But it has been pointed out the definite article specified a specific rock

I was just studying Gk articles this morning. Trying to understand for another verse.

Now Matthew 16:18 comes up.
On the scripture4all.com website, this verse is showing "on, this, the (te), Rock, I-shall-be-home-building. The 'the = te,' appears to me to be pointing to 'rock'. This, the, and rock are all in the dative, sing, female.

But even YLT does not apply the 'the' before rock. So what do you think it says? If you will, please?

I struggled with that question awhile back, knowing there was a difference between petra and petros. I always assumed that a rock in Greek was addressed in the feminine, but being Peter, Jesus addressed him in the masculine after the manner (as in character, or whatever) of the rock.

Now according to these articles, the masculine/feminine has even deeper meanings as petros is movable, and petra (feminine) is immovable.

Here's a .pdf read:

Of course Jesus did not say you are Petros and upon Petros I will build my church. Rather he said upon petra I will build my chuch showing a definite distinction even if we removed the movable/immovable adjectives.

Thank you so much! Both of these articles make it very clear. The first is even more valuable as it gives other scripture that bears witness to the one in question.

Blessings
