but I demand of you, and of
the whole world, that you show me a generic character — one that is accord-
ing to generally accepted principles of classification — by which to distin-
guish between Man and Ape.

Can you clarify what you think this means?

It means that anatomically, there are no essential differences between men and other members of the Hominidae. There are degrees of difference, but nothng unique. This was reinforced later when Huxley, in a debate with Owens, demonstrated that there was no structure in the human brain that is not also in the chimpanzee brain. Again, degrees of difference, not a difference in kind.

The essential difference is not in anatomy or genetics, but in our souls, and the ability to know good and evil.

I don't know what that means, and I don't think anyone else does, either. We can't detect any behaviors that have been proven to be unrelated to neural activity. Which doesn't mean that they don't exist. As far as genetics goes, most human behavior seems to be acquired, not inherited, so if you mean that, it's a certainty that human behavior is mostly not genetic. Intelligence, for example, seems to be largely learned.

As one very intelligent person remarked, a mind is not merely the epiphenomenon of a brain. That is, not merely; it might be that, but it's not entirely that, I believe. Suppose God chose to make a material being capable of being given a soul that would become an integral part of his being. Isn't that what we are?

If Man Evolved From Ape, Then Why Are There Still Apes?
Firstly, man did not evolve from modern apes. Man and modern apes share a common ancestor, which is extinct. However, the question comes from a flawed understanding of how evolution works. Evolution is not a straight line, where entire populations change into new species all at the same time. Often times, a small group breaks away from a population and begins to evolve independently of the source group. The source group does not need to go extinct, and is generally unaffected by the development of the smaller group. This is called "Allopatric Speciation," and it is just one of many ways that new species can evolve. There is nothing in evolutionary theory which states a source population must go extinct in order for new species to evolve.

Yes, exactly so. Well done. There are still apes because there are still environments in which apes can live and reproduce.

God, after all, is the One who did it. If it doesn't bother Him that we are evolved from other apes, then why should it bother us?

No, it makes a man out of Him. Or rather, He made a man out of Him. For God, assuming the being of any created thing is the point, not which created thing.

Humans aren't monkeys, BTW. We're apes.

The difference is that we are apes with immortal souls and the ability to know good and evil. It was in our knowing this, but being unable to be truly good, that estranged us from God. And that is why He became one of us, and gave us a way to salvation.

Let God be God, and do it His way.

It's just the way it is. You can take a vote to ban hailstorms, but it won't change anything.

The hominids are the members of the biological family Hominidae (the great apes), which includes humans, chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans.

This is merely an acknowledgement of the data,as Linnaeus admitted hundreds of years ago.

For that kind of thing, you'll have to complain the the Management.

God's word doesn't say about how that happened. The Bible isn't a science textbook. It's about God and man and our relationship. Nothing on how evolution works. Or how solid-state electronics works. Or many, many other things. A hundred years ago, people were claiming that the Bible said blacks were made to be the servants of others.

In fact, as late as the 1990s, there were creationists writing such garbage. But it's not in the Bible. They just added it to make it fit their own desires.

There's where your wrong, Gods word does tell us how it happened, Satan is the one that said "hath God said" and man believed him over his creator, ask Lewis he knows he started this thread..

If your new beliefs aren't to be found in Genesis, why should we believe them?

God says He used natural things to make life. But He doesn't say how. Anyone who claims otherwise, is making up his own stories.
