I'm not setting you up and your post won't be deleted. Your answer is textbook SDA and Reformation type teaching and I understand that, though I have refuted it in the past.

I do allow End Times RCC-related beliefs to be discussed in the End Times Forum because it is a somewhat popular belief.

But if it turns out to spark serious arguing, a Mod will have to step in.

Identifying the harlot as the RCC is not exclusive to the SDA.

I have found the theology of SDA to be seriously erroneous.

I am able to see the harlot as both the Roman empire(historical) and the RCC (futurist).

I have a number of reasons for this opinion, read the following.

Revelations 18

7 To the degree that she glorified herself and lived sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘ I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’

She is supposed to be the only true bride of Christ, the queen waiting for the King of Kings. She will never see mourning, why? Because she is the one true apostolic church. This is a more comfortable reading than the historical view of Rome.

Then this idea is reinforced with another verse.

Revelations 18

“ Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins..."

God's people are within this city? No,within this church of course.

great harlot - Israel's idolatry:

The LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers; and this people will arise and play the harlot with the strange gods of the land, into the midst of which they are going, and will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them. Deuteronomy 31:16 (NASB)

sits on many waters - Israel's two prior diasporas (Assyria/Babylon and Greece under Antiochus IV):

"Water will flow from his [Israel's] buckets, And his seed will be by many waters, And his king shall be higher than Agag, And his kingdom shall be exalted. Numbers 24:7 (NASB)

Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. Acts 2:5 (NASB)

a woman - God's first covenant bride:

I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10 (NASB)

clothed in purple and scarlet - garments of Israel's priesthood:

"These are the garments which they shall make: a breastpiece and an ephod and a robe and a tunic of checkered work, a turban and a sash, and they shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother and his sons, that he may minister as priest to Me. "They shall take the gold and the blue and the purple and the scarlet material and the fine linen. Exodus 28:4-5 (NASB)

adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls - breastplate of Israel's priesthood:

"You shall make a breastpiece of judgment, the work of a skillful workman; like the work of the ephod you shall make it: of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen you shall make it.

"You shall mount on it four rows of stones; the first row shall be a row of ruby, topaz and emerald; and the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and a diamond; and the third row a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst; and the fourth row a beryl and an onyx and a jasper; they shall be set in gold filigree. "The stones shall be according to the names of the sons of Israel: twelve, according to their names; they shall be like the engravings of a seal, each according to his name for the twelve tribes. Exodus 28:15,17-21 (NASB)

a gold cup full of abominations - Jerusalem's sinfulness:

"As for your adulteries and your lustful neighings, The lewdness of your prostitution On the hills in the field, I have seen your abominations. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you remain unclean?" Jeremiah 13:27 (NASB)

Every one of the images in Revelation 17:1-5 is taken straight out of the Old Testament and has nothing whatsoever to do with the Roman Catholic Church or any Christian church that has existed for the past 2,000 years.

It is all about the impending destruction of Jerusalem, Judea, Israel (Samaria) and her priesthood and people!​

Rev. 17:1-5 identifies them! [[OPEN YOUR EYES!;)]] These ones lives lived are in daily print & the false doctrines have been around well past any 120 years of the Holy Spirits STRIVING for change, as seen in Gen. 6:3 with Noah's preaching. And today? See on down below to Josh. 12:7. And when this is so, who is the leader seen in replacement? Rev. 3:9 tell's us! (it matter not what church it is)

[4] And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
[5] And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

It does not take much checking to find a church today which the ex/protestants came from. And this mother is worldwide. And as the days go by... the daughters are joining in to be the.. 'filthiness of her fornication'. And doctrine/wise it matters little, as is seen in Matt. 6:24 UNITY. There will be just these two!

And the compilers caps are there, and all one needs to do is read all of the World News that is daily put before ones eyes about church denominations, to find that God is not there. [Josh. 7 :12 '... because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.'

And what is amazing to me, is that these are the Worlds people 'testifying' & doing this! And where are the Christians above per/say?
