In 1913, the 16th Amendment to the Constitution made the income tax a permanent fixture in the U.S. tax system

I know i am old but that was even before my Mom was born... Nope i never voted for income taxes

That is the truth
LOL Why do you suppose Drew is still pretending anyone is saying there should be no tax?

You are mistaken .:toofunny

Or ,more likely a fellow traveler.
How about posting something useful in this thread, like proving Drew is using circular reasoning. If you can't, then please don't bother posting. Your pointless little jabs are tiresome and can be taken as trolling.

drew the irs was put in place to FUND world war one if i recall history correctly. the earlier days the govt being small, used levies to do what it needed and left the rest to the states. while that isnt possible today completely, but its preferred as control of the 'where" my taxes are going.

that is the whole problem.

social security is failing because the politicians steal from it to fund what they want so that 'taxes' wont be raised. that is why i dont want to give more to the govt for social causes. they mismanage it for one and the other reasons i have stated elsewhere.

drew, i work for the govt, if i use something from work to do a job, its owned by the taxpayers under that municapility. but many workers in other departments break equipment that they work with all the time. some of them do the same job on the side(mow lawns) yet they dont have the problem of breaking of thier stuff.:bigfrown

my department doesnt, now then i often wonder what level of that "thinking and stewardship' happens in the state and federal level.:o a bunch.

drew,. change citizenship and then talk, you dont know how govt here works on laws. we may vote them in but they can do what they want for the most part as they know we cant follow every little law that is passed. its impossible and time consuming.

abortion is the prime example. for years the right and those pro-life dems tried to stop it or reduce it yet here it is. some pro-family dems and republicans are out of office.

voted out by the secular MAJORITY.:nono2

i will bow out as that was uncalled for.i may not agree with drew or free all the time but i wont insult them.:bigfrown:grumpy

Free?? Dont you care to what you said?

Why not?

I have had it with you.

You are on permanent "ignore". Like Hitch.

Have a nice life - I hope you learn to become a kinder, gentler person.

I only wish I had the ability to ensure that I do not have to be exposed to your hateful spite when other people choose to quote your material.
hmmmmm

Jason,

IRS was created in the Civil War to help with the influx of money because of the War Tax that helped pay for the Union.

Drew,

I highly suggest you get off your pseudo-soapbox with this "no rudeness" garbage. I've been reading the last three pages and some of your remarks are highly inflammatory. Backhanded remarks are still rude... And don't assume, it makes a you know what out of you... well just you in this case. And Drew, in accordance with the ToS, which you slap in the faces of others, you're not allowed to publicly speak about who is on your ignore list, as you just did with Hitch.

Lord,

I didn't see any circular logic, though I do agree Drew's posts have been nothing but fallacy after fallacy, and in this regard it's kind of like a circle, or else a very long line of fallacies.

---

It's my assessment that everyone ought to just leave Drew and his liberal inclinations alone. He's enjoying this ever so much. The best course of action is to just stop posting in here. Frankly it's gotten rather out of hand. A staff'er ought to just close the thread down.

Just something to chew on for you, Drew, as this is the last thing I shall post in response to you here:

You are lobbying for the ideas and ideals of the most secular political ideology I've ever seen. I have no doubt that you get your ideas from crazy secular leftists. Perhaps you ought to consider where your ideas are "borrowed" from before you adopt them as your own view.

And lastly, the Republican party in the United States has originally called the "Christian Party" [/truestory]

If Jesus were a democrat (believed in organized anarchy and everybody has a say -- not that God has any say at all) or if he were a Republican and believed that we need to vote in educated to lead us poor folk - I'd have to leave the church. The discussion had turned into a political foo-fo-rah.

I believe that He (Jesus) and only He has seen the Father and that He alone is King. There is no need for any but Jesus upon whose very name and the authority therein our beliefs are founded, to govern and rule. Man's attempts to govern himself (apart from consideration of God) are doomed. Jesus taught things that are diametrically opposed to political ambition -- those who are to rule must become servants. There is no special privileged class. We are to eschew evil and deny ourselves, to be lawful citizens of the authorities we are subjected to (by nature of where we were born) and consider God in all things.

Christians must first and foremost follow Jesus Christ who showed us the heart of His Father, our God. Republican vs. Democrat? That's not a biblical issue and has no bearing on Christianity. If we are born in a situation (slavery) we are to continue and abide in it but should the ability to be free present itself, then take it. Same for all authority set by God over us while we await the return of our King. We are citizens of heaven first. During the short time we dwell in our corrupted bodies and while we wait for the return of the king of our hearts, our Lord, we are subject to corrupt governments and picking one evil over another doesn't matter.

What is our command? To love one another. To fervently love the brethren. Following this means that we have no need for rules and regulations that would be placed over us to force us to do well and live according to man's righteousness.

It's my opinion that if we're thinking about Christ's message in political terms, we've missed His message.

God's miraculous gift of Grace given us through the life and ministry and crucifixion and resurrection of Christ is salvation, salvation by faith alone. We are called to emulate Christ's life of humility, and service, and sacrifice by loving our neighbor as ourself. That Christian calling has been the same for Americans under a democratic republic, citizens of French Napoleonic empire, citizens of the Soviet Union, citizens of the Roman empire, and citizens of every single other government we've ever lived under. Secular politics are not important; our Christian responsibilities - both as individuals and as part of a religious community - are.
I do not believe you have captured the totality of Jesus' message. Jesus was very much interested in "politics". You would place Him in the position of being "lord of all" except how the world is actually run.

There are many texts which place Jesus clearly in a position of "kingship" over this world and its institutions. So, in this sense, Jesus is most certainly a "political" figure. I am not denying that "salvation by faith" is important. But I believe that Jesus wants us to work to enshrine Kingdom of God principles in all spheres of human activity. Including government.

Here is a surprise! I agree He is King! He is King, yesterday, today and forever! The OT is full of politics.

Do we agree as to what the Kingdom of God is ?
: Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Frankly, I doubt if He'd even BOTHER with the U.S. political confusion, and our pathetic "Beauty contests" where we "elect" the same people with different names over and over again. He wasn't particularly interested in the "Governmental system" of his time, and I doubt that anything has changed.
