1John1:9,10
IF we confess our sins , He is faithful and just to forgive...
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar.....

Rom.3:25
.....for the remission of sins that are past.....

Joy is directly related to our thinking, this is why Paul redirects our thinking in Philippians, who’s thought had become fleshy oriented. Attitude always precedes action, Paul is giving us cause to think on common ground. How can we rejoice without giving some thought as to what we have to rejoice about. We all have worries and care, but worry never robs tomorrow of it’s sorrow, it only saps today of it’s joy. When we pray, how many of us can be totally content to rest solely in the fact that God knows what is best for us, and then trust him in doing that very thing, even in difficult circumstances, even when we rather things turn out differently, even in the complete absence of what we often call material or physical blessing. God actually desires that we take our cares and concerns to him. It is the avenue that God has given us believers that we might express our trust in him, but he DID NOT give us prayer as an avenue by which we can direct his hand or shape his will. God gave us prayer as an avenue for the expression of our trusting him no matter the circumstance, no matter the outcome of that circumstance. God gave us prayer for the purpose of our peace, he knew how disparate a human mind would need peace. Through prayer a believer is able to release to God their fears, desires, inter-most anxieties while at the same time acknowledging to God that they trust God no matter the outcome of those situations.

hello newnature, dirtfarmer here

Very true post, it is also very detailed. If believers would only apply those truths to their lives, then they could have "all joy"

I have ask before and no one has, can, or will answer: Is 1 John1:9 applicable to those that are in Christ by the new birth? If Christ paid for the sin of the whole world and all our sins, past, present, and future, have been imputed to Christ and Christ's righteousness has been imputed to all that are in the body of Christ, what unrighteousness still applies to the believer that we need cleansing from?
2 Corinthians 5:21 "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
Hi dirtfarmer there
What makes us any different than the unbelievers then?
We must be doers of the Word .
James 1:19-23

The 10 commandments are still valid today.
Love covers them all.
Have you coveted your neighbors house or car, for example?
That is sin.
Bear false witness, lie?
The Spirit that is in you should convict you.
Then you should repent and say, forgive me Lord, and try not to do it again.
Be in good standings.

Judas believed in the Christ.
Peter denied Him 3 times, Luke22:61,62
He wept bitterly. I'm sure he felt ashamed and asked for forgiveness.

1 John 1:9 - “sins” is a Double Metonymy, a figure of speech that replaces the name of a thing with the name of something else with which it is closely associated. A Figure of speech relates to the form in which the words are used. It consists in the fact that a word or words are used out of their ordinary sense, or place, or manner, for the purpose of attracting our attention to what is thus said. A Figure of speech is a designed and legitimate departure from the laws of language, in order to emphasize what is said.

John was writing to the Israelites, but to the necessity of that confession for the Israelites. Ezekiel 36:26-28, when will this national sanctification come to fruition? When Israel is willing to accept Jesus as their messiah and admit they swore falsely when they entered into a covenant with God vowing they could merit a righteous standing before him through their performance.

The confession was indeed called for. It was not about confessing the three lies on Monday and the bad attitude on Wednesday, and the idolatrous thinking on Friday, it was not about any of that. It was not an option testimony in the days of Jesus, it was a requirement for the remission of sins. It was the way people could be identified with the faith associated with the confession of Leviticus 26:40.

Israel was continually being called upon to repent, to change their thinking. John called upon the nation to repent, the 12 called upon Israel to repent, and Jesus called upon the nation to repent, God wanted them to change their thinking about the source of their righteousness and the identity of their Messiah.

I disagree, some what..
It speaks of Christans in general.
1John 1:6
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.
In chapter 2 he insisted that one cannot be a Christian unless his physical life corresponds to that of Jesus.
1 John 2:5,6
No one who is a true Christian can go on living a sinful physical life.
1 John 3:10
Also
3:18
Let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed, and in truth...

That is what you call fellowship,
I do not pray any certain way, while I am speaking to God, I could also say, Lord, forgive me for what I did yesterday, help me with my infirmities, lead me away from temptations.
Help me walk as you walked.

hello dianegcook, dirtfarmer here

The thing that makes us different from unbelievers is that the penalty for our sin has been paid by Jesus Christ. Also sin doesn't have the power to control because Jesus fulfilled the law and made the law obsolete for the believer. 1 Timothy 1:9 states that the law was not made for the righteous man, but for the lawless, and the disobedient, and etc. listed in 9 & 10.

If through Christ's crucifixion the sin of the whole world was paid for, and even our unbelief since we have believed, who is it the condemns (convinces) us of sin? In 1 John 3:20-21 " For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God."
