...so, I was skimming over allenwynne's thread about Looking in the mirror. Insightful stuff. There's a couple posts about names and the importance people attach to them...

...reminds me of my stint at Teen Challenge (Pentecostal ministry, great program). One of the program managers there asked us "How do you feel when you hear your name? What do you think of? Shame? Humiliation?" Keep in mind; this is a program for deviants in need of Christ.

So, when you hear your name, how do you feel? I used to feel humiliated. I was a wretch and extremely low on the totem pole in my community. In fact, I was the laughing stock/village idiot of a small, southern town for quite some time. Personal sin and living in a sinful world will do that to some people.

Christ changed that for me! I mean, its not as if I jump for joy when I hear my name, but I'm getting over the shame and humiliation I used to feel at the mere sound of my name. Only Christ can do that for someone, you know? There are no second chances, no forgiveness for most people in the world.

Anyway....random questions: How did you feel when you heard your name before coming to Christ? And now that you're a Christian, how do you feel? How would you like to feel when you hear someone say your name?

I love it when my husband says my name. :) Not in a vain way, but I like to hear family say my name too.

I'm happy to hear of the way God works in your life, Christ_empowered. :)

I love the verse Isaiah 43.1: 'Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called thee by thy name...' It has a particular context, of course, but the personal link between the Redeemer and the believer is very precious.

Blessings.
