Why was Christ's death on the cross "righteous"?

Just to clarify, I myself am a Christian.

Having said that, what I've been mulling over lately is why Christ's death was "right". I understand that it was a necessary event-- because of his death, we can live healthy, blessed, prosperous lives without living under the constant condemnation that comes with the sinful nature of man (John 1:29 primarily comes to mind). Because of Christ, we can boldly enter the throne room of grace and ask what we will of the Father, and expect to have our requested answered in love (Hebrews 4:14-16).

I know that his death was necessary to reconcile God to His people. To me and you. And please don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the sacrifice.

What I find myself wrestling with is that idea that it was "righteous" of God to do so. It blows my mind to think that taking not just a good man, but His Son, the only true perfect man, and killing him because it's the "right thing to do". I remember the Old Covenant sacrifices of never offering animals with defect or blemish, and I understand that Christ was the end-all sacrifice for that (a parallel and foreshadowing of His death on the cross), so we don't have to bring bulls and sheep into our Sunday masses.

Here is this sinless, perfect man, and God kills Him off. Sends him to not only die on a cross, an already excruciatingly painful way to die, but also to be publicly mocked, humiliated, beaten and flogged to the point of disfiguration. I have a lot of issues seeing this as the "right and perfect" thing to do.

So, in short, I know why Christ had to die. But why can anyone call it "right"? Is the scope of this simply too big for my mind, or does anyone else find themselves blown away by God's righteousness here?

Any thoughts or comments on the issue would be great for helping to lift the fog.:biggrinunno

Hebrews 2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

I think the act of the Father giving up His Son for us and the Son laying His life aside for us, can be considered righteous because it fulfills the greatest of all God's commandments..."Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbor as yourself." What greater love can there be than to love us sinners enough to send His sinless Son to die on our behalf?

the Son Obeyed Abba. that is what 'Righteousness' is. He obeyed Perfectly. He tells those who want to be His Own to do the same. society added a word not in the original, btw >> 'chairty' (sic). yep. it's not in the Bible. "Righteousness" is. to give to someone generously when they cannot repay; to give to a neighbor, brother, friend, fellow-countryman, family, child in need is not 'charity' in Scripture (as if the giver is doing anything extra beyond what Yhwh Sovereign King says to do) but simply "righteous" i.e. doing what is right, as Yhwh says to do.. at the end of the day, we at most can only say "I have simply done my duty as a servant ought to do" . (will find it later if someone else doesn't first)
Righteousness has nothing to do with feelings, emotions, or anything good within a person(as if the clay deserves 'credit' for what the Potter has molded).
It is right to be righteous, Yhwh willing and Yhwh providing all to accomplish this in the Messiah Yeshua, Who was Perfectly Obedient, Perfectly Righteous without any sin, until He was hung on a living tree with criminals and became sin for us, to do away with the power of sin over us once and for all time(yes, I know --- 'Scripture' ... will have to look it up shortly when there is time. perhaps others already have it , as all of Scripture as a Whole Complete Word is Pertinent all together).

here's a bit though >
Isaiah 29:9-13

New International Version (NIV)

9 Be stunned and amazed,
blind yourselves and be sightless;
be drunk, but not from wine,
stagger, but not from beer.
10 The Lord has brought over you a deep sleep:
He has sealed your eyes (the prophets);
he has covered your heads (the seers).

11 For you this whole vision is nothing but words sealed in a scroll. And if you give the scroll to someone who can read, and say, “Read this, please,” they will answer, “I can’t; it is sealed.” 12 Or if you give the scroll to someone who cannot read, and say, “Read this, please,” they will answer, “I don’t know how to read.”

13 The Lord says:

“These people come near to me with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me
is based on merely human rules they have been taught.[a] ... ... ...

(mankind's use and history of religion)

"Right" in the Bible does not necessarily equal Morally acceptable to human consensus...

It was right because a man had to live a sinless life to free the human race from bondage to Satan as lord...as a sinless man they killed him, but death is the consequence of sin and He had none so death could not hold Him

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 And deliver ( to snatch away, rescue, save) them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

God said "eat of that tree and you will die" I feel it was a test of obedience. When Adam failed, God told Adam how to be in right standing again, God, in the garden, Shed blood to cover sin and shame. God made a covenant with Adam, Obey ME, make the sacrifices, and one day the Messiah will come. God; Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and Jesus a man the GOD/MAN made good that promise, God paid the price of my sin.
The GOD/MAN of Jesus is hard to understand, that Jesus was totally GOD and totally men is a mystery. It was God's will He did it. Do not think of Jesus as just a man even the most holy man ever to live. Jesus was God and man. Jesus was God's purpose to pay the debt we could not pay, and provide salvation to us all. I do not understand it all but I thank GOD for it daily.

Why was Christ's death on the cross "righteous"?
Because it was God's righteous provision for the unrighteousness of men. It was the Lamb of God who took away the sin of the world.

the cross was payment for our sins..the ultimate perfect sinless sacrifice . he became sin who knew no sin that we might became the righteousness of God. the real victory is in the Resurrection---->eternal life
Hebrews 2 : 9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. 10In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting for God, for whom and through whom all things exist, to make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11 For both the One who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are of the same family. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.…

hello Blight Purged, dirtfarmer here

God has decreed; " The soul that sinneth it shall die." Ezekiel 18:20 This is not physical death but spiritual death. Because of Adam's disobedience we are all sinners and therefore spiritually dead. It is not until spirit is separated from soul that we have a God conscience. Hebrews 4:12 speaks of the dividing asunder of the soul and spirit. Romans 8:16 , " The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit that we are children of God." This witnessing can only happen when our spirit has been separated from the soul and made conscientious of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 " And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly: and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The union of God and man, conceived of the Holy spirit in Mary and brought forth as Jesus, is the perfect sacrifice to pay the sin debt of the whole world. In order for man to received this salvation, he has to have faith in Christ, otherwise he will die a physical death as an unbeliever and be eternally damned.
