I know this isn't a deep Christian question, however, with the closure of the politics forum, the creation of a maga forum nowhere in sight, and after several days of fasting, I thought I would throw this one out there. Besides my mother, who makes the best darn burgers? Mickey D's (I'm thinking no)? In-N-Out Burger? Fatburger? Something more expensive maybe? Who do you think makes the best and where is the best value burger?

We men of my Sunday School class are hot on this question.
Burger republic...lots of choices
Backyard Burger... respectable entry
Hardee's is good too for basics
Then there are a ton of "Mom&Pops" sports bars (where we watch games) that we have tried.

The ground beef and other toppings are important...so is the manner it's cooked.
The bun needs to be appropriately sized and not flimsey or lost but not too stiff either.

Many have tried to hand pat out the burgers...and if successful it's the best way to go. The juices get sealed in. Can't beat it. The frozen disks just can't compare. But when failed to properly seal or cook...it's worse than a frozen disks.

Sliders seem to be popular of late...but I've found most of the time the meat is dry and they like to compensate this with extra dressing and toppings to where the beef seems to disappear in them. Sure the sandwich is tasty...but "Where's the BEEF?"

Milkshake to go with?
Or just some iced tea?
Maybe a Soft drink...
Or possibly an adult beverage for the more Methodist. (I'm Baptist so I have to drink alone unless I'm in Europe)

Steak &Shake has the shake but their burgers are bottom rated. Fries are fair at best.

John, you definitely sound like a burger connoisseur of sorts. I haven't tried Hardee's before but maybe I will now. We do have a few here in Canada as far as I know. There is a Canadian west coast restaurant chain (White Spot) that makes some good burgers if you are ever in this neck of the woods.

A short distance into my woods we have a stone fireplace grill. I cook with oak mostly on that with occasionally other firewoods like hickory or even beech.
I don't do much with the burgers other than salt and pepper.
It's all about the wood smoke. They are delicious.
I cook other meats too. Always comes out great.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries!!
Five guys do have decent burgers...
But the fries are the best.
My son and I like going and splitting the big one... neither one of us needs the fries... but we like them anyway.
And it's great father-son time.

Actually I was (in my youth) a chef.
I understand the mechanics and science and art to great food.
Great food doesn't have to be fancy or made from obscure ingredients to be wonderful. It just needs to be done properly. Some of the best dishes came from household kitchens done in a rustic fashion...tart tatin is a prime example.
A cast iron skillet, apples, sugar, butter and a pie crust are all that's needed. Because when you don't own a pie tin and don't have enough time to bake a cobbler...it's a great solution.
Burgers can be done really well and easily if care is taken. And it doesn't have to "break the bank" either.
All the ingredients together to make the beef the "star" of the sandwich. To have some great fries to go with to break up the monotony...and a wonderful beverage to wash it all down.
Then all you need is some company to complete a wonderful memory that will last a lifetime.

It's not as easy as it looks... otherwise everyone would have memorable burgers. But obviously...
Whataburger has got to be one of the worst for places to eat lately. Lack of condiments, soggy bun, poor service, grease everywhere, and cold to lukewarm food. We will never go back.
Used to be decent...but no longer.

If you happen to find a McDonald's that is being properly run...their food is edible...but you taste it for hours long afterwards due to all the processing and artificial ingredients. But it's a corporation... consistency is their thing...just like Taco Bell. Used to be great back when they actually did have a bell and used coconut oil to deep fry everything. (Softshell tacos weren't there) I actually have eaten at one way back when.

Actually though...
The Western Sizzler used to have a great burger...one of the best. They used wood and gas for their grill, great beef and buns as well.
They have long since gone away from those roots if there are any left.

I'll recant my last statement and put this one ahead for sure.

You're in the minority about the burgers, so clearly you're wrong. :cool2

I only go there a few times a year, because I feel like I need my arteries flushed out when I'm done. The fries are the best for sure! Fresh cut, and they always pile more in the bag. Of course, we're all in agreement that we must soak fresh-cut fries with vinegar. That's a given.

Their burgers lack a decent bun... sorry but they don't cut it.

Vinegar is good...I prefer a better quality malt vinegar than they provide...but hey, it's a fast food shack.
Their ketsup is adequate as well.

Every place I've been has good and less-than-good qualities.

There's nothing quite like the search for perfection though.

Ready for my knap...
Wow, that was good. Had to keep it in the foil so all the stuff didn't fall out, which made the bun soggy at the end.
Aside from that, I think I may just like Red Robin a smooch better.... depending on the day of the week and the alignment of Jupiter with Pluto. Oh yeah, and the color of my socks.

That looks great. I don't think I have ever had a five guys burger but I'm seeing one in my future now!

Like I said before...
Wimpy bun...needs improvement.
