My mother watches shows about homicides and murders.

But you know what bothers me even more?

It bothers me when I wonder if all those murder victims are saved or lost. They get this terrible torture in the physical, and if they're not saved, they get eternal spiritual torture.

Pray for the salvation of murder victims, and victims of crimes.

And pray for criminals, for Paul was the chief of sinners, killing Christians himself.

I'm not Jesus. I'm not sure. But I see these commands and statements from scripture

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; - 1 Timothy 2:1

Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you. For our father in heaveb makes it to rain on the good and the evil. Be perfect as your father in heaven - Jesus

I take no pleasure in the death of them that die - Yahweh to Ezekiel

Father forgive them, for they know not what they do. - Jesus

God is willin that none should perish, but come to repentance.

I agree with praying for the salvation of victims of crimes, and for the people who are committing the crime in the first place. God is patient with all of us not willing that any of shall perish. So with that said and the other verses, i believe that God's desire is that all men would be saved!
There are times when i miss my children, and as i talk to the Father about it, i believe that He reminds me that, that is how He feels when just one of His children (saved or unsaved) are not in communion with Him. Or they have denied to recognize Him as Lord and Savior.
Jesus has asked all of us to go into all the world preaching the gospel (goodness of God). When He prayed for His followers it was for a specific reason. He knew what was coming, and that they would need strength to stay with God. I believe also that Jesus knew that His diciples were going to miss Him and really didn't understand fully what He was about to go through. But after He was raised from the dead, and appeared to them and told them to wait until the Spirit came on them in the book of acts, He knew that the Holy Spirit would give them strength. That changed a lot of things.

What do you think of the following words of Jesus?
Joh 17:9 . . I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

Hi Eugene,
I am not sure what you are looking for with this scripture, however you did ask, what do you think so I am going to tell you what I think..

When Jesus spoke those words they are quoted from the prayer He was praying over His diciples BEFORE He went to the cross. It was not long after that when they came for Him to begin the finish of our new beginning !!
I beleive it was a prayer to strengthen and encourage His diciples as the next chapter or events took place and to prepare them and mentally equip them to receive the upcoming Holy Spirit. I do not beleive it was ment to be taken as a command for us as to not pray for those who are lost.
Any way you asked ! ;)~
Have a wonderful week

Yose and others, I would certainly agree with the scripture you gave, but I've been of the opinion that the edification we receive from praying for others especially in the case of persecution is for our good and healing. God knows and doesn't need reminding of those who He has or has not called.

Possibly a stretch, but would anyone go before our Father requesting that no more ever die, or go to judgment again whom God knows and has not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world? Rev 17:8. I will admit that over the years I have prayed for many to come to the knowledge of our LORD especially in the case of spouses and children when asked to, but does that indeed change the mind of God? I admit I do not know all the answers and do pray when God seemingly puts someone on my heart, but in the other case I do not chant for the entire world to be saved; His word tells me it won't. :shrug
Blessings in Christ Jesus.

My parents watch that true crime stuff, too. I never thought about the salvation/damnation of the victims until you posted this, honestly. I just thought on the sheer nastiness of the human condition, especially with those crimes committed by "respectable" people.

Anyway...

...murder is a terrible, terrible thing. The human condition w/o Christ is such that anyone is capable of that, under certain circumstances. Sad statement on mankind...we're really just civilized animals without The Lord. The first verse that popped into my head is Romans 3:10 . "As the Scriptures say, "No one is righteous--not even one."
