs that apply and hum the rest, I did that for years in church. But it can put pressure on, when other people realise you're doing it. I'd personally love to dispense with hymns or 'worship' altogether in church, it's just a tradition - unless people stuck solely to singing scripture. At least it's the truth. Over and over I've seen it used as just another tool to indoctrinate people into a churchs denominational theology.

PS. And you can listen to songs just to be uplifted that have positive themes. But to actually sing songs to God, how can we lie and think that he doesn't care?

You have some good points, Sherri, although I disagree with giving up P&W in church. I absolutely can not live without my praise and worship. :) Music is one way that I pray to God, worship him, spend time just in complete adoration towards him. But I certainly agree with you that we must guard our hearts when we listen to music, and when we sing to God we must have a right heart.

I walk around my house singing while I do chores. :lol It has rubbed off on my kids and sometimes we will all be in the kitchen and I realize we are all singing a different song. Haha. It is so beautiful to see my four year old singing praise songs as he puts away the silverware from the dishwasher. :muchlove
