I would like to know what everyone's opinion is on what the worst false " christian" doctrine is. i have thought about this over the years, and changed my mind a few times on what I believe it is and why. Of course we know that ALL false doctrines are bad but some are more harmful then others, Some effect the life and faith of a believer more than others So what is your opinion of the worst false doctrine and WHY?

(I do realize that this may cause people to get into debates about specific doctrines here which could go in alllll kinds of ways, so maybe if two people disagree and want to hash it out another topic could be made at that point for that purpose otherwise this will splinter into why every doctrine in the world is wrong and how others beleive it right lol)

Also realise I said "Christian" doctrines. Those that you beleive are NOT truth but some in the christian church do. This is not to include stuff not ever considered christian like other religions and withcraft and paganism etc..... but those doctrines that are false that are found amoung our brethern.(this means no mormonism, no jw, no catholic stuff)

I will give mine a little later and why.

divine healing, that means that God will always heal you even though you arent meant to live forever.
for it is appointed for a men once to die then unto the judgement.

i do believe in divine healing at the cross, but that is something that my new home chruch and pastor must clarify in order for me to post on it.

thiestic evolution.

already discussing this.

This topic could get heated very quickly, just warning you.

I think the worst kinds of false doctrine are, as you said, those that some consider 'Christian' but aren't. They are more subtle.

I have always had a real big problem with '"Prosperity Gospel" which is taught in some big churches - namely Hillsong (as far as I know), that if you have true faith you will have a great life here on earth. From reading some passages in the Bible out of context, it's not too hard to get this message, but it is clearly out of sync with the Bible. I think some can also get too caught up with pastor's healing and the speaking in tongues. I"m not saying these lattter two are necessarily not Chrisitan, but they can be often twisted as such.

the baptism of the holy spirit or the gift of toungues?

both have been merchandized along with the others in this day and age

Okay, well I might change my mind if someone mentions something better, but when I read your OP, I immediately thought of Jason's response. Christians who spend their whole life under the delusion that God will heal every affliction without acknowledging that He could have a greater Purpose makes me nuts :screwloose This goes hand-in-hand with those who believe God will "give them that car" if their faith is strong enough. Besides being wrong, this places undo stress on those who don't have requests answered in agreement with their will. "Am I really a Christian?" His...not ours.

(I'm glad you narrowed this down to "Christian" beliefs. When I first read the title, I thought of JW's, Mormons, ...)

I'm not Catholic, but do consider them Christians (very much so), but feel their doctrines pale in comparison to the one I mentioned. It's all about "core doctrines". The other stuff is not essential.

Still, I don't believe any of these are "salvation issues", and different Christians with different beliefs are part of the Body of Christ!

Yes this could get heated fast, which is why i requested that if two who dont agree want to discuss further they could make another topic on it. :) for example I believe jasons most hated LOL and he knows that but this isnt the place for us to again go after that.

I also agree prosperity gospel is a BIG problem, it is designed it seems to be a trap for those who just want to love their flesh and this world.

But what i truly believe to be the worst false doctrine is: dispensationalism.

I picked that one because it is an overall doctrine that encompasses literally every single area of scriture and christian life, Where many false doctrines are out there, they often are singular, as in people may believe ALOT of truth and have one area wrong. But i beleive this one is one that causes peoples who mindset and reading of the scriptures to be based soley on doctrines of men, so that often they cannot see the word of God at all anymore, they can only see what they have been told must be and they have to work to fit everything into that idea. It is also a system that causes everything to be built upon it so that to fix the error - everything one has been taught and has built aobve the foundation of Christ crucified must be torn down and replaced with truth because it is all a wood hay and stubble building. It encompasses both doctrine and prophesy. It causes many false gospels actually. While the person may have the right gospel for themselves, they beleive also in other gospels and ways of salvation at the same time for people other than themselves.- It also causes walls that Jesus literally died to break down, to be built back up again and takes promises away from Gods people so that it literally seeks to undo the work of Christ, and cut the Lords work shorter then He promised in many ways.

Etc........

False doctrine, I could go on for a long time on this one but will try and keep it simple, I believe the new age of church teaching that you really don't need Jesus just so long as you feel good about yourself. I see more and more of this type of teaching. "Joel osteen" is just one that comes to mind.. Just my two cents

Faith healing

Vow of Faith

speaking in tongues

Demons being the cause of everything. Demons of stealing, alcoholism, gambling etc.)

People suffering eternal torture in hell

God causes earthquakes/weather

Blood or virginity have magic powers

God is a physical male that lives in outer space.

:) I guess I'm going to throw the first log on the fire. My worst false doctrine is that hell is not eternal.

Westtexas

Do you think hell is eternal suffering and torment?

pretty sure 3 of happies are scriptural :)

i dunno what a " vow of faith" is?

but there is some gooood ones being posted here, i agree that the new age don tneed jesus stuff is terrible and osas has a few times in the past been my #1 it runs real close to 1 for me but isnt.

I thought the "all roads lead to heaven", ehem...happyjoy...way, was included in the "not Christian" category. Wait...Happyjoy doesn't believe in Heaven.

Seriously, the all roads routine is not Christian. If we're focusing on doctrinal issues that within Christendom, it shouldn't include that stuff.
