Why three days and three nights ?

I was recently helping my father in law move a cooker, i had put it on a sack barrow, when i went to lift it, larger than your usual cooker it feel forward onto its front, breaking the oven handle, and the glass came out,

took him 3 days to repair, from broken to repaired,

3 days i wonder why Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a whale, large fish,

and Jesus was three days and three nights in the heart of the earth Mathew 12 -
39/40

why three days and three nights why not one day or two , why three ?

The number 3 in God's Word always represents Jesus Christ. Here are a few examples:

1. 3 times a voice from heaven spoke to Him.

2. The wise men brought Him 3 gifts.

3. He was tempted 3 times in the wilderness, where He replied "It Is Written" 3 times (He IS the Word; John 1:1)

4. Jesus brought 3 - 1) PETER, 2) JAMES 3) JOHN - with Him upon the Mount of Transfiguration, where they witnessed 3: 1) JESUS 2) MOSES 3) ELIJAH

5. He is 1) THE WAY 2) THE TRUTH 3) THE LIFE.

6. He prayed 3 times at the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-45).

7. Peter denied Him 3 times.

8. There were 3 crucified at Calvary.

9. There were 3 hours of darkness when He was crucified.

10. He was in the tomb 3 days and 3 nights

11. The 1) FATHER 2) SON 3) HOLY SPIRIT – Trinity.

12. Jesus was 33 years old when He was crucified, following His 3 year ministry, which began when He was 30 years old.

13. There were 3 feast days 1) PASSOVER 2) PENTECOST 3) TABERNACLES - all symbolic of the coming "Passover Lamb" who would "tabernacle" with man (John 1:14, 1 Corinthians 5:7).

14. The focal point of God's Creation is on the 3RD PLANET from the sun; the very planet on which the Son of God 'tabernacled" (John 1:14).

Jesus raised 3 people from the dead during His earthly ministry:

1. The widow's son.
2. Jairus' daughter.
3. Lazarus.

Awesome. :thumbsup

The main reason for the 3 is that it was (and is) Hebrew custom to believe that a person wasn't truly dead until after 3 days....that the soul lingered near the body for 3 days... which is also why Christ waited to raise Lazarus...to prove the power of God in resurrection from the dead, and not just a rejoining of the soul and body.

Because a day is as 1,000 years and Jesus will be coming back in the third millenium. (which we have entered upon):shrug

Ah, excellent point. :thumbsup

The Jews have held on to their culture and customs like no other people, and they've recorded it all the way back to Creation. They're truly like a golden thread running throughout history.

Oops..... His Story, I should have said. :)

ok, we arent in the third millenium in that context.

and i should post the jewish years as they do it way different. three is the number of the earth. When my grandfather and uncle past the jewish belief of the soul floating for three days was taught that is why i believe jesus was raised after the third day. To show that he did indeed die.
