Why are some atheists so afraid of Christianity? Why are they so opposed to Jesus Christ when many do not believe He ever existed? If they are convinced that God is a hoax and that their atheism is correct, why do they get scared when Jesus or the Bible is mentioned? If they don't have anything to hide, why run? If they don't want Jesus, they can say no.

Re: Why are atheists so afraid of Christianity?

Well my immediate answer would be that Christianity poses a threat to their 'religion'. If Christianity grows, so does their opposition to atheism, and they don't want that.

It does indeed pose a threat, but no other religion that I know deems threatening to them. Only Christianity seems to really offend atheists. Perhaps that is because it chaps their hyde and in the back of their minds, they know there is a possibility of God's existance but are too prideful to admit it. Doesn't the Bible say that in the last days, there will be those who are willingly ignorant? That means "dumb on purpose".

Re: Why are atheists so afraid of Christianity?

Thats a loaded question. Many atheists don't care. If you want to ask why any atheist is afraid, use a specific person.

This thread is the equivalent of asking an atheist board?

"Why are Christians so afraid of Atheists?"

The entire premise only is valid if all atheists are afraid of Christians, there are a ton of Levey Satanists and Buddhists who could care less ( both of those are atheist religions that are focused on philosophy rather then dogma).

Dave, have you ever sat down and talked to a group of atheists, that wasn't either an attempt to proselytize or prove your point? I get a vibe from all your threads that you either don't know much about your own religion, or you just want to prove others wrong.

Yes, I have sat down and spoken with atheists a number of times and they all seem to be threatened by Christianity. I rephrased my original question to save the risk of generalizing. I changed it to:

"Why are (some) atheists so afraid of Christianity?"[/quote:2mm77prf]Most are afraid of Extreme right Fundamentalists Christian conservatives rather then the entire religion. Many Atheists enjoy their freedom to not believe in the the God of Abraham. Some on the far right feel it is their duty to ignore the first amendment and force Christian Morality on everyone. The Atheists want to keep their freedoms so they fight back.

To be quite honest both sides need to stop fighting each other and leave each other alone.

As it says in Mathew 10:14.

Just out of curiousity, are you a believer?

Agnostic Theist, with allot of respect for Christianity, Buddhism, and other religions of peaceful natures.

I actually spend allot of my time defending Christianity on boards that are filled with militant Atheists and rebellious teens that just need something to whine about.

My only problem with certain Christians is that quite a few either don't know the very teaching they are supposedly following, or forget that the USA is a melting pot, where even though Christianity is the most popular religion, it isn't the mandatory religion, and others must be respected.

Christians don't have to believe or agree with everyone else, but they must remember that this isn't just their country.

melting pot wow ,lance, someone of your age taught that i'm suprised even in ole conservative florida that no longer taught now its a pluralism or mulitcultarism, and i agree some atheist are afraid.

Dave, I believe it's all about a refusal to give up control.

As long as someone believes God does not exist, then they are in control of their own lives and can do what 'seems right' or not.

I think there are various reasons.

Non-believers are affraid of the limitations of enjoying life brought on by a strict Christian life-style.
They also have the impression that Christians are ignorant and narrow minded and they are affraid of becoming sheep.

And the biggest fear I think they have is of being judged or condemned. Even as a Christian I have the same amount of fear of attacks from fellow Christians than I do from atheists. Most Christians have a very self-righteous attitude. Usually the first message a non-believer gets is that of judgement and sin and not about the love of God.

Atheists...afraid? That is an interesting concept. Have known a few to feel as though Christians were a bit intimidating in terms of the manner in which it has become a common practice for many within the church to eagerly practice condemnation of people of differing beliefs. Be they their own brothers and sisters in Christ or otherwise.
