Reba,
My HP and my Lenovo T400 Lap Top both crashed under Windows Ten, the HP Desk Top crashed under three trials. Please, if you don't know how to burn a Dvd into a startup Disc, get one of the people close to you to download a copy of the latest release of Linux Mint and tell them to get the copy with the Cinnamon Desk Top to make the transition from Windoze to Linux almost painless. Cinnamon handles much like windoze but without the crashes, blue screens of death and without the worms, trojans nor the viruses. And if you do not like it, have someone burn a back up disc before you install the Mint and you can go back if you wish.

But with Mint and the Cinnamon Desk Top the learning curve is almost flat.
BLUE SCREENS OF DEATH!!
:hysterical :hysterical :hysterical

Thanks. I needed that!

Oh, and if your computer is new within the last five years, have them download the 64bit version and write it to a cheap 4 to 8 gig Flash Drive. Then you plug the Flash Drive into a USB port and boot the machine from it and you can test to see if you can deal with it without harming your windows installation. I just purchased five eight gig flash drives on ebay for 12 dollars. They are very handy and they are cheap.
Hey Taylor,
I usually understand what you're talking about.

Could you switch back to English, please??
Ditto for post 7 !!

I would just stick with Windows 10. I have not had any problems with it. It does take a little getting used, but then what OS doesn't have a learning curve? If your computer originally came with Windows 8, 8.1, or 7 it should be able to handle 10 just fine.
"IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE 10 JUST FINE"

Handle? Hmmm.
I think this is a trick statement!

(when I have to "handle" something - it's never good)

No...those are ROM...like DVD, CD or blue ray drives. And I used to use mag cards, 5" floppy (because they did bend) and the 2" floppy and zip drives. Even cassette tapes.
Just kidding JohnDB. I like going back to the past every now and then - things seemed simpler...

I was talking about this just the other day.
Software has drastically changed. Hardware has too. Much faster and tons of memory and graphics that are unbelievable.

Back in the day,
My father worked on the prototype line where they developed methods for mass production of hard drives. All the drives we use today were developed and designed in the '70's and early '80's. Shortly after the lunar landings. But the products were shelved as there weren't any devices to put them in.

There are a few products left on that shelf.

It's been interesting to watch all the developments.
Gel memory is coming. How and what it goes into will be interesting.... Also the diamond tech. It will exponentially increase current processing speed 10 fold.
Transmission speeds are going to get more expensive. (Internet speeds)

Sooo...just watching.

Isn't online storage (like the Cloud?) more susceptible to hackers?
I have Windows 8 and it's okay. Looks more like an iPad and the change from Vista or 7 is too dramatic, but you get used to it.
However, I also keep getting notices to upgrade to W 10. It does make me wonder why.
Could we go back to 3.1?? It was nice. I had full control of everything. It was slow though and couldn't handle sound well, so forget about going back!!
What about the hacker possibility?

Wondering
Any time you remote anything you increase people like me can hack your unit. There are thousands of hackers that have never been White Hat hackers but have, going in at college, yeilded to the Black or Evil side they are taught in college.

Also, anybody running Windows 8 and up has the standard DOS Hole and the Invisible Root Kit installed by MS and developed by the NSA and MS. All in all, great reasons to jump the Windows Ship.

And Linux is still the best choice for geeks but with over a thousand flavors and almost all of them free, Linux has moved over to the Children's Computer and everybody can operate many of the different flavors.

Reba,
I got a new computer this winter. Last one had too many problems and I've learned that they cannot be fixed.
I think there's an expiration date on computers! They just won't print it! About 7 to 8 years. I many be wrong, but it's been my experience.

So I have Windows 8. This thing is begging me to go to Windows 10. It'll do me the favor for free. Imagine that! I've been asking myself why I have to keep reading that window almost every morning. But, I've learned not to trust Microsoft 100%. Although they did do us a big favor when the translated DOS. I worked with that in the late 80's and I had notes all over my desk just to remember the commands.

So yeah. WHY are they trying to get me to go to 10?
I'm keeping 8.

10 is gone...

Reba, does your computer look anything like this?
