When is doubt good?
When is it harmful?
That's a topic worth exploring.
Some may equate certainty with happiness? I know I'm goin to Heaven. God promised me. I've got my ticket. I feel secure now. Will that feeling of certainty make you a better person? How hard will you try to love your neighbour? Will you feel a need to help the needy?
I think some doubt keeps us on our toes. God's Judgement Day hasn't arrived yet. Don't assume you are one of the good guys. You might be totally deceived. You just might be one of the Pharisees that Jesus was so annoyed with. They were very sure of themselves. Jesus was more impressed with the humble sinner who had no wish to steal the limelight. It seems to me too then, that Jesus was fond of those who doubted themselves and lacked confidence. Who never showed off in public. The less intellectual and more practical.The ones who had no ego about their education or learning. Because the ones who doubt themselves are more likely to listen to Him. The ones who already know everything don't think they need to listen to anyone.
By the way. Would you be happy if you knew the exact day and time of your future death? I'm not sure I would. So its better we don't know these things I believe.
