The only way that someone can say they have married their "soulmate" is if God has directed us to that person. It is too easy to get out of a marriage because it did not work out and say "well you were not my soul mate".

This is why I resist the notion of soulmate. People define it as a relationship ordained by God and because of that the two must be perfectly suited and compatible for each other. I think that's just dreamy human hormone driven bunk. Hosea and Gomer were matched up by God and I'd hardly call them soulmates according to how we humans define that.

Being human with all it's hormone inspired joys and pleasures can be great, but to think God has purposely ordained a particular someone for each person for that purpose simply is not true, IMO.

I've been involved with enough of the hormone dreamy Cinderella driven bunk.I don't think I have ever been involved in a true God given relationship. One where the love is unconditional and genuine.I don't know if I would recognize it if I say it.

Oh, I think you would know it if you saw it. I believe it will be peaceable. That person will put you at ease.

I believe in soulmates but I am not nor have I ever been filled with human hormone /cinderella bunk.
You left out dreamy, lol. :lol

I've hoed a long hard road in the relationship department, and the conclusion I have come to is our human relationships with the opposite sex are built into us by virtue of our hormones. That's not a bad thing. God made it that way. And for a reason. But we need to understand that and stop attaching supernatural strings to relationships with the opposite sex that don't exist the way we think they do.

The Lord has very clearly taken me off the market.I am at peace with His plan for me.
I'd be more inclined to see it as you took you off the market as the Lord has been training you not to be controlled by the built in human desires for the opposite sex. That's a compliment.

Nothing wrong with those desires. The problem is they are like other good, normal human desires that God built into us--they take control of us. God did not intend that for mankind. That happens as a result of the fall.

I have only been involved with shallow,self centered,abusive #*%& :biggrin2 men.
And as you grow in character according to the fruit of the Spirit, you will recognize and appreciate men who also are growing up into the character of Christ according to the fruit of the Spirit. If anyone wants to believe in soulmates, that's how I'd define what it is, and how to find it. Throw in a fundamental physical/ biological attraction and you got the stuff of a good relationship IMO.

I think the best relationships are with someone who you have been best friends with. You have shared all your secrets and you really know how that person works. The good and the bad.Sometimes it is a brother and sister like relationship but I have seen it where for some reason after years they then start to look at each other differently."Hmmmm.....you will never believe this but I think I am in love with you".And then you pray that the other person feels the same way.

I think I see what's going on here as far as basic misconceptions on what soulmates are. The highest kind of S/M (also known variously as "twin flames" "twin souls" or "soul twins") has to do with how God manufactures human beings in the first place (since Adam, anyway). He actually creates two at a time, one male, and the other female, within the same entity. As with their cellular analog the zygote, He immediately splits them apart and they take their life on earth separately, usually never to even see one another.

However, in rare cases (and becoming less rare) these S/Ms do find each other, and may or may not experience a relationship with each other. Some people consider this the highest form of human romantic love. At any rate, it's not about God "pairing" people up like a cosmic matchmaker. It's also not about dreamy idealism, as S/M relationships can be the most turbulent relationships around (as you each know how to punch each other's buttons). Still, people not averse to a wild ride can be very attracted to this increasingly common phenomenon.

Anyways, before we summarily reject this popular New Age concept because it's, well, a popular New Age concept, I think it's important, as a minimum, to understand clearly what the theory states in the first place.
