Seeing as he is so desperate for us to all acknowledge his existence and sent prophet upon prophet to us benighted humans through the centuries to ensure this, why wont he then provide us with a little proof.

Even Jesus had trouble explaining this away and ended up saying "have faith". Why does God seem to want to stay hidden ? Surely if we all knew of his existence then noone or least very few of us would sin. Is this not what Gods intends ?

:sad :gah

Funny, I see God all around me everyday.

Even when people saw the miracles of Jesus with their own eyes, they did not believe.

I haven't seen anyone prove that God does not exist. :study

What would convince people that God exists? People explain away many things for what they prefer to believe.

God was with those in the desert, a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Yet, they too were a "stiffnecked people" and chose to transgress against God.
Christ performed many miracles right in front of the people and yet many didn't believe.
The Pharisees saw His miracles and still they sought to kill Him.
I don't believe modern day people would be any different. In fact, I think they would be even more apt to disbelieve and rely on their faith in technology to provide a more suitable explanation.

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Luke 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

John 14:8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

John 6:36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

John 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Sam,

Welcome to the board. The Lord bless you.

We are saved by grace through faith. God has given us an abundance of proof, but satan has also given us an abundance of deception. When you place your faith in God, and live your life in that faith, then the proof becomes overwhelming. It's like when a person is blind, they have to trust what others are teaching/telling them about this world. If someone tells them wrong, that distorted information could hurt them...this is what the deceiver does. We come to God in this condition, because our thoughts have been shaped in deceit...we've been given wrong information that hurts us. God is telling us that things are not as they appear, and He gives us the Truth in His Word. When we trust Him to be our guide so we do not stumble through, but we can walk in the confidance of His Word and Truth...the more we walk, the more our faith and trust grow. Once we put our faith in Him, He opens our eyes. Faith is the key to placing your trust in Him. That's why you hear believers saying that they see evidence everywhere, because through faith they trusted God, and now their eyes can see it very clearly, and they can walk in the Light.

Think about Hebrews 11....
1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

We have to believe in Him, so that we can walk with Him, and only then can the things we hope for, and He promises, be realized. I hope this helps, the Lord bless you.

Dear Samspade, welcome to the forums. :) I shared your question with a friend of mine and he asked that I share his response with you.

"What proof does this person demand? Contrary to this person's assertions, God has done everything out in the open. He hasn't stayed hidden. I would argue that even if such proof as this person demanded were demonstrated with out a doubt, this person would still find an excuse to ignore it and not submit to it. In reality, God has clearly shown us He exists. Just look at the created order. The life and ministry of Christ. The problem is not one of a lack of evidence, but a heart that actively rebels against God and suppresses the evidence that is clearly seen. He has a spiritual heart problem, not one of a lack of evidence. Throw that at him and see what he says."

I have been at this a long time and I have heard this question many times. I am pleased you are asking. However as I see most post do answer this question very well I will say my :twocents .
It takes more faith to believe God does not exist then it does to believe He does.

God DOES prove His existence by everything we see, none of which could exist without Him. How can anyone look at a meadow full of beautiful flowers and not see God's handiwork there? How can anyone see a sunrise or a sunset and not see a great masterpiece of God? How can anyone see a newborn baby and not see a miracle of God there? There are so many things that speak of His existence all around us. All we need do is open our eyes and mind and see His many great wonders and know that He is real!

Mankind takes the miracles of God and puts them in simple terms that he can understand and accept. They look at God's greatest creation--the human body--and see evolution. An unborn baby to them is just a lifeless mass that can be destroyed at will. However, the same people get very upset if someone aborts unborn puppies. They wonder how they got here on earth, why they're here, where they go after death and ignore God's answers to their questions.

God speaks in many ways, but mankind is too deaf to hear. God is visible in many ways, but mankind is too blind to see. Man in his own limited wisdom thinks he is his own god, and that he controls his own destiny. What man cannot explain he attributes to the supernatural (ghosts) or to space aliens. Very few ever think, "This is the work of God." The only time God is considered is to blame Him for the world's suffering, when man brings it all upon himself by refusing to believe and trust IN God and believe and obey His words.

I agree. :yes

And not only that, but I wonder how can anyone breath and not think it is a miracle gift from God? Also, How can anyone not even consider the fact that they have a mind to think and reason unlike any other animal on this earth and not even consider the fact that that too is a gift from God. We think, we breathe, we live. Life itself IS a Gift FROM GOD.

To take all these things and life for granted and not give credit to Creator God, THAT, to me is astounding.

Yes, God shows himself to us in EVERYTHING we are willing to allow Him to show us. Freedom of will does require our co-operation and our submisison to the Will of God over our own selfish will. :yes

When we let go and Let God, that is when our eyes begin to see His Glory of Holy Spirit shine through in everything.

Sorry to some of you folks, but when I am moved to write I just sometimes can't find what I should leave out of the text. So, for those of you who don’t like the positng can just move on....For those of you who appreciate it, then I’m glad you got something out of this.
:) God Bless.

samspade,

How often do you read the bible?
Are you presently involved in a bible study of any sort?

In the following text you will see a few examples of what some people have discovered when they have given time to make a habit of reading and studying the scriptures diligently, in the bible... Once they have done so and learn of the things of God, most don't ever wonder again or ask why He isn't showing himself. :yes

Only those who are willing to allow God to show them will be able to see. If anyone closes themself off to the studying of Holy Scripture they will miss out on revelation of the things of God. How can a person get to know anyone if they don't spend time with them? Answer is....They can't.

So, IF someone wants to grow in knowing the Lord, they have to spend time in doing so by reading the Word that reveals the Truth. Once they have learned what is deception and what is truth, they will not be confused about the presence of God being anywhere or doubt at all about the truth that He IS creator of All things. Our free will is a gift from God. How we use it is not without consequences relevant to the choices made.
There is good and bad in life. We are advised to choose the things which produce life, the things that are revealed in the Godly life. That is what makes all the difference in our life. If we choose things that are of the negative, things that are of "bad" ungodly, destructive, then that's what will be the result. God created the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of Good and evil. It is our choice. Jesus came to redeem us from the damage done by the first Adam. Adam was negligent in watching out for the welfare of his wife, Eve, He didn't stop her from sin but he participated in it with her. Jesus came to redeem us from all that, Jesus is NOT negligent but came to show us how to overcome the talk of the devil, the things of this world. THAT is revealing himself to us in so many ways. In ways that lead us to saving us from committing to sin. He came to separate us from sin, to show us the way to Life. The life that Adam and Eve first had in the garden but got kicked out of because of that fall. They tripped up, but Jesus came so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. Choose the life Jesus wants to bless you with. Doubt not, Fear not. Have faith.... Believe.... Trust. That's part of what He told his disciples, but they didn't get it right all the time. For one example, Peter didn't go into his ministering until after he denied Christ three times. Paul was a Jew who persecuted the followers of Christ, Paul didn't go into his ministering until he was struck by the Holy Spirit on the side of the road. Think about that.... God is a forgiving God. We all have chance to be redeemed from our sins, to go and sin no more. To walk in the light of the Holy Spirit rather than the lies of the devil spirit. Choice.... brings whatever revelation. Choose the things that lead to the negative and that's what is revealed to us. choose the things of the positive Holy Spirit and that's what is revealed to us. The things of God. choose life. the things that lead to the life Christ came to show us, He came to show us how to overcome the devilish, the deceptive things, the things that are not of God, those things around us that do us harm, Jesus came to show us how to overcome them all! Get it? God reveals himself through the good works of the Holy Spirit through us. It is not by our own might that we do these things, it is by the "indwelling" power of the "Holy Spirit" that we have invited into our lives. The Holy Spirit is real. You can't get to know Him IF you don't read about the attributes and Character of Him through the reading of the Word of God. Trust the Word, Faith comes by hearing the Word, Speak it out loud and let it become a part of your life. You will be changed for the better. It's a good lesson of life!

No other teaching will show you what the bible has to teach. The bible is that only book. Why do you think other religions try to get rid of it. because they know it is intimidating to their lies. and their religions of hate and oppression. Selfish man does not want to learn the truth about God. They want to be like Satan and rule themselves. Selfishness never does anyone any good, not even the person being selfish. God reveals all that to us through His Character, His Truths. Get it? God is the revealer of all that is Truth, AND all that is come to deceive. The more you get to know Him through personal relationship with Him, by reading the Word, Holy Spirit in you will reveal that truth to you. You must first accept Holy Spirit to come indwell in you. That means you give up your old sinful nature and give it to Christ on the Cross. The burden is lifted from you. All you need do is confess your sins, and accept Holy Spirit into your life to create in you a new born creature in Christ Jesus. If you have already done so, then you need to not neglect study. Even Jesus studied (as our living example in the flesh) the Scriptures. So then, we must study scripture also. Jesus quoted the old testament over and over again. The old testament was veiled, hidden from many, However, The new Testament is the old testament revealed. Jesus Christ tore that veil to reveal Himself in the Truth to us. The book of Isaiah predicted the coming of Christ Jesus. This was and still is hidden to those who have not accepted Christ Jesus as the savior.

Here are just a few studies for ya: :)

Click link:Read The Book of John.
Click link:]Read The Book of Isaiah.
Click link:Read the books of Psalms.
Those books give you plenty to think about. The more you study the bible the more you will know about the Truth that is revealed by the Lord.
Click link: Learn about the Character and the Attributes of God Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
There are so many studies available online.
Click link: Here are just a few of The Names of Godwhich are a marvelous means of His revealing Himself to us.

Don’t know if you have accepted Jesus into your life or not, but IF not, now is the time to accept Holy Spirit to come live in your life and be leader, teacher and guide of it. You will not regret it. You will grow to be a better person for it. In due process and in due time. :) Amen. :)

Not only does He reveal Himself in the creation of the material things around us, He reveals Himself to us through things we can't see, Spiritual things, Character, Integrity, Virtue, etc. He reveals himself to us through his Glory shining through. Victory over evil, Christ our example of overcoming the things of this world. The things that come to steal, kill and destroy... Christ Jesus overcame all that for us. He is our living example. We too can overcome the things of this world through Christ Holy Spirit in and through us. Read the New testament to learn that God reveals himself to us through Christ Holy Spirit. He did it all for us. He came so that we might live IN His Holy Spirit, to receive His Holy Spirit. We no longer live in the old sin nature, the old self, but are born again into the Holy Spirit, that same Holy Spirit that is in Christ Jesus, God come to redeem us from our sins. IF that isn't revealing Himself to us, I don't know what is. We are gifted. He come to bless us with His Love. Not our human selfish type love, but His Agape Love. Are you ready to accept Christ Love? When we fall Holy Spirit comes to pick us up and help us overcome the sin that tripped us up. Holy Spirit will not leave you alone to sin unless you turn your back on him and deny Him. Don't deny Him, accept Him into your life to be the leader of your life from hear on. Let Jesus be Lord of your life and you will see more and more of His Holy Spirit come through to reveal to you all that Is of Him. Holy Spirit of God IS willing to teach you, are you willing to be taught?

It doesn't really matter if God stood before you in all his glory, if you want to sin, or live your own life you'll deny his presence and believe what you will. The very complexity of life testifies to the existence of God. His praises are ushered on the lips of the wind. His Warming love can be felt on a hot summers day. The very breath of nature worships Him from moment to moment. He's given us a beautiful world and still they deny his existence rather crediting His works to random events of evolution. As someone else said it takes more faith to deny God then to believe.
