Good question. But if you had to drink any, I'd go with the raw milk variety from a cow that is not stressed out. As it now stands, I don't drink milk, but I do eat butter and cheese.

Again, it's the processing, not milk, per se, that is a problem. And note this paragraph in the article:

The only thing that makes me believe that raw milk is still worthy of consumption is that government policy is so much against it. Anything public officials try and convince us against is usually very good for us and vice-versa. However, that could also be due to the natural competition raw milk offers to the pasteurized milk industry which the government supports…and the higher-ups hate competition.
The author then goes on to state other forms of milk that may be better, but then again, all I say is watch the processing, and I won't say any more on that.

I used to drink milk a lot when I was much younger, but I have increasingly become a little lactose intolerant. Now I just use it when eating cold cereal, but don't drink the remainder when I am finished with the cereal.

Anytime I drink milk now-a-days I get an uncomfortable bout of indigestion.

I hear goats milk is better. I don't drink much milk. A dash in the coffee is all and once in awhile milk and cookies, yum.

That's true, and is also the milk used in the bible days. I guess it's more like human milk. I won't fault you for it in your coffee or cookies once in awhile. I'm more referring to those who drink it by the glass fulls per day. There's been this idea now for many years that a kid "needs" so many glasses a day, and to make it worse, they are now recommending skim and low fat milk! For a kid! That's taking even more vital nutrients away until between the pasteurizing and nutrient removal it basically becomes sugar water--- and sugar we can't digest well at that!

There is nothing bad with drinking milk, sure over consumption of milk can lead to bad effects, but this is true for most foods.
Apple seeds is also extremely good for you, eat 1l of it in one go and you can die though.

Milk from cows is one of the blessings God has given us and has enabled us to build civilization as we know it. Milk can be stored as cheese and yoghurt and many other products, it is nutrinial and beneficial. I.e if you want to build muscle mass fast and not eat tons of beef or chicken then drink 1,5liter of milk everyday and pump iron 4 times a week and you build muscle mass like crazy its awesome.

Coffee is only bad if you let it control you, for example if I don't drink coffee for one day I get a headache, I need to change it but i'm weak when it comes to coffee.

So you can keep staying away from your milk, that just means more milk for me :)

(I dont know much about FDA processing regulation, but something tells me the FDA wants all nutrients out, and many syntethic chemicals in. You americans really need to get your government in order)

I do want to point out something, though. If one has to drink milk, especially for growing kids, then drink whole milk, fat and all.

This anti-fat mantra has gotten way out of control, and it's not the fats making people fat, at least not saturated fats found in animal products. Most fats in junk food are the polyunsaturated kinds (vegetables oils) that are processed. Plus, it's the other fillers in processed foods. But as I mentioned ad nauseum, it seems they can't distinguish junk carbs and fats from those occurring naturally, so they label everything bad, including those found naturally in foods.

Human breast milk is loaded with saturated fats, and in the vegetable line so is coconut oil. Look how they demonized coconuts and egg yolks for years (they are fruits and natural foods for cryin' out loud) not something in the same class as junk foods. So--- if kids are going to drink milk, what's the reasoning for going from mommy's saturated fat breast milk to to the push for fat-free sugar water milk in schools? There is none except merely making food into a political agenda without a stitch of valid scientific fact to support their view. Sometimes I wonder if the vegan agenda is not partly behind this, but that's another thread for another time.

Because it tastes good! Especially Lactaid. :chin

I think I have lactose intolerance, but it seems to come and go. Like for several months last year I couldn't eat or drink any dairy products without indigestion and stuff, so I had to start taking lactase supplements. (Which did help, when I remembered to take them.) Then after a while milk didn't seem to cause problems anymore. But then the lactose intolerance started to come back.
Weird.

the intake of a cup of natural milk with oat flakes just before bedtime can facilitate the falling asleep and better the sleep

Blessings

Well, for all you soy lovers, you should read this entire web page: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/a...ecret-hidden-in-much-of-your-health-food.aspx

Well soy in general is healthy, or at least doesn't do harm, when eaten in moderation and when processed and prepared the right way. Well it's true that soy milk isn't a perfectly good nutrient, but I'm not very worried about a splash of soy milk in my coffee twice a day. But I'm gonna try spelt milk as a vegan milk alternative now.
However that web page is totally right warning about genetically modified soy. Noone should buy or eat that stuff, because of the unforeseeable physiological effects on your body, and also because of the unforeseeable ecological impact of genetically altered agricultural plants.
Maybe if in 40 years we know 100% certain that genetically manipulated plants have no negative effect on our health or on our environment I will change my mind, but until then I buy organic soy only.

I drink milk, need the protein.
Can't afford goats' milk or I'd have it because it is available.
Lots of stuff I can't afford, just do the best I can.
We all have preferences in life.

I recall that in the former Soviet Union Mr Gorbachev's hard-drinking rivals were supposed to have despised him for drinking milk...

I wouldn't drink American milk due to the hormones and other additives, but I do drink a fair bit of milk for the protein and calcium. And a shot of chocolate syrup never hurts either.

Then what do you drink instead, beer, wine, and really hard stuff (it's in the Bible)?
Water, all kinds of tea, juice, coffee (with soy milk). And occassionally some wine.

Naturally mammals drink milk when they are babies and become lactose intolerant as they grow up, because their body ceases to produce the enzyme needed to process lactose. Some time during human evolution some of our European and western Asian ancestors had a genetic variant that made their bodies continue producing lactase (the lactose processing enzyme) throught their adolescence and adulthood. Those individuals had much greater chances to survive in those areas of the world where humans held domestic cattle, because in times of food scarcity they could cover some of their caloric needs by drinking the milk of their cattle. Thus the lactose tolerance genes had better chances to be passed on than the lactose intolerance genes and so we see 90% lactose tolerance in adults of european ancestry, but close to 0% among native Americans and southern Africans where no cattle farming existed until European influence introduced it.

There are evoluionary advantages of drinking cow milk. It's a source of fat, proteine and calcium.
However, most of us live in a society where food is abundant and we can get more than enough of those things from sources other than cow milk.
If we'd live in a situation where nutrition can get scarce cow milk might actually be a very healthy food to consume.

Edit: fixed the posting by merging both posts into one, gonna delete the other one.

Rats, I accidentially hit the post button before I finished the sentence. And I still don't have an edit button. :-(

Wow Claudya, I didn't know you were an evolutionist.
How come I can tolerate lactose?
